I should have said blue armor... arena master does plasma damage according to the wiki.

Quote from changelog:

[new] -- TR#---: New Arch-Vile AI, also damage changed to 20 fire-based

I'm sorry...I'll shut up now....

The other Chained Court map is more difficult but still within reason. Use the same approach on the right side of the room first, try to kill enemies on the door or blast them into the lava so that the arena master can't revive them. Grab the agility mod and maybe put it on your boots. Then lead enemies from the left. Grab berserk and use red armor to fight the arena master. You can't dodge his ranged attack so rush in close and blast him.

May I ask where you are getting red armor from. (Since it only drops at 7+ and Phobos Anomaly...)

In regards to Cybie tactics, I would have to agree with dodgemaster.

It really sucks having Anomaly at dlevel 8 (7 earlier than before) and Cybie at dlevel 16(?) (14 earlier than before.) Before you would have a chance to peek into Hell's Armory before having to fight the Anomaly. Yes I do believe the Anomaly has been nerfed a little, old Cybie is still a bitch. Unless you get lucky with Lava Armour, specifically build Fireproof Red/Blue Armor, or just totally luck out, have beserk or invuln going in...it's a pretty hard fight. Considering all....

Thanks for the tip about Aimed shots, didn't know about that one.

Just used that on a run finished about 3 minutes ago...blew it on good old Cybie!

On my run here in OP, I had Lava Armour and was Zerked when I went in...so I just tanked him. This time I had Tac Armour and two medpacks - 1 small one large.

I got him to wounded, but then Dualreloaded...son of a bitch that hit hard...

I'll try again though, I'm determined to make it work!

Requests For Features / Mortem Series' (FORUM SUGGESTION)
« on: February 12, 2012, 01:25 »
(As I always put with suggestions on forums, my apologies if this has already been suggested. I always make a quick perusal of the forums, but nothing too thorough. If it has been suggested before, I have no qualms if the topic is just deleted or something...thanks for your consideration)

I was thinking about the Post-Mortem section of the forums, and came up with an idea.

My current "goal" in DoomRL is to complete the game utilising MBD. I posted one of my first half successful runs here. However if/when I actually win, I'd like to post another mortem, and have another little ramble on what I did, how lucky I got etc etc.

However instead of making another topic (which is what I believe (operative word being "believe) is the current norm) I'd much rather not clutter up the forums and put it in the same spot. So then, here's my idea.

Have another sub-forum (or not depending on how much this would be received) where people can place "Goal mortems". For example, my current goal of completing the game using MBD could be notated "Goal - complete on M using MBD" and when I complete it I could put "Complete" at the end or something along those lines. (To let people know that this goal isn't a WIP, and they can see the journey from beginning to end.) (Also, if someone decides to give up, they could put "Failed" or "Suspended" or something...)

I personally just think this would be awesome. The people who are actually good at the game could maybe have N! goals, or Diamond badge goals or something. But instead of just posting the end of the journey, people can see the journey, comment and help out maybe.

I don't know what people think of this, and maybe I'm taking the wrong light on the Post-Mortem forum. I just feel (personally) that it isn't a bragging ground, but more of a "have a look at what I'm doing right now in DoomRL", since the game is so robust like that.

Thanks for reading, hope you like my suggestion...although I won't take it personally if you don't! :P

0.9.9.5 / Re: [M|AoMr|86%|Hell 4|YASD] - Why I hate the Mortuary
« on: February 11, 2012, 17:31 »
True the combat pistol would have made a good second gun - but from where I was standing (cause I did try it out) the reload time in comparison to the speedloader was stupidly...stupid. Also, considering that I was firing three bullets at a time (per pistol) after two volleys, I was going to end up with only one pistol!

But yeah...that homing phase...I was kicking myself eight ways from Sunday about how stupid I was. I had medpacks, homing phase...the works!

In regards to ammo, I was very much living off Captains and Ammo Chains, which I did seem to find a lot of. To be fair, I did offload a ton of bullets before I died inside the Mortuary. Also, since I had to skip The Wall (no phases no rocket launcher (AoMr) I couldn't stockpile as much ammo for when I knew that I would not be getting as much.

EDIT: Something I didn't mention (which I am also kicking myself for) was that I did actually have a fire skull at one point...it would have been perfect for Mortuary!) However I dropped for the reason of, "I'll probably never need this..."

Discussion / Re: AoMr way harder than it was?
« on: February 10, 2012, 21:40 »
On my recent run (which wasn't going for MSs mind you...but still...) I managed to get up to The Mortuary (and fail miserably there) with just two speedloader pistols.

Mind you I did have Bullet Dance, which pretty much makes those pistols really OP. (Since you need both SoG 2 and SoB 3 to get it...that's an extra 6 damage if you get SoG 3...per shot...for a max of 14 (2d4+6) and there are 6 shots, which make it really really powerful.)

So yeah, I don't really think AoMr is harder than before...

« on: February 10, 2012, 02:14 »
Maybe I was just stupid...but I'm sure that I missed The Wall today...or maybe that was just me being stupid, going in then realising that I was a AoMr and had no phases...

Also, I knew about the mouse movement and graphics. imo, I'm not that impressed with the graphics if anything just because you can't see the full map in one glance of the eyeballs - which I do like about the ASCII version. (However I still think it's cool...)

Any way, those little hiccups have been fixed on my Word document. (I won't repost the thing every damn time - just inform! :D)

0.9.9.5 / [M|AoMr|86%|Hell 4|YASD] - Why I hate the Mortuary
« on: February 10, 2012, 02:08 »
I see a bunch of hate for Bullet Dance...more so among my friends, however I have proved here that it does work, at least to a point.

I might have actually won my first game of DoomRL (on AoMr at that!) if it wasn't for being stupid enough to enter the Mortuary.

Funny story though, I actually said directly to my friends, "Am I crazy?" and when the answer came back as "Yes", I delved in.

It was really only a lack of attention/abundance of stupidity which led to my death. Why ever the hell I didn't just use a medpack or two...or fell back to the Supercharge globes is beyond me. However, those viles just kept giving me barons, and that, even with my Lava Armour, led to my death.

When it comes down to it, I was pretty lucky. Except for the fact that every mod pack I seemed to find after the Armoury was a bulk pack, my modding was very successful in the beginning. I was at first experimenting with High Power Pistols, but once I realised that Bullet Dance actually fired extra shots, I easily then made an extra Speedloader.

I did actually find a combat pistol in the Armoury, and if I found a second I might have used them, but I didn't, so I stuck with the Speedloaders.

Near the end (although I had an inkling I wouldn't make it) I was trying to get Whizkid to put P mods on my speedloaders, but alas, the Mortuary got me first!

All in all, a decent run, I'm more than happy with it, I'm still kicking myself for being stupid enough to actually go into the Mortuary in the first place though...

Discussion / DoomRL Blogging - my attempt at a review! (Finished)
« on: February 10, 2012, 01:55 »
This is possibly just shameless self-advertising, but I thought that before actually posting a DoomRL review on my blog...I should really come to the experts. I hold and maintain a blog of reviews and rants, and after getting 0.9.9.5 up (and enjoying it) I decided to write a little review on the game. It has to be one of my "coffee break" favourites, so it's certainly a favourable review. I'm also hoping that at least one person who reads the review actually downloads the thing, since it would be pretty cool if I could actually help the PR of DoomRL! But anyway, I'm humbly right now, asking for your help! I want you to review my review!

For starters, here is what I have now - http://pastebin.com/DxJRWfRK

OK, now before everyone jumps up and says "do this" here's my parameters...

- Don't tell me to change my opinion. If I have a fact wrong and I complain about it however...different story... :D
- I'm asking for advice and clarification. I've played DoomRL since the latter days of 0.9.9.3, so although I wouldn't cry that I'm a veteran, but I've been around the block. However my knowledge on the game is minimal to none...hence my coming here!
- Anything else is fair game. However please don't write the paragraph for me. For example, if you think with all your heart that putting a section in on assemblies (as opposed to glossing over them like I did) is the best thing since sliced bread...just say it. I'll write it, don't you worry! ;)

Also, if anyone is really game to actually help (although I'm not banking any hopes here and won't hold it against anyone if they don't help...:D) I'd appreciate some screenshots of the game. I'll be picking maybe...5 in the end, and I'm looking for at least semi-high resolution. i.e. At it's "original" size everything can be seen. (Also - if you wish to put your own caption on it, I'll be happy to include it as the caption for the picture)

If anyone does actually help, thank you very much. If not, thanks anyway for just reading!

Cheers, Pricklyman
