Bug Reports / [0.9.9.4] technician/AoLT gets no shell box

playing a technician on AoLT, you do not get a shell box.  I expect this is because you have 6 starting items with the tech mod, and the shell box is the last.  Possible solutions:
a) AoLT does not get 24x 10mm ammo
b) one of the ammoboxes becomes the 'challenge-specific item' by the stairs
c) an ammobox (probably 10mm) starts equipped in AoLT

This run was going quite well.  I really like the scout for this challenge, as: a) stair sight prevents the need to exhaustively search on N!; b) Intuition is available quickly and without wasted AoMC Eagle Eye.  Nothing too special in the early game - didn't find a rocket launcher for a long time. 

I decided to attempt the Armory and was greatly aided by two invulnerability globes nearby.  I tried to move for the right side ASAP to clear the tougher stuff.  The revenants in the middle didn't want to be corner shot and destroyed the whole area - no mods!  fortunately baron/imps destroyed the corpses.  cacodemons were being pretty annoying about knocking me back while I charged with the chainsaw, but eventually got most of that side before invulns wore off.  I let an imp shoot me a bit to clear the remaining stuff there.  then back to the start, where the narrow corridor (for corpse-on-corpse) + giftdropping onto doors let me kill the rest.  the final imp was then lured over and killed in a doorway.  shambler was plasma'd, but he revived quite quickly as I'd spent a ton of time wandering around the level.  he mostly left me alone while I collected FAB mods, the only surviving rewards other than ammo.

the next level had a huuuuge pile of guys guarding a mysterious unique mod (tracking map saw it).  I very carefully got them without allowing barrels to explode and destroy it ... as I type this I just remembered it was indestructible as a unique :).  The Onyx pack went onto my armor, and a power mod on the same level made me quite tempted to make plate.  -70% move is bad, but -8 damage is nice and I hadn't made it before.  Hellrunner compensated for my last stupidly heavy/slow armor, so why not?

a nuke, nice.  arachnotron cave, no problem - the plasma gun kills them in one blast.  Halls of Carnage? no thanks, I'm too slow to be racing lava.  slowly advance towards the stairs and items, see a baron.  swap to plasma, fire, oops: 7 * (9 - 2/2) = 56 < 60, so he's alive.  (Why did I keep that spare rifle?!) He fires, destroying a wall, so I now see a revenant and vile, revenant shoots.  I am now at 40% health, and think for around 12 minutes.  rocketjump? not with -90% knockback.  rocket blast? not since they're all in different directions.  hmm, that revenant might actually be in my cateye radius, not normal LOS.  so I shoot the baron.  revenant fires, I'm at 18% - yay plate!  but then I fail to realize that plate armor means I can medpack midcombat, even in AoMC, without immediately getting shot back down to the same health.  I move away, but they both follow and fire.  GG.  I now also see another option - switch to any other weapon, then to plasma, before shooting the baron - to get my F-plasma, which would let me fire at either of the remaining enemies and hope the other can't/won't shoot twice before I get my next action.

Sorry for the double post, but I'm so happy to have gotten this one (first UV challenge, AoMC doesn't count).  I don't have a lot of new comments, it was quite similar to my previous YASD.

I tried the Wall with 2 phases, didn't get through, and a hellwave pack from the right does not work.  Explosions used to travel left to right, if that's still the case you might be able to get back that way.  Since that left YAAM out of reach I decided to get Explorer, and killed everything outside the special levels.  Though even when not being a total bonehead, the Vaults is hard - revenant speed and knockback can make it hard to see the viles.

Nanofiber Cybernetic is very nice, as long as you also have 1+ HR and tactical boots.  I imagine Nanofiber skin Cybernetic is just like cheating - I waited a few levels before assembling nanofiber, just in case.  That said, I imagine it was part of the reason the revenants were hard to approach :)

Oh why must I get overconfident!  previous bests at UV/AoMr: level 13, level 4, a ton of 2s/3s.

Assemblies: for the non-MGK pistolier, speedloader is essential.  high-power in the offhand is decent, you get 3 powerful blasts and then rapid-fire to finish stuff off.  I found a firestorm pack, so I wanted to try out the storm bolter.  It's pretty crazy, but I'm not sure it was worth the traits, especially as a 2nd Eagle Eye should be used - and probably not dualgunner.  Though Finesse isn't wasted. actually, Juggler instead of DG would suit it very well, even in AoMr.

Arena: I think I was blessed with a berserk pack near the entrance.
Chained Court: rush the master, try to get barons/captains to hit him a bit also.  use the staff to clear the rabble.  one medpack is needed during, and probably one afterwards.
Armory: Pistols are certainly better than shotguns here for everything, and higher difficulty might be easier than lower for the boss - the extra experience gives you more armor piercing.  I reached level 8 for my final SoB in the level.
Hellgate:  I opened with a shockwave pack, then I was at 50% health.  phase device took me face to face with a bruiser! gave him a magazine, then careful stepping around his 'cage' worked ok.  I think I took around a medpack worth of pummeling first, and another one going back for the first wave.  In retrospect, I should have tried the pack standing near the viles' chambers instead of after opening the whole ambush.
I decided against City of Skulls, since I wasn't sure on ammo supplies, and the opening wave takes a lot of medpacks/staves without shotguns/berserker.
The Vaults:  This might have been ok if I didn't screw it up.  used a homing phase/invuln globe to enter safely, and took out 3 viles quickly.  caught up to the 4th soon.  The center vault was kind of awful.  I didn't seem to be seeing the viles, so I tried moving around the bottom... yeah.  pinned there by revs a bunch, took 5 of my 6 medpacks.  the bottom does give some access to push them into lava though.  almost ctrl-c'ed when I leveled up, thought I had gotten killed. once I could move around to the right it was better, but it did take my last medpack. Grammaton was a nice reward, but I had already committed to trying the storm bolter.
The next couple of levels were a bit nerve-wracking, but I was able to grab some medpacks and powerups to stay healthy.
A pain elemental cave took a lot of bullets, but wasn't that tough.  probably fortunate self/enemy locations, I could kill a bunch in the opening seconds and the rest were on one side.  The UAC star(silver) is from here.

My destiny level started out seeing a party.  A bunch of hot kegs, and La-BAMBA was playing.  using the lava barrels revealed a vile, so I got out of sight of the mancubus and pummeled the vile with the storm bolter, taking fire from everything.  use a medpack, clean up the group, but mancubus has wandered off.  I go around the building on the other side, find another vile, blast it, getting hit.  don't use a medpack, find the mancubus, get one-shotted.  I even had a small one, no excuse to not use...

At least I'm an arch-vile now - and this challenge looks possible!

I've been wanting to fix this medal for a while (I had Masochist Gold in 0.991, when it was just 'win AoMs').  I've had many good attempts, but I tend to get overconfident/reckless right after I level up.  This leads to stupid situations like asking on IRC for help calculating a monster's HP so I can figure out which weapon is most likely to kill it to level up, then being back at 5% HP 99% XP the next level.

The two bulk mods in a vault on level 2 seemed like they would make a fine gatling gun.  I'm very pleased I did (instead of saving for a WK BFG), since the combat shotgun didn't show up until level 12 (hence the EE/SoB build).  The gatling was a very reasonable default weapon.  Laser rifle showed up earlier, maybe level 10?  It was quite nice, but I think in a non-ammochain game not a huge deal - I could have taken another Eagle Eye and just used plasma rifle.  Assault shotgun was probably a mistake to pick up (around Hell 5), as I already had two exotics to juggle.

I got surrounded by the first and second waves of Hell's Arena, and decided discretion was the better part of valor.  Not so much for the Hell Knights, as I seem to handle them easier than the cacos, but in case of a Chained Court before I levelled up.  So it was not feasible to clear the Chained Court, but double agility mods appeared beforehand anyway.

Micro launcher was great at the wall.  Easier to make sensible cover, and you can shoot a baron without worrying about destroying the backpack! with stray rockets.

The Vaults I entered because I had a pile of phases and was invulnerable, so why not?  Grammaton Cleric Beretta was not exactly what I wanted, but the experience and cells were.

I picked Hellrunner planning to get DM for the Cyberdemon, but after finding a nuke decided to change plans - just survive to the end.  Similarly, I was getting more nervous on Hell 8 than I really should have, and decided to run for the stairs as soon as I levelled up - and used a homing phase on Hell 9.  The start of Hell 9 had Vile/Baron/Mancubus/Sergeant in sight, and napalm barrels nearby, so I'm glad I had already lost 100% kills.

So, this run was going pretty well.  levelups worked at reasonably useful times, and tactical boots to accompany the armor.  I wasn't sure if I should attempt the Wall, but after finding a Hellwave Pack and recently reaching level 7 for MAD (184% HP), it seemed like a good idea.  I thought that the pack would take down the Barons in its radius, but I guess it works as an explosion, so more distant foes survived - and I was now completely out in the open looking at most of the Barons, since it did take down the walls.  I then used the Arena Staff, which was a mistake as on AoMs I don't have a second use of running.

I hope I can try that out again sometime, I suspect if you stand next to the final wall tile and use the pack there it would be pretty good.

I thought it would be a good idea to collect the known LOS issues in one place, in case Kornel feels like tweaking the system.  Not sure if that place is Bug Report or Feature Request :)

1) Firing around a corner with a shotgun behaves asymmetrically
2) sometimes the auto-aim ([f]) will select a path through a wall to shoot a visible target.  you can generally work around this by aiming manually until you have a clear path.

3) not sure if this one is intentional:

the former human killed to my northeast where the % is was able to shoot me, but I couldn't see him (you can see the corpse is still in the "dark")

examples of point #1 in the above image: the door to my southeast (around 4-5 spaces).  standing immediately NE or NW of that and next to it, I cannot hit the wall 2 spaces to the south of the door by aiming at it with the combat shotgun, even though it is visible to me. I can stand SW/SE of the door and hit the wall 2 spaces to the north.

Feel free to add others, guys - I'm pretty sure there was at least one more oddity.

I actually had the speedrunner silver badge in a beta, but I have been having a lot of trouble with it now - perhaps I had used the HP combat shotgun.  I just make a lot more mistakes when trying to go quickly, and I'm not fast at the best of times.  Armory spawned on this run, just to taunt me - I stopped and stared at those stairs in rage.  I used shotguns off and on until hellgate, very necessary for barrel levels and sergeants.  Clearing the hellgate seemed worthwhile for experience - run to the right door, kill stuff, berserk, kill the rest, more berserk, hope it lasts for the BBs.

It took a while to get a berserk in the Cathedral, which was worrying, but one led to the next vs the demons, and that was enough.  City of Skulls was almost the end of me.  Usually when I'm there in a melee game I have Vampyre.  Fortunately I had tons of medpacks to use with the Lance, and I got enough berserks there to last the rest of the game.  Necroarmor was nice, but came along late enough that it wasn't really relevant - I fought very little after that point.

I should have explored Hell 9, as I had homing phase and a nuke - but I had felt like I was slow in a few places earlier, and just phased to Cyberdemon.  That estimate was wrong, there had been plenty of quick levels to make up for it.  Oh well.  I probably could have even done Lava Pits to ensure it. :)  There's a watch on my desk and I don't play fullscreen, so the computer clock is also visible - no excuse to not know I had time.

Bug Reports / [0.9.9.2] no ammo from gibbed enemies

I think this might be intended behaviour, but I don't remember it from previous versions:

if an enemy is gibbed (with a chainsaw, for example) they don't drop their items.

it seems like it could cause unique armour to be destroyed, but I haven't verified that one way or the other.

Even in 0.991, the infrequency of the Armory was a bit annoying.  In 0.992 it's more so - it would be nice to have more chances at it.  Perhaps just widen its valid range, or shorten the Wall's - I'm not sure exactly how the system works, but I think they often conflict.  Being a guaranteed level might annoy Conquerors, though.

City of Skulls also seems to be pretty rare, but it's not as important.

the option EmptyConfirm in config.lua halts you if you try to fire an empty weapon. This way you don't then "aim" at an enemy / into space where you know he is and end up walking there instead.

It should also apply to other situations where you can't fire.  Firing the combat shotgun when it needs a pump is what came to mind, but there might be others (BFG with insufficient cells? I forget what happens then).

Bug Reports / [0.9.9.2] nanofiber armor can have lower protection

I assembled a nanofiber armor with the source armor being damaged red, and the resulting armor had 1 protection and was coloured red, as though it were damaged.  The durability was still listed as 100 in the description.  picking up an armor shard repaired the armor.

Is this a bug or a feature?

I'm poking at AoHu to try to get the assemblies I had in the beta, so I don't "discover" them again - you discover them rarely enough as it is!  Trying the Wall was perhaps not such a good idea.  I thought I had made useful cover, but I had not - and using a medpack led to death in the same turn, P-modded red be damned (incidentally, no longer having negative HP shown makes it harder to evaluate fatal mistakes).

My current leveling plan is EE1-WK-Int2-Cateye.  Vampyre is also tempting :)

Unload should work on the weapon in your hand, in addition to the ones in your inventory.
fire shouldn't require a weapon in hand (to melee a door - if you can punch armored demons you can punch doors)

well, I got a "full win", but didn't survive - I needed to preserve my 100% kills, so a nuke was the only option.  Found my first homing phase that hadn't been used by my foes on floor 23 along with the invuln, so I grabbed it, walked down, and nuked thrice.  And here I thought I was being silly by collecting so many nukes.

Once I got out of the beginning phases of the game things got a lot easier - I think this was my second UV run that passed floor 5 or 6. The other one died on floor 16 by shooting walls instead of the enemy, or healing (not paying attention to the firing line).  Juggler makes the beginning (& HA) so much easier, especially if the combat shotgun is not appearing.  In the midgame (pre-MAc) it lets you use the plasma when you need it and only when you need it.  in the end game - well, free switches to BFG or rockets.

almost had enough time on the counter at the end - maybe if I'd kept a chaingun to go fire-reload-fire-reload instead of walking around to kill time it would have lasted long enough.
