Title: Chaosforge last.fm group
Post by: Fingerzam on April 29, 2007, 15:30
When I asked Kornel if we should create a last.fm (http://www.last.fm) group for Chaosforge, he said that we'd need at least 3 persons for it, so after me and Kornel, we need one more.

For those who don't know what last.fm is, it's a website that keeps track of the songs you listen to, and then makes statistics from them and recommends you new artists based on what you and others have listened.

So, why would we need/want a Chaosforge group you ask? Well, we'd get some fancy statistics about the music DoomRL players listen to. And you could go check what your fellow players are listening to.

Okay, the group has been created. If you are interested, head to http://www.last.fm/group/Chaosforge (http://www.last.fm/group/Chaosforge) once you have registered.

I'm in, as "Niedowiarek". Another good place to lurk. :p

btw, are there any other roguelike-oriented groups at last.fm?

I listen to DoomRL MIDIS when i play DoomRL. i am not about to list my tastes in music for some soulless mass-marketing bot to derive market research data from, but if i HAD to pick a playlist for DoomRL, it would consist almost entirely of industrial music. So there.

Got the same reflections. I was on last.fm for a while, but when decided to quit. Last.fm is really a strange web-site with strange people, that love listen to music while reading books/watching TV. If I listen to music, I do it for my own pleasure not to amuse people (OMG! He had listened to 20000 times last week!).
Still it is a good place to check new music/genres/bands.

As for the music to shooters, it shoot be industrial, simple/fast/brutal. No time to listen to arpeggios [:

I actually listen to podcasts while I play games, including DoomRL. I don't know why, Maybe it doesn't get in the way of playing games like it does for me, but I'm obviously not sure.

How did I not notice this before! I just joined...

Last.fm actually recommended several of my favourite bands to me. If that is mass marketing, I don't mind it at all.

Actually, this is a good way to across new bands you didn't know before. Similarly, seeing the "other recommended videos" list on Youtube :).

BTW, there is a chrome extension here (http://www.last.fm/group/Bring+back+the+free+last.fm/forum/119952/_/652611), which allows you to play any song on last.fm immediately as it used to be, before last.fm radio stopped being free outside USA, UK and Germany. I think there's one for firefox as well.

BTW, I used to think how diverse my musical tastes were, now I know, thanks to last.fm, that it's mostly "alternative electronic indie rock" more often than not with a "female vocalist".

In line with the flood of donators, just wanted to necro-this a little to remind folks that we do have a last.fm group.

On another note, there is also a Steam group.  Search around.  =)
