Requests For Features / Easy picking up of ammo
« on: December 13, 2006, 23:01 »
I find akward the default controls and behavior for picking up ammo (g), and especially for unloading weapons lying on the ground (U) to get their ammo.

I always end up remapping the U key to t, that way at least the keys (g and t) to pick up stuff are together.

My suggestions:
1- Once you already have a weapon and it is fully loaded, the game should assume you just want the ammo if you issue a get (g) command over a similar weapon's square. If you really want a second weapon, you can always press g again - personally I never carry around two of the same weapon.
Unless we get to dual-wield pistols (advanced trait) in a future version? Or maybe a knife in one hand, a pistol in the other...

2-If you run over some ammo it should just auto-pickup (I suppose it takes time, so there should be no enemies in sight). But it should do that only if there's a slot in your inventory that's being used for a kind of ammo, but is not full. This way you still decide what to put in each inventory slot.

Discussion / I really like this game
« on: November 03, 2005, 09:30 »
Hi, I just tried Doom Roguelike. Adding the sound effects and music is a genius' idea, it really creates the perfect mood. It's the first Roguelike that I play that has sound, and it's very successful.

I find that the interface for aiming and shooting is well designed, except that maybe you could add a key to cycle targets, as an alternate to moving the "crosshair" with the arrow keys.

Also, instead of picking up 50 pistols and having them in the inventory, it would be nice if, once you have a weapon, you just pick up the ammo from weapons of the same kind, and automatically discard/destroy the weapon itself.

Finally, what about dual-weild? At least for pistols! It would allow you to fire twice, but with less precision. Maybe it could allow you to pick a target, fire, and then pick a second target and fire before the ennemies react.

Really high-level characters, or maybe one with a special trait, could be able to have heavier weapons in dual-weild with a pistol.
