Title: A little help with n! Ao100
Post by: Klear on May 03, 2013, 17:38
Here's the situation: I'm on stairs to level 23 in Ao100 on N!. I won't be able to play until tomorrow evening. I'm playing ammochain, and my primary weapon at this time is a further unmoddable hyperblaster. I decided to play it safe and assemble it ASAP, though in hindsight I should have waited for WK2. Anyway, I'll probably run into enough mods for another one soon enough.

In any case, I find its accuracy lacking, so I'm wondering what are my best options. I have a A1T1 plasma rifle ready to make into another one, but I'm considering just making it T3A1S1. What should I build? S-modded hyperblaster, A-modded hyperblaster or simple plasma rifle with as many mods as possible?

Thanks!

I'd recommend a burst cannon over a hyperblaster, with ammochain. The more rounds you get out per burst, the better, or at least that's what I found. I had a (to me) very impressive damage output with my F2N1S2 laser rifle - massive accuracy, 11 rounds per burst (with 2TH), and a regenerating ammo supply. I realize those mods aren't easy to get, of course, and it took me the better part of an AAo666 run to put that together.

T3A1S1 sounds like a pretty good combination, since the fire time reduction from the tech mods is very useful for getting off a lot of bursts before enemies can react. Still, I'd rather put it on a laser rifle then a plasma rifle, if you have the chance - especially if you're using rarer modpacks like S or F that might not show up again in an Ao100.

A nuclear plasma rifle is also a good option, since it means you can disregard looking for and carrying around ammunition, especially with a MAc build. A laser rifle with an N mod will give you 40 bursts in a row before you have to wait for it to recharge, but a nuclear plasma will still give 24, which is a pretty significant amount as well - it just may not be enough on Nightmare.

Speaking of Nightmare, I can barely get past the Phobos base on that setting, so take my input with a sizeable grain of salt. I just know what worked for me on my Ao100 games, and that may not be the best setup even for HNTR, much less N!.

Thanks for the input!

I think hyperblaster is a better option, since it fires two bursts in the time plasma rifle/burst cannon fires only one, and each benefits from triggerhappy.

So with TH2 and without further modifications, basic rifle gives you 8 shots per second, Burst cannon 10, and hyperblaster 10 as well, but it has the advantage of changing targets in case the first dies. Plus there's a difference of 6 accuracy. I don't play ammochain often so I'm a little worried about lack of EE. And once I get TH3, hyperblaster will come out ahead with the number of shots.

Using N mod on weapons is a waste with ammochain and n! IMO. Though I will probably slap it on a rocket launcher-type weapon if I get the chance.

As for laser rifles and such, that would be best, of course, but I haven't found one yet and I'm not comfortable waiting. I need all the advantages I can get as soon as possible to keep in the game. Right now, the game's gotten easier since I got the build going, but there's probably going to be at least one spike in difficulty before level 50.

While I agree that making a nanomanufacture item is a waste of ammochain, I don't feel like just the nanopack is. Then again, I always seem to have trouble running out of ammunition(I actually almost ran out of energy cells at one point on my AAo666 run, simply because I wasn't carrying enough due to relying on MAc, and I had quite a few levels in a row with no commandos, no arachnotrons, and no energy cells on the floor - though maybe that's less of a problem on N!)

If, however, playing without a nano-modded weapon is working for you, by all means use that extra mod slot for something more productive.

S1 Hyperblaster looks like one of the best choices to me too.
With it's increased accuracy and shorter bursts, hyperblaster looks better in terms of DPS and overall efficiency. It just wastes some more ammo, since you fire two burst instead of one in the same time.

As scavenger, I prefer using B3S2 nuclear plasma rifles, but since you're MAc, I'd toss about anything on a plasma/nucPlasma/laser rifle, except for B or P.
I'd probably have kept the N mod for one of those rifles, just for safety. I really hate lacking ammo, and Ao100 is THE challenge where you need to consider ammo management.

Burst crap have no precision, I don't think they are worth being assembled. For a MAc build, it lacks precision, and for another build... they waste to much ammo. 6 shots + TH is enough shots for me.
I don't think DPS increases by assembling such a weapon when you can mod it instead, but ammo waste, for sure, does.

Nano missile or napalm launcher can be great too. They don't nuke levels, but are quite fun already :p   and for a N! build, I think I'd have preferred them over a plasma weapon, for the gibbing.

S-hypeblaster is probably the best.
A1T3S1 plasma is pretty good too.
Assemble the one that looks cooler in your opinion.
Burst cannon on plasma rifle when you have MAc is quite bad.

Nano mod is best wasted on anti-grav boots or on making cool armor. MAc users have no problem killing things.

Thanks! I played on and found a nuclear plasma rifle, so I eventually went with it, AT3S. Seems to be the right choice - the game was pretty easy. I got to level 30-something and then... made a bad call concerning a nuke. I'll post a mortem tomorrow =(

Hey, I've done that!
