0.9.9.6 / Re: [M|AoSh|YAAM] Finally I can move on!
« on: June 12, 2012, 02:14 »
With a Double Shotty and Shottyman, the AE goes down hard. You just have to know the DS's spread pretty well so that souls/pain elementals don't get outside of it. Just get close and keep blasting. Move, blast, move, blast. Takes a little while, but it's easy. I actually don't pick up any of the rewards, I just do it for easy XP.

Going to try winning a regular HMP game now with Shottyhead. My difficulty at the moment is tweaking my CC+ strategy. My old strategy of slaughtering the cacos outside with the guaranteed DS from HA, then picking up two zerks to deal with the AM, again with the DS, saving the last one for after the fight, isn't working because the HKs aren't as easy to kill with just a shotgun. May have to bring out the RL, but without any mods, I'm worried it won't be an effective weapon.

I got the Assault Shotgun at the Mortuary, which I think it's guaranteed at. Until then, the Tac Shotty I had served me perfectly well. I'd planned on making a focused DS, but then I found phaseshift boots and Necroarmer/Malek's and the need for WK2 went away. This game gave me lots of mods and lots of great finds, usually I either get good mods or nothing at all. I threw away more power mods than I used in this one. I didn't realize how good Malek's was until I looked at the movespeed. +30% is ridiculous. Only thing that would have made this run more badass would have been a nano mod for gravity boots.

875 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
 839 of those were killed.
3 of those were killed by something unknown.
2 didn't read the thermonuclear bomb manual.
And 25 couldn't handle the stress and committed a stupid suicide.

 6 souls destroyed the Mastermind...
6 killed the bitch and survived.

--------------------------------------------------------------

I'd gotten to the SM a bunch of times before playing AoSh, but couldn't ever beat her. I finally switched to a pure move-speed based build, then got lucky with Maleks and phaseshift boots. That allowed me to ignore WhizKid and take a few ranks of Ironman, which really helped with the Mortuary. I picked up a third rank of HR right before Dis.

My movespeed was, I think .27 secs, and my firespeed was .20 secs. That's ridiculously fast. Arch-Viles didn't stand a chance. I was able to unload that entire Assault Shotgun on the SM and then get to cover around the other corner of the pillar, and reload, without her getting into attack position.

Really glad I finally was able to kick this one off the list. I managed to correct a lot of mistakes in my playstyle, and use my ridiculous speed to actually not get hit rather than encourage a false sense of security.

Discussion / Re: Arachnophobia: Spider's Lair discussion

Really NOT good idea, given that shotguns will push them from point blank range to 1-2 tiles range, at which they will just melt you with plasma.
On AoSh, I do the Lair every time. Trick is blue armor, preferably bulk modded, Tac Boots, and judicious use of running. Take the teleporters, hang out at the bottom of a wall and wait for one to go through the teleporter. You're in a perfect position to corner shoot them. If one comes from the center, ping it once with a combat shotty, then hide behind the wall close to the other end of it, then when you see it turn the corner you just left, hop onto the other edge and then corner shoot. This tactic will work until you have to deal with two of them at a time. Then you turn on running and try to get to another corner shooting position. Shottyhead helps to keep them towards the edge of FOV so they won't do as much damage.

If they stop coming, then you can venture out and radar shoot. If you pop one, don't wait for it and slug it out in the open, keep pinging it while retreating backwards towards the walls, then deal with it behind cover. Or just go in the tele and hop to the other end, if you're feeling froggy.

Discussion / Re: Let's take on the Mortuary!

What about using a plasma/plasmatic shotgun to destroy corpses?  Seems like it would be quite effective to me.
Only works when you kill enemies. You can't just chew through a bunch of already dead corpses with one.

81
To pass the City of Skulls, all one really needs is a double-shotty and a shell box, one of which is guaranteed in Hell's Armory. Use the shell box in the beginning to clear the area around you of skulls, then  your regular weapon to deal with the stragglers. Then use the shell box again for the AE fight. You may need more shells if playing UV.

82
With the DS and permazerk, you should have been able to do the Lava Pits without E-suits. Then with the Lava Element you could have gotten your full win.

83
My strategy for CC+ is to go right without taking chainsaw/zerks, kill all of the cacos/demons and humans, grab the agility pack, then take the saw and both zerks, or just one if you're a marine, saving the other for after the level's cleared. Only problem is being careful to not lose a zerk to caco/baron fire. Maybe kill them from the left. Either way you should have enough zerk to finish off the AM and get to the next level.

I've noticed on times a failure to dodge Knight or Baron shots. It's pretty rare, but it happens.

Discussion / Re: Easy Angel of Death Kill Method!
« on: April 27, 2012, 11:48 »
I never checked it, but i always thought AS gives you +4 bonus too.
Though anyway i saw AA 4 times, and wore it about once, so does not really matter much for me.
When I was playing AoOC, I went into the UC every time. Got lots of Scythes and lots of Spears. Scythe def does not give +4 protection with AA, and 9d9 isn't a crazy amount of damage over 8d8. Both slaughters things at close range. The Scythe's alt-fire just isn't useful enough to be worth the 5HP hit, but the Spear's is *very* useful for when you get surrounded. I consider the Scythe a penalty rather than a bonus.

Remember to get a 100% kill rate up to this point, in order to obtain Azrael's Scythe
Eh. I prefer the Spear, simply because of the +4 armor you get with Angelic Armor. Plus the special attack doesn't hurt your HP.

Why two levels of EE on a pistol build, since you didn't take Int?

Happens with Trigger Happy too.
