Tommy Jenkins
Tommy was an orphan: he never knew his parents, but was told his mum was a 'courtesan', and his pop a client. He grew up on the streets, never interested in staying in an orphanage. Tommy always figured he was too clever to get stuck in the system. He survived by being quick-fingered, silver-tongued, and ready for anything, or at least he liked to think he was. But people give kids some slack, and Tommy was starting to realize he wasn't really much of a kid anymore- if his count was right, he must be at least 15 years old by now. People were starting to take him seriously, and he wasn't sure he was ready for that.

Cunning 1
Nimble 2
Slick 2
Skills:
Stealth 1
Sleight of Hand 1
Lying 1
Persuasion 1
Athletics 1
(I'm really not sure what the differences between the traits are. I was going for less mean-spirited, so ruthless seemed less important, but if that's more of a mechanical thing than a reflection of the character's personality, I suppose it could apply. Also unsure if cunning or slick was the way to go, but I'm sure it'll be fine anyway. Hope this is enough to get started, lemme know if I missed anything.)

No, not entirely. Just a simple, generic fantasy one that people can use as a starting point for their own. Enough that people new to roleplaying have a sense of what's going on. The game is primarily aimed at people with some prior roleplaying experience, so the majority of players shouldn't have any problem adapting it to there own ends. I'd be glad for suggestions on how to rephrase my page to convey that to the 'snobbish' folks. ;)

But of course! Actually, the lack of story-related content is no accident (though, as you point out, the particular execution could use work). My group has always been very big on story, interactive worlds, characters with legacies, culture, all that good stuff. But every time I see an RPG that has a strong emphasis on a particular exotic setting, I think, "man, that would be aweful in any other setting. You'd have to change so much. Guess I'm forced to stick with this one." Which, I think, is a big part of why D&D was able to get big. It's got a setting, but is loose enough to allow DM's to translate it into almost any setting, especially fantasy ones. That's what we're going for here. Not an RPG setting, but a whole new RPG system, regardless of setting. Hope that clarifies!

I've got some other leads, too, so I think I can make it work. ;) As for telling you, well, I haven't been telling people much, 'cause I don't want them to get sick of waiting since it'll probably be several months before we launch. But on the other hand, I can't turn down that kind of enthusiasm!

My wife and I have been reading Piers Anthony's Mode series, and the virtual mode has merits for a rpg setting. Some minor changes (like the worlds flowing together instead of crossing realities every few feet) would make it work, and it would support every other possible combination of story elements. You could walk from fantasy sword-and-sorcery to high -tech space ccowboys, with different areas having their own laws of physics and magic. For instance, in the books, some kinds of magic don't work in some places (especially not in high tech worlds), and some types of technology don't work elsewere (usually in the high fantasy settings). I'd be worth looking up if you're unfamiliar with the books.

Looks like you're getting a lot better with lighting and use of perspectives. These last few are your best! It's getting down-right impressive recently.
