I just tested it on the Corporal rank with Angel of Darkness challenge - completed it with a standard win - and for advancement to Lieutenant, the "win the game" condition was not greyed! So the problem indeed is that the game doesn't recognize won challenges as advancement conditions met.

I don't know if this is a bug or not, but it's seriously unfair! :-)

1) I have no problem with that - I plan to start all my score anew with next version anyway :-)
2) That's good.
3) I think that a filter, as suggested by Styro, would be OK (Select highscores by: [A]ll, [E]asy, [M]edium, [H]ard, {U}ltra, [N]ightmare...). On the other hand, a separate highscore table for Nightmare would do the trick, too ;-)
4) Now I know why some people here call you The Ultimate Evil... ;-)

Did you win a normal game on HMP, or was it a challenge mode? It may be possible that challenge games are ot counted in the "win on HMP" requirement, but I have no way to verify this now...

I agree that it's weird, everything that enters a teleporter by kicking... eh, being kicked into it, be it marine or demon, should be teleported.

Also, it's now possible to run into teleporters (by "," command) - I think it would be better to stop the running marine one square before the teleporter, just like with doors.

What about a "Defender of Hell" arena? In this challenge you would play a former commando (yes, the h) on a sigle level, and your goal would be to ward off the invasion of arrogant marines who think they can take on Hell itself. You would get exp and advance to higher levels, but instead of picking traits you would just get more health, improve in accuracy and damage. And of course, you can use the equipment dropped by fallen marines 8-)

That is more correct. You could also say, "You don't start with a gun." Either would be fine.

Would "You start with no weapon (at all)" be even better? :-)

BTW, my (English-Czech) dictionary says that "stairs take you" is indeed proper English.

EDIT: Is every stairs correct, then? There MUST be a proper adjective for something so plural as stairs...

On a not so different note: There is a "98 - victory.mid" music track packed with the game that I would expect to play whenever you win, as the winning text unfolds. However this track is not used, instead the game plays standard "bunny" track. Would it be possible to play "victory" track when you achieve any type of victory, and leave the "bunny" track for mortem and highscore only?

Angel of Mediocrity / Unremarkableness / whatever (name needs to be tweaked)

No special levels are generated at all. Ranking - Medium.

Other language bugs from Challenge games description. I'll write them down as they sould be:

1. Angel of Berserk:

* "You don't have a gun at the start" (I'm not entirely sure about this one, can a native speaker among you please confirm?)
* "...large medkit and Large Healing Globe work on you..." (instead of 'works') - I'd suggest putting this sentence into plural altogether: "large medkits and LHGlobes work on you"

2. Angel of Marksmanship:

* USE anything else than a pistol

3. Angel of Haste:

* Sentence "Each down stairs takes you..." doesn't look good. Would "Each stairs down take you" be better?

There's also a brutal typo on the initial screen - big, flashing red "Challange modes!" instead of Challenge modes. Though I suppose you know about that one already ;-)

As for the naming convention... I've always liked DoomRL most.
