Nightmare! / [N!|AoSH+AoOC|85%|YAVP] Came back after a few years and snagged my first Angelic
« on: September 18, 2024, 13:13 »
After ~7-8 hours of grinding and 2 good attempts that I threw like an idiot, I finally got Shottyman Angelic!
I've been playing this game on and off for like ten years (since I was in middle school), and have been steadily improving with time, but I've always avoided Nightmare! because I like to take my time and see that beautiful 100% at the end of the game. Yesterday though, I decided it was about damn time that I give it a shot, and what better way to do that than to mix it with a little overconfidence and shotgunnery? In truth, this run is the product of a shamelessly stolen strategy (thanks Icy!) and a lucky invulnerability and sniper pack, but it was a ton of fun anyway, and I think I've gotten dramatically better at the game in the process, whether the enemies are respawning or otherwise. For the record, this is on 0.9.9.7, as I haven't updated yet.

General Discussion / Tips for a rookie (but DoomRL veteran)
« on: September 19, 2022, 10:12 »
Pretty much what it says in the title. I recently picked up DoomRL again and started a new save file and it's been a blast. However, after a particularly long and grindy hunt for a diamond badge left me successful but burnt out, I grabbed Jupiter Hell to spice things up in the meantime. I say this to clarify that I am familiar with roguelike fundamentals, but am wondering about the more specific quirks that JH has (enemies, builds, special levels, etc.) and am hoping someone can explain them in a way that relates them to similar features in DRL (if that makes sense).

Discussion / Re: How Dead is this Game?

Yeah, I appreciate the response. The game's development is absolutely dead, I was more wondering about the community. I hope people like Tormuse prevail in their endless quest for 100%, It would be a damn shame otherwise.

Discussion / How Dead is this Game?
« on: February 03, 2021, 07:40 »
So, I've been playing this since like 2012 casually on and off and it's been a really good time; it breaks my heart to come on here and see that the game seems to have died. I mean I'm not surprised, given its age and the circumstances surrounding its development it realistically should have died years ago, but there is still something disappointing about the fact that we'll probably never complete every medal and challenge. Anyways, I suppose my question is even if the forums aren't active anymore, how many of you guys still play the game? Are you playing casually or still going for those insane achievements? Personally I never grinded too hard or got too good, and my proudest achievement is just beating the game on UV.
