While finishing the preparations, Berak continues his conversation with Isirius.

- These two appeared to be the Winter King's followers and were perhaps ordered by the Winter King to wait here. The plan seemed be to have us give them the scepter so that they could take it to the Winter King, but since we were not too eager to give it to them, the barbarian felt that killing us would be easier than continuing with illusions and games, which he was not too fond of anyway.

After closing the door to the hallway, Berak turns to face Isirius and says:

- The ship claimed that it was sent by the Winter King. I don't see a reason for it to lie and I don't think that these two were skilled enough to create such a construct. I have indeed wandered why the Winter King would use such a roundabout method of retrieving the scepter. The only explanation that I can think of and makes sense is that the Winter Kings powers are limited right now and he is unable to use a more direct approach, instead using his reputation and the power to change the weather to achieve his goals. I expect that the scepter would increase his power and enable him to do more.

Berak moves closer to the fire and starts preparing for the ritual, waiting for Quill's and Gosok's approval.

Quote
If Quill and Gosok agree, cast the ritual, with:
Gosok: -1 surge
Quill: -4 surges
Berak: -2 surges
Isirius: +6 surges

While the others mull over whether they want to rest or donate some of their vitality, Berak examines the three closed doors. He assumes that there is probably nobody near the other side of the doors, since they would have come to help the barbarian and the gnome. He tries to carefully open each of the doors and take a look at what lies behind them, closing them afterwards.

Berak examines the resulting scene. Taking note that Isirius is looking a bit exhausted, he proposes to the others that they transfer some of their vitality to him. Also noting how Quill is eyeing the food, he says:

- There is no reason to believe that this food is safe to eat.

Turn light off.
Berak uses 2 healing surges.

Proposes to use the Comrades' Succor ritual to transfer healing surges to Isirius.

If the DM is OK with it then lets rest. There are ways around your lack of healing surges though.

in past you were also limited to 1 item daily power per day + 1 per milestone but that limitation got removed

Does that mean that a character with 2 magic items with daily powers used to be able to only use one of these powers before reaching a milestone? And that limitation was present only in some earlier version of 4E rules?

Berak puts more effort into his attack, intending to break the barbarian completely. The gem embedded in Berak's chest suddenly shines brightly, dazzling the barbarian.

Quote
Standard: Mind Thrust (A2) at the barbarian
   Attack: 1d20+9+1=27 (vs Will)
   Damage: 2d10+9+2=24 (psychic)
On hit: -4 to all target's defenses until EoNT
Free: Turn on light to full brightness
Minor: Stay Back
Effect: Bortek gets -2 to attack rolls until EoNT

Berak thrusts into Bortek's consciousness, dismantling his mind.

Mind Thrust at Bortek

   Damage: 1d10+9=14 (psychic)

Sure. I can move to G8. Just be sure to mark the bastard. I don't really want to take a hit from this guy.

I wouldn't put it past this creizy basterd to attack you anyway or even take opportunity attacks to charge at the squishies. Also, if you look at turn 1, you will notice that he used some kind of area attack. If I understand the rules correctly, that would not trigger the Combat Challenge if Quill is included among the targets.

[EDIT] Now that I think about it, area attacks should trigger attacks of opportunity, but Bortek did not, so there is probably something else going on there. Well, be careful anyway.

Berak lets the mote of lightning explode, catching the barbarian in the blast. He then lays down another mote, slowing Bortek once again, intending to give the others a chance to rest.

Quote
No Action: Static Mote Attack:
   Attack: 1d20+8=15 (vs Ref)
   Damage: 1d6+4=6 (lightning)
Standard: Conjure a Static Mote at A12

Sensing that Bortek is getting ready to charge at them, Berak conjures a mote of roiling lightning in front of the barbarian, slowing him down.
Quote
Conjure a Static Mote at B12
Effect: Any creature that starts its turn adjacent to the mote is slowed until the end of its turn. Berak can explode the mote at the start of his turn.
Move to E3

Not that. I meant that in my version, the daily on the Orb of Inevitable Continuance says:
Quote
One of your powers that is due to end at the end of this turn instead lasts until the end of your next turn.

It does not specify that it has to be a power I originally cast using this orb, so the lack of the implement keyword should not matter. (At least as far as I understand the rules.)

Wouldn't work actually since EEotV doesn't have an Implement keyword and thus gains no benefits from orb equipped.

Ah, perhaps it was changed then. Right now I'm on the non-CBLoader version of CB and the info might be outdated. (can't get CBLoader working with this particular computer)

Bortek delays until after Berak.

Goshdarn, that was clever. :P

*puts the Orb of Inevitable Continuance on his shopping list*

Guysh, I hope you are ready, because Bortek is coming. I'll slow him down for a turn. Better get rid of that wolf fast.

Don't think I killed it. And I wouldn't (officially) know until after my turn, even if I'm now attacking something that's already dead.... *ponders*

Of course, if either Gosok or myself did kill the wolf, chances are I would have noticed and changed my course of action...

Well, my numbers might be bit off, but they are probably close:

Most pessimistic estimate of the wolf's HP based on the attack that bloodied it = 77
The amount of damage we have dealt to it = 75

This assumes that Marek attacked Dire Wolf 1 instead of Dire Wolf 2 (like is written in his IC post).
