According to the wiki, the Mastermind does NOT do bullet damage. I believe it- close inspections of mortems that end on Dis often have holes punched into the outer walls, indicating that Spidey can't possibly be dealing bullet damage.

've been playing DoomRL for quite a while now, just registered to post a question because I still don't understand shotgun mechanics well. Specifically, the double shotgun - is it and its kin considered as rapid-fire shotguns, since they fire 2 shots in succession? I'm asking because the most recent changelog states something quite crazy imo - Trigger Happy now works with rapid-fire shotguns. Does the DS get the benefit of TH and fire 3 shells instead of 2?
I don't think it does, and it doesn't matter anyways. Double and Super Shotguns only have clipsize of 2, so despite any traits or modding, those weapons will only ever fire two shells max.

Never was able to beat ADOM...
ADOM's actually really hard, even with a good race/class combo. The game is pretty long even going for a normal victory, and you need to always be really cautious.

Debated taking the time to strap on my red armor but didn't know if it was worth it. A quick look at his health showed "almost dead" or similar, so I figured "Heck, I can take one more round of combat before using another medkit. Shoot him and finish this hopefully." BOOM! He's still standing. RATATATATAT! I'm not. Commence rage.
First time I met the Mastermind in this version, I went in with ~60% health and no medkits. I did not survive. The Mastermind can deal a ridiculous amount of damage per burst, and judging by the last line of your message dump, she managed to nail you with a full volley. I have come to the conclusion that challenging her in a gunfight is actually a bad idea- it's just like classic Doom, where the Cyberdemon can deal more damage on paper, but is easily dodged, while the Mastermind can devour players with "hitscan" weaponry.

A couple of other things (I'm not trying to be dickish, just trying to point out some minor details)
-"Severely wounded" translates to about 40% health
-Agility mod on a Double Shotty doesn't do anything unless part of a certain advanced assembly
-(rhetorical) Why bother conserving resources on the last boss fight?

Your basics definitely seem solid enough though. Every game is a learning experience, and deaths often add exceptional insight.

How about just an ammo count somewhere on the status line? Counts up and displays the amount in your inventory for the current weapon normally, displays the amount left in an ammochain when one is equipped.
I like it. It's Doom-ish and this solution solves the issue nicely.

The Mortuary? Good lord, that one was difficult. I spent all my medpacks and two skulls there, just to leave two formers alive. They got to die, but having to waste through 10+ medpacks just to ensure the Archviles (And pretty much everything else there) were dead... Priceless.
You ever try the Scythe's alt-fire? It seems like it would basically be made for the Mortuary- all Arch-Viles on the floor can be dead in 7 moves... course, it'll cost you some max HP.

But, i'm not that much experienced a player anyway.
Ok, I'm no pro, but I know a few things about the mechanics.

Point #1- Ability to hit a target decreases with range from the target. With your 3 levels in EE, you should pretty much always hit Cybie at the edge of your vision, and he should have trouble retaliating. If he closes in, you'll have a harder time dodging. Ergo, with a little space behind yourself and the walls, you should easily be able to circlestrafe around him until he fires, then retaliate.
Point #2- As a Techie, you could have phases/healed in just about no time. Yes, that would be a tough fight with little to no armor (which is where you seemed to be headed), but doable. Phase/run to get some distance from Cybie, then blindfire both BFGs as close to him as you could manage. That Phase Device and the 2 Large Medkits probably could have seen you through. Oh, and Power Batteries for your BFGs? That helps even more. (er, looks like this was already covered in your thread. Apologies for any redundancy)

Good learning experience, though- live (die) and learn, and don't forget to have fun!

Nope. Back under 9.9.4 I played several Ao100 games. Even considering those runs, I only got the Dragonslayer to drop *once*, and the Berserker Armor about 3 times.

Ok, first off, I'm proud of myself for figuring out how to wield the Dragonslayer. Somewhat fittingly, of course I figure that out during an AoMr run. Therein goes the loss of the YAAM- I didn't even realize I was punching everything to death right away, but once I picked up on that, I figured it would probably be better just to run down to Dis ASAP. Gotta hand it to my character, though: even 'zerked out of his freaking mind with the Mastermind bearing down on him, my character stuck to his principles and punched out the Mastermind. Which was actually pretty easy- the Mastermind's really squishy in melee combat, so much so that I might go primarily for Chainsaw kills in the future.

Some other thoughts: Phobos Anomaly is a mofo under AoMr. I've never really figured out how to do it cleanly under this challenge, and given the changes to Lost Souls and to the Anomaly in general, I simply don't see an easy way to clear it without a lucky phase, a Shockwave Pack, or simply losing a lot of health. That Ballistic Vest saved my sorry ass from the Lost Soul ambush, but the Bruiser Bros. pretty much bruised each other. I think they did about as much damage to each other (from splash) as I dealt with my guns. Also, managed to put together a Storm Bolter Pistol in Hell's Armory; praise the f'ing Emperor! Just before I grabbed the DS, I was capable of occasionally one-salvoing Hell Knights, and killed Barons before they could respond. I shudder to consider what the SBP might be capable of in the hands of a Sharpshooter.
