I'm aware my death was very stupid this time around; its purely down to negligence and overconfidence (which I was still riding after defeating Cybie).
This made me laugh; because, as one of my players demonstrated to me yesterday, Miniguns do work with dual-wielding in my Anime RPG, Aniventure. Just have 70 Prowess, take Pistol Melee ('dual wield handguns') and Purveyor of Overkill ('treat any gun as if it were a handgun') and you're sorted. :D

I want this.

No. I need this.

It's never really a good idea to dump the nuclear plasma rifle.

Even if you aren't built for it, it's still four completely free plasma bursts.

I really wish I had gone Marine instead of Scout.

Why?

It's possibly worth noting that you'll occasionally be able to straight-up gib enemies, and also (I think) vampyre will trigger when you kill things that raise.

I'd recommend bru3 over ber if you're having trouble surviving. Berserker tends to trigger either a.) when you're in trouble or b.) when you get a lucky group of something charging through a door at you one after another. Bru3, on the other hand, is always active, a significant boost, and will make Berserker more powerful when you do get it.

It's already well-known that nukes clear a level and invulnerability globes prevent you from dying.

Nevertheless, I think this topic brings up something important. Might it be time to suggest that special levels ('>') can't be nuked?

(which is silly in my opinion, as this means the challenge is less about skill and more about luck)

How is knowing where the exit is and taking the path of least resistance every floor 'skill'?

Skill in games where stair sense is blocked is defined as stretching your luck as far as you can.

Too easy to designate a hauler to drag a caged Baron to a magma river for dumping.

I think 2dev mentioned in IRC that he had mAC by the hydra queen...

Earlier difficulties have you struggling with fewer traits as it gets harder, whereas later difficulties might have harder beginnings, but then you have really early masters propelling you past certain breakpoints. Just like the regular game, I suppose.

A shotgun that shoots using energy doesn't feel wrong, but one whose batteries are rechargeable does?

I don't really see a problem with this. Would it be unbalancing or uninteresting to revoke the shotgun's odd-one-out status here and add a recharging exotic?

The berserker loadout does work pretty well... especially as you don't have to bother with it once you escape the first room, which is hardly a problem. The two points of armor and vastly superior healing make an enormous difference. As Hell's Keep is now, the shotgun pack is just worthless, and the 'standard' is probably only best if you're going pistol. But hey, who knows, YMMV.

Several basements seem to be rewards for finding an invulnerability near the stairs or an obscenely early BFG. Antenora leaps immediately to mind; it just doesn't compare to, say, Doomtrain, Fool's Tomb, or even Echoes of Babylon. Hellfire Furnace, Crossroads, and Warp Core are all almost as bad.

I'm managing to do all right with Int->mBM, but I don't know how well Acheron would have gone.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I probably should have double-checked my armor and not hoped to get mBM right away, but still. The last time I went into Antenora - on HNTR - I barely survived... as a Marine... with a firestorm hyperblaster... and a five-step-old invul.

I'm pretty stingy with plasma cells.

And I think I'm hoarding when I have 250 on-hand...

Ammo that isn't being used is useless. The more you use it, the more spaces you open up for more ammo or other supplies. The less you use it, the more trouble you might have with enemies, the fewer health packs you might save, the fewer useful things you might be able to carry on...

You probably should have saved the second onyx pack for something else... the onyx blue might be slightly worse in the Lair, if not even with red protection-wise, though it is a little faster.

I get the feeling the following happens if you shoot at a monster that happens to move:

a.) You wind up hitting, and since everything updates simultaneously, the bullet flies towards where the monster is now.
b.) You missed, so it follows the initial path.

A. As far as I know, this is Something For DoomRL2. DoomRL's 'thing' is that its levels are one screen big.

B. More empty space would be a step backwards for enabling melee builds and reduce the cover available to everyone else.
Being an interesting, well-balanced change or addition tends to take precedent over being Doom-ish.

C. Crawl also takes longer than DoomRL. Unless you're running Ao100, DoomRL games aren't really meant to take days to finish.

D. Bronze Medals are the noob medals. Practice makes perfect, or at least adequate.

I don't want to completely remove the strategic concerns, though.

Maybe a Doomguy trailing blood (or splashing around in water, for that matter) should be easier to track or notice?

Ander Hammer, you should read descrtiption of the entire "gauntlet", and find out it includes HNTR/HMP/UV plays throughout every challenge. So, in case of a said game got ruined to a blackout at N! somewhere, the unfortunate player will be able to restart from last UV challenge, without taking HNTR/HMP/UV first.

Sorry, I didn't notice the part where 'you cannot save' in Angel of Gauntlet post.
