Cybernetic Armor + Onyx pack is absolutely ridiculous. Other than that I spent a VERY LONG time in the Mortuary until I got it cleared (respawns on top of respawns). Well i actually needed it for the kill count so I think it went rather well.

I thought I would need at least a Butcher's Cleaver to get this badge, but when I saw a Berserk Pack right next to the entrance to Hell's Arena... Why not?
Berserk ran out just after the first wave, yet I managed to get a Berserk out of a demon to clear 2nd wave only using a small med-pack.
First Baron I'm forced to use a large medpack... I get a lucky Berserk and finish him off.
Second Baron, I use my second and last medpack but get no Berserk hits... I kill him with 2% hp left... Wooo!!!

The RNG decided to punish me with no medpacks so I died shortly after. Anyway, one of the hardest badges earned!

Uniques, advanced weapons and mods pretty much everywhere. If you're wondering what happened to the Necroarmour, it was an Arena Level with a Revenant/Vile pack on one side and Mancubus/Vile pack on the other, I tried fighting it out instead of cutting my losses and running away (phase device moved me 4 squares away as usual).

Discussion / Project idea - Tileset Front for DoomRL

I'm really not aware of how easy this would be to accomplish nor how far the recoded DoomRL v1 is. I'm asking opinions from the computer/programming wizards in the forum to see if this is worth investing time on.

The idea:
DoomRL has a graphical output consisting of a 80x25 ASCII; if we create a second party program capable of reading that ASCII output and apply a Tileset based on it, we'd be able to have some sort of a graphical interface.

What the program would need:
- The ability to read the ASCII output from DoomRL.exe
- The ability to pass input onto the game
- A graphical window covering enough room for a 80x25 Tileset. (This is very discussable) For a 16x16 Tileset this would make 1280x400.
- A fast enough refresh rate without hoarding the processor.

Specifics:
- A full text tileset (multicolor) for whenever the game is on the menus, etc.
- A second tileset with the graphics: all the characters capable of appearing on the play screen on all colors possible (including Berserk and Invulnerable)
- The condition to apply the second tileset would be on the output on the bottom line of the game (it always has common elements*). If that element is true, then lines 3 to 22 would use the alternative tileset.

After this is working (or not) There would be a lot of small extras which would be good to add.

I'd like to know if anyone finds any big issues with the idea and, better yet, if someone with programming skills could help starting this. If you can make the program work I'll supply all the tiles needed.

* The common elements on the play area i find easy to spot are:
- Line 24, Pos 1: "Health:"
- Line 25, Pos 62: "Phobos Base", "The Chained Court", etc.
Having different tilesets based on which level it is would be awesome later on but I'd already be happy if this worked with a single tileset.

Bug Reports / Invulnerability Globe on AoMs

While on Angel of Masochism Challenge, using an Invulnerability Globe will set your hp to 100%. This should not happen.

Here's an idea that i think would fit very well in DoomRL but would not only require a lot of work but also change the game a bit.

I've seen this in some other roguelike for purposes of projectile shooting but i'm not sure of which.
The concept is simple: allow moving while performing other actions.

Change shoot to reload/use med pack/swap weapon/whatever.

Checklist:
- Accuracy penalty.
- Checking for movement possibility? Still allow action without movement if there's something on the way.
- Keybind/action to stop moving costing no/little energy. ('5' comes to mind)
- Shoot first, then move. If it's a chainfire weapon, shoot half the bullets from starting position and half from ending position.
- Dodge will become much more important in the game, probably needing tweaking down.
- Getting knocked around stops your movement.

Issues:
- Energy cost = Maximum(move;<insert action here>)?
- How to handle large differences between move/action energy costs? (move cost 1,1; Dualgunner shooting cost 0,48 for example)
- Allow defining a movement direction using no/little energy?
- Small display showing if you're moving? Something like chainfire does now would work i think.
- Makes Shottyman/Reloader traits obsolete/less useful?

Well, I've been thinking about traits and i have a few suggestions:

- Merge Finesse and Son of a Gun:
Finesse -> -10/20/30% fire time / -20/40/60% for pistols
The effect is basically the same, so having them separated doesn't add much in my opinion. (See the benefit of Reloader (1) and how easy it is to acquire Whizkid before crying about the lost +3 damage)

- Merge Shottyman with Reloader.
Reloader (1) -> -20% reload time, in addition allows you to reload Pistols, Shotguns and Combat Shotguns with a move action
Reloader (2) -> -40% reload time, in addition allows you to reload Pistols, Shotguns, Combat Shotguns, Double Shotguns and Plasma Guns with a move action
Reloader (3) -> -60% reload time, in addition allows you to reload any weapon with a move action
Reloader is so weak noone take it unless they're going for a shotty game, this way it will be useful at any number of points invested (RL with Reloader (3) will be messy).

- Add shotgun to the melee traits
Brute -> +4/8/12 melee damage, +2/4/6 shotgun damage
Berserker - Chance to go berserk on melee hit, chance to go berserk on shotgun hit (only on a large hit)
Shotguns are a bit underpowered at the moment, a damage boost and berserking ability will make for a fun change and not overpowered i think. In my opinion shotguns and melee go well together as both ignore accuracy and require short range to be effective.

This will allow a bit more versatility in trait builds and also make for a much needed space on the trait list (it's getting real crowded)



Sorry about the wall of text now. I have a few suggestions about advanced traits but won't elaborate on them so the post doesn't turn too heavy:

Advanced traits (require 2 different basic traits, 1 point):
Juggler - requires Reloader 1, Hellrunner 1
Berserker - requires Brute 1, Hellrunner 1 - Chance to go berserk on melee hit, also small chance to go berserk on shotgun hit
Dualgunner - requires Finesse 1, Reloader 1
Intuition - requires Eagle eye 1, Ironman 1 - Shows lever function and powerup locations in map (same as Intuition 2)
Whizkid - requires Tough as Nails 1, Finesse 1 - Allows 3 mods on regular weapons and armor, allows 12 mods on advanced weapons (same as Whizkid 2)
Badass - requires Ironman 1, Tough as Nails 1
Triggerhappy - requires Son of a Bitch 1, Eagle eye 1
Knockout - requires Brute 1, Son of a Bitch 1 - Melee hits deal 400 energy damage(0,4 stun), Shotgun hits deal 400 energy damage but only if they cause knockback

Master traits (require 2 advanced traits, 1 point, blocks out all other master and advanced traits)
Master traits are in the beta but i won't talk about them here :P

 Before him 399 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
 368 of those were killed.
 6 of those were killed by something unknown.
 And 14 couldn't handle the stress and committed a stupid suicide.

 Some rumours though, say that the Cyberdemon was killed already!
 Is he immortal? 11 souls claim to have killed him...
 9 killed the bastard and survived.
 2 showed that it can outsmart hell itself.

Well i tried clearing everything until reaching Chained Courts, but wasn't really prepared to take on Arena although a AoMs has a good shot of clearing with the 200% heal midway.
After Chained Courts it's the usual i do in Nightmare mode, grab all the zerk packs, ignore the Barons and try to dive levels as fast as possible while zerking.
I found a Arachnotron cave and i corpse camped them until i had 10 stacks of plasma cells. I found 3!! homing devices and quite a few Invulnerability Globes so i can't say there was no luck involved.
I was Invulnerable AND zerking fighting the CyberDemon so no issues there.
