Title: "Are you sure you want to leave this level?"
Post by: ParaSait on August 22, 2008, 09:23
You see, I just did a DoomRL run, and I wanted to aim for a 100% kills. I almost accomplished it, I had 99% (I skipped 4 enemies >=[).

I don't know where this happened, but this gave me the idea to request a feature to make an option in Doomrl.ini that says "Are you sure you want to leave this level? You didn't kill all enemies yet!" when trying to leave a level when you're not "Relatively Safe" Yet.

I don't dislike the idea, but I think the way it is now you're forced to keep your eyes open, keeping you much more aware. I like it that way.

I bet it was those 4 Cacos behind the wall in the Chained Court - I always missed those guys until I decided to blast all the walls out one day.

As to you're idea, I thought you could always tell by looking at the red/blue indicator at of the bottom corner of the screen.

Ooh of course, I remember now... stupid me X(
Normally I always kill them by blowing the wall with a rocket launcher, so I would only have to cross 2 lava spaces, but it was an AoMr game so...

Eh guys, you're reasons are simple! I had once played AoMr, killed not 100% enemies on level, got Berserk Pack to heal and accidently exited by a red exit. And it was to MORTUARY!!! On AoMr it is nearly impossible. This feature must be on every enter to special level, or stair on mortuary must be central.

I have the good habit to go to look mode when I'm berserk or invincible ;)
But it would indeed be less annoying if you could see the most important colors in Berserk or Invincible mode without having to press "l", move the cursor, read the text etc etc...

Maybe this is a good suggestion for the upcoming new version?

This reminds me.
There's no way to tell if a lava/acid square with something on it is acid/lava. If you look at the square, it just tells the item.
Has anyone else brought that up?

I did. This fool bug killed me when I had 10% hp, no meds and large + was lying on lava. I didn't notice the lave and GOT KILLED ON LVL 20!!!

As for telling if a square with an item has lava underneath, there is a way to tell albeit not a very convenient one.  If the square is outside of your line of sight, you will see either the lava or floor underneath (and not the item).  Of course, this isn't very helpful if you're being chased, or if you have the map power-up, but it can come in handy if you're exploring the level after killing all the enemies.

I agree there needs to be a way to tell.  Perhaps a job for the 'l'ook function?

Yeah I once had like 5% HP left and I saw a megasphere, I wanted to grab it but it seemed to have a lava square underneath it...

Yeah but that message only appears when all monsters are dead. However, other threats are still possible, like for example lava pools.

The fact: Kornel did good work - items don't spawn on lava. The only thing they could be on Lava is that you shot down
monster on lava or near. So megasphere couldn't be on lava.

Or levers.

Just because they don't spawn on lava doesn't mean they can't exist on lava. So... Yeah, it still needs to be added in.

That reminds me- in the Wall, the Lava Pits, and I'm not sure which other bonus levels, the level name doesn't turn blue/flash "You feel relatively safe now." on the message box.

I've had circumstances where I went down the wrong stairs before, because I forgot there were two on that level, and I usually remembered right after pressing the > button. A message such as this would be a... nice feature, if not a seriously important one.
