So I noticed when you kill the cyberdemon by sacrificing youself, aka suicidal Thermie explosion, the game recounts this every mortem by saying "1 sacrificed itself for the greater good" or somesuch. This seems grammatically awkward since the line is supposed to be an extension of "Is he immortal? X souls claimed to have killed him".
Now, I know it's supposed to be referring to the player, and the game can't know the gender of who's playing, but this just seems like a heavy-handed way of dealing with that. I'd appreciate it if the mortem display just went by the gender of the player character, which I'm presuming is male, and just change "It" to "Him".
What do you guys think?

Not sure about the gender of the player character -- I think it was never really explicit, though implicitly we call the PC "doomguy". I wouldn't mind using the masculine form of "him", but for the same amount of space, "him/her" still works and is probably a little less awkward.

Have you heard the scream when you die? I would be pretty scared if a woman made that noise.

Angel of Estrogen (http://forum.chaosforge.org/index.php/topic,1168.msg22850.html#msg22850) =D

I hate to do this, but he has to be a guy, becuase he looks like one in Doom.
-
Looks can be deceiving, can it not?
-
I believe the Mortem refers to brave souls venturing into Phobos - and souls are associated with an "It", rather than a "Him" or "Her". The "Is he immortal?" bit refers to the Cyberdemon, rather than the player.

...Let's not do this.
Seriously. There were no female shooter leads in the early 90's. None.

Samus Aran doesn't count, then?

I don't know, when was Metrod 2 released? Because Super Metroid was probably '94, so, maybe.
Wait. There wern't any Doom Clones with female leads, AFAIK, so...

Rise of the Triad? Two out of five possible characters were female.

Metroid 2 is 1992, I think. The original is '89 if I remember right.

Like I said, I didn't know.
But, pshh! No one played RotT, right?
/joke
And the reason I went to Doom clones, is because before Doom, Wolfenstein was like the only other game of the type (there was some others probably, but I don't know) For a long time, FPS's were called Doom clones.(I bet you guys already knew that, though)
Long story short. Doomguy is a Male Human. Unless Angel of Estrogen (which I think is a fun idea) is implemented, It will always be Doomguy, Male Human UAC Marine.
