It happened more to me than I'd like to admit T_T
Dem freaking shotgunners lurking behind the corners...

And don't get me wrong. It's fine if napalm barrels still pack a punch. Hell, they're freaking napalm barrels exploding right in your face. But sudden instadeath at 100% HP or more (hey, if the explosion doesn't do it, the lava will) is maybe a little too harsh.

(a fun side note: I made a comic about this maddening phenomenon some time ago...)

Ouch. This would effectively disallow any serious builds at the start of the career, essentially forcing players to play masterless builds. The game is difficult enough as it is for newbies, and imposing such limitations would render the game nearly unwinnable by design for them.

And the Marksman badges example makes it even worse - such an example would force the player to win AoMr masterless to unlock master traits. Not exactly an easy task ...
Could always do it the other way around. Locking overused features instead of unlocking. But I digress...

On a sidenote: how on earth have you been able to complete AoOC before something easy like AoSh, AoMC, AoMr, AoLT, Ao100 or even AoB?
Tryharding the shizzle out the RNG? :P

It may be useful to say exactly when the game crashes (before mortem, after mortem, etc).

Um.  By Law of Large Numbers, as the number of dice and sides go up (xdy), the distribution tends towards a normal distribution with μ = xE[dy] ~ x (1+y)/2, and σ² = Var[xdy], with an abuse of notation.

So your question can be recast into a "simple" look up on the normal distribution.

The way to deal with bullet scarcity is to hamster it in the early part of the game when it's plentiful. Don't be afraid to carry around like 5-6 spare stacks.

Just make a barrel remember what type of floor tile it's standing on, restore when moving. That's how I'd do it...

(well, at least that's a quicker fix than changing the nature of a barrel :P)

A 3D FPS clone (utilizing ASCII graphics) of a roguelike (now with tiles graphics) based on a legendary 3D FPS.

This world really is a weird (and so much fun!) place. Can't wait to see the result of your combined efforts, guys :).
One day, I shall make DoomRL Arsenal - The Roguelike. Fuck yeah.
