Veteran Diamond Badge Criteria: Fully win the game on Nightmare!
Elite Diamond Badge Criteria: Win standard Nightmare! with 90% kills

So I've only ever been able to complete Hells Arena on N! once, and that was when a pillar spawned next to the stairs in such a way that I could shotgun enemies onto the stairs and perma-killed them. That didn't happen this run. Neither did finding another rocket launcher, or anything stronger than a tactical shotgun by the time I got to the Anomaly. For those not in the know-how, on N!, the ambush in Anomaly is ran by (appropriately enough) nightmare versions of the regular crew. Not something you want to be attempting with only a shotgun by your side.

Still, I did get pretty lucky with plenty of spare armor and a screenful of medkits though, so maybe it'll work out, right?

Ohgodnonononononononononononononononononononononononononononononono.

So there I am, trapped in the corner of the starting room of Anomaly. Three nightmare demons tearing me a new asshole with many more on the way. Nightmare imps and cacodemons sniping me for massive damage from the door. Between gulping down medkits by the bucketful and having my armor shredded like paper while I'm still putting them on, I'm barely getting a chance to annoy them a little with my wee peashooter of a shotgun. Somewhere in the middle of getting torn into itty-bitty pieces, I delicately and carefully assemble an intricate nanofiber armor that won't get torn up like its ill-fated comrades (nanofiber = infinite durability for certain costs).

Almost entirely thanks to the help of cacodemon friendly fire though, I somehow survive until only one nightmare cacodemon's left. He's just sitting by the door, smoking me with fireball after fireball, like he's been happily doing since the start of this ordeal (I imagine he's got a huge shit-eating grin on his face or something). I'm all out of medkits and only have that one pitiful nanofiber armor left. Convinced that this is the end, I trade fire with him, knowing I should really be trying to get closer to take advantage of a shotgun's higher dps at close range, but not doing it for reasons likely related to just having my ass handed to me on a silver platter.

Until finally, and surprisingly, he actually falls to my long-range shotgun blasts. I can't believe it. I survived. One of the large health globes had stayed intact too, letting me fight the Bruiser Brothers will little worry. Still, I AM in pretty bad shape. No medkits. Super weak armor. The Bruisers got some hits in before dying, so I need a heal on top of that. My heart sinks a little when I find out I've rolled Deimos Lab. Still, there ARE a lot of crates in there, and crates DO spawn medkits...

Turns out going in was worth it after all, and not just for the medkits. In the weapons room was a Nuclear Plasma Rifle which soon became 1/2 of the crutch by which I would take on the rest of N!. There was also a rocket launcher (crucial for N! games as you all know), and a regular Plasma Rifle. By ammo-farming Commandos, I had plenty of energy cells to feed it. I also manage to not destroy both superglobes opening up the wall where they laid. Alright, fighting 2 N! Shamblers sucks plenty of ass, but the conditions are pretty good now. It's worth a shot. And shot them, I certainly did.

Amongst the spoils was an Onyx mod(!), and a freaking Tower Shield!!! ...assembly recipe (this was on a different file that I had started just to play N!, so I hadn't done anything about filling in my assemblies list). Still, onyx mod. The other 1/2 of my crutch. My armor problems were over.

It was relatively smooth sailing after that. Grabbed the backpack and used a homing phase device to escape the Containment Area. Ran the Abyssal Plains for exp (since it has plenty of healing, should be able to come out ahead). Grabbed a BFG in Spider's Lair (really glad this rolled instead of Halls of Runawayfromthelava), popped into Limbo for the Reaper Platinum badge, so on and so forth. Didn't even need the Lava Element thanks to a well-placed invincibility globe that lasted long enough for me to nuke both Mastermind and JC. And that was that.

I'd probably attribute most of the run's success to the onyx mod and the nuclear plasma rifle. Especially the plasma rifle, which I find to be far more useful for perma-killing enemies. It also helped that the special levels that spawned were mostly the 'easier' of the pairs. All in all, by far my most epic run yet.

Shottyman Diamond Badge Criteria: Complete Angel of Shotgunnery on N! with 80% kills
Daredevil Diamond Badge Criteria: Complete AoOC on Nightmare! with 80% kills
Shottyman Angelic Badge Criteria: Complete AoSh + AoOC on Nightmare! with 50% kills

There's actually a rather funny story behind this. At the time of this run, I was only after the Shottyman Diamond badge. Upon discovering that you can still win badges through Dual Angel challenges, I combined AoShotgunnery with AoOverConfidence, so that I didn't have to deal with Anomaly and Cybie using only shotguns. Plus, it makes it easier to reach the requisite kill ratio, since you give the game less of a chance to screw you over with level setups that are crappy for perma-killing monsters.

So after sentencing the Mastermind to death by plinking with a thousand shotgun shells, I was happy to see Shottyman Diamond Badge appear in my player database and went off on my merry way. Sometime later, I came back and checked and... wait, why do I have an Angelic badge? Did something glitch in my game? Shottyman Angelic Badge? Wait... whaaaaat? So I had no idea that the Dual Angel combination I had chosen JUST happened to also be the requirement for that particular Angelic badge. That was very cool.

(On a side-note, I also didn't see that I'd also nabbed the Daredevil Diamond Badge, since I thought the second challenge didn't count for badges. Later on, I fulfilled the requirements for that too, only to mysteriously not have it appear in my mortem. Then when I checked in a huffy fit, I found that I had already gotten it in this run. Still doesn't explain why I didn't get it in that one run, but I got it, so I'm not complaining.)

Anyways, I may be biased since I favor shotguns pretty heavily, but I think this is probably the easiest of the Angelic badges to pick up, assuming you're good at perma-killing enemies without corpse gibbing equipment. Thanks to the nice gear you start with, getting this one isn't too bad as long as you enter on a favorable level arrangement (one that makes gibbing with shotguns easier), and get a spawn group of sergeants (for their shotgun shell drops).

Destroyer Diamond Badge Criteria: Complete AoMC on N! with Untouchable Cross (Untouchable Cross requires finishing the game taking less than 50 damage overall.)

I originally wasn't going to bother with this, as I barely have the patience for damageless runs. Then someone on another forum clued me in that you could combine challenges and still win badges. This is especially great news because The Anomoly tends to be the greatest stone-wall to most of my N! games. What better than to skip both it and Cybie entirely with a combined OC run?

Thanks to dual challenges, this is probably one of the quickest and most painless diamond badge to pick up. Recommended for diamond hunters of all ages.

Centurial Diamond Badge Criteria: Complete Angel of 100 on Nightmare!

As usual, the beginning of N! is always the most difficult part. To compound that, I found a Nano mod pack early on, and had to decide whether to use it immediately for some nice armor, or save it and hope I don't die before I get to use it. I hadn't put anything into Finesse/Whizkid, and wouldn't for a long while yet. Suffice to say, it was burning a hole in my pocket for a lot of the trip down.

Fortunately, I found a Malek's Armor, which freed up my nano for use in a weapon. Even still, it wasn't until a little less than 40% of the way through did I finally collected enough Bulks to make a glorious infinite-ammo rocket launcher.

After that, it was a matter of blowing away anything and everything that came within five feet of me. It still took several hits to kill a lot of the tougher stuff, like Barons, Viles and whatnot. But it wasn't too hard to keep them away, and the explosive radius meant I had little to worry from crowds of weaker enemies.

Eventually, I started playing a fun game that starts with nabbing an Invincibility Globe. Once you do, start rocket jumping towards the stairs. Wall in the way? Blow it open with a rocket or ten. See a cluster of high level enemies? Rocket right into the middle of them, then blow them all to the four winds. Otherwise, just rocket jump to the stairs and keep moving, always keeping an eye out for more Invincibility Globes to keep that sweet invincibility going. It especially helped that powerups lasted double time on N!

The only times I sweated a little after that, was when I was up against Lava Elementals, which take no damage from rockets. If I had to do it again, I'd probably drop levels into Finesse and Whizkid earlier, and only taken 1 SoB, saving the rest for when I wasn't relying on shotguns. Much of my corpse-gibbing strategy revolves around luring weaker enemies into doorways, and it doesn't help when they die from my "shoot them from behind the door to get their attention" shotgun blast. Also probably would've been more careful about saving more power cells to handle Fire Elementals.
