Post by: Zi on August 09, 2009, 13:40: Wow, I am duly impressed at how quickly you managed this. Time for me to watch and learn. The skills I've developed on my own are truly horrible for AoB, so this is probably the first time I'll really pay attention to a demo to look for things to emulate.

Post by: Dervis on August 09, 2009, 16:53: As you can tell if you see the demo this challenge is all about maxing out your berserk time, and if you ever run out of juice just play the coward.
I got a very uncommon level 2, usually level 2 to 5 is just running for the stairs. For every decent run I probably died around 8 times before even reaching the Chained Court. Leaving the Chained Court i can usually make it at least to level 11 before berserker runs out, this run it was a little longer :P.
Arachnotrons and commandos are annoying as hell as they still damage you somewhat through the berserker. Knockback is a terror unless you're lucky to find plasteel boots. Cyberdemon never stood a chance but that's common in AoB.

About the differences in the beta:
- Modding the chainsaw really helps although i prefer the accuracy mod to the extra damage.
- Blademaster is THE trait for N! AoB.
- Those 8d3 shotgun dudes really hurt, specially because they got almost guaranteed knockback.
- No armor on the SoL doesn't hurt as much as i expected.

P.S. - Mancubi have a slightly strange behaviour, if you get close enough they just start running away from you. Viles and Revenants do the same, but it just looks out of place on that slow fat bastards.

P.S. 2 - I found something like 3 AdvTech modpacks during these runs. 'You need a ranged weapon to use this!' Grrrr!

By the way, did you change the proc rate on Berserker? It felt like it was activating more often.

Post by: Deaven on August 20, 2009, 17:32: Congratulations, man. First of all for the cold blood on level 5 and at the moments when your Berserk was turning off :) And recordig this was a great idea. I remembered this N! challenge as a boring survival lottery which at some point (getting into constant Berserk state) turns into most exciting DooomRL entertainment I ever had, the demo reminded me those moments.

Also good to know that N! AoB is still passable. Since Berserker became one level trait I was afraid it's not but it seems that longer (?) duration of Berserk recompensates lower chance per hit of falling into this state. BTW, anyone knows how precisely the weapon damage affects this chance?

EDIT: Well, with all this chainsaw modifying and knife throwing stuff it it may be even more passable then before. IMO that's a positive thing :)

I've been trying for N! AoB without success in the current non-beta test version .9.8.10 - the berserker trait almost never activates for me...
