0.9.9.4 / Re: [M|AoD|90%|YAVP] Blind rage
« on: October 16, 2011, 00:48 »
I guess I could've used the spear's special to destroy the bodies, but I guess I was a bit too busy whacking down arachnotrons for that.
The skulls are certainly less than truly effective in AoD though.

This was pretty fun, to be honest.
Boy is AoD+HNTR experience-friendly. I got Vampyre really fast, though the rest of the game was more Longinus molesting than Vampyring. (Which was more of a supportive healing.)
City of Skulls wasn't very fun though, what with all the endless soul waves.
The Mortuary, however, was a true nightmare. Not only were there archviles to resurrect the enemies, they also respawned on their own.
I ended up wasting all the soul charges (and all but a single stimpack), and still there were lots of enemies left. I pretty much gave up after fighting 2-3 arachnotrons at once for what must've been the 5fth time already.
The Shielded Armor from a lucky phase device in the Vaults did help a lot though. :-)

Who said I was bragging?
This is more of a test, since I really wanted to see what Malicious Blades was on about.
And guess how smoothly that went since I ended up save whoring and HNTR-ing.

Oh boy, this was a so-so fun run. (With lots of save whoring, as usually.)
So this time I found a nano pack, and though "Hells yes!", and so it was time to get something funky (eg. Gravity boots).
But then >:( occured, I simply couldn't mod anything beyond non-whizkid level. I "might" have understood it if you modded something before getting it.
But then I tried making a PPN Duelist Armor, and you can see for yourself how that went..
So yeah, >:( You, Whizkid.
Edit: Didn't realize there were [mortem] tags. :x

Yeah, it seems kinda over-the-top. And increased survivability against pinkies certainly wouldn't hurt.
A superior offense (and no defense) doesn't help in a game of survival. (Unless it's superior ranged offense, of course.)
As for charging sergeants, yes, you can. But 1-2 hits worth of 14-24% of your health is certainly not tolerable a couple of times per map.
Don't forget that orbs heal 20% of the health of a scout/tech, and those are usually not plentiful enough for you to blindly charge into a sergeant.
And then there's also the issue of them being plentiful in the earlier levels, which I do mention as the main case of this thread.
Now's the time I kinda regret not being able to test stuff out.

I can't really see what's more to learn about sergeants now, other than gift-luring them in (often) impossible conditions.
And it could be (1*Brute)d3 for all I care, but a bit of extra health would still be nice.
Or well, I don't know, 10% Melee resistance instead of health?
Don't tell me that dealing around with tougher foes (tomatoes) isn't luck-based (dodge dodge) early on now though.

I was thinking about how annoying it is to actually start with a melee build.
Yes, they become rather nasty later in the game, but now I'm thinking about how nasty everything is in the beginning.
To compensate, it might be a so-so idea to make it give you some health in addition to damage.
So, from "+3 Melee damage*Brute level", I'm thinking about "+((1*Brute level)d2 + Brute level) Melee damage, and +5*Brute hit points"
Yes, some extra health, but 0 to Brute level less damage.
Thoughts about my wacky idea?

I still find this a Coffe-Break Roguelike.
Blasting through a couple of levels can take ten minutes, ten interesting minutes.
Isn't that coffe-break enough?
As for challenges, it'd be fun if you could combine them. (Ao100+AoD, AoSg+Ao100)
Though I guess most of those would be next-to/impossible to complete, it'd still be interesting to play them. :-)

I'm very certain it was PGDN, as I strafed in between some lava. I think there was a lava spot just in the "space" after "An", and as I went through it..
Well, you already know what happened next.

Bug Reports / Re: [0.9.9.4] ..An unhalted exception? (Yipe!)
« on: September 09, 2011, 10:48 »As an FYI for bug reporters that can provide error.log information, it is standard to simply use code tags and dump the log into the post. For example:Hm, thanks. Didn't think of that one, since it's rare to have such short error logs. (They're usually 40-something KB.)Code: [Select]Stuff
I KNOW I've seen this kind of error somewhere, but I can't say I have any clue as to what the problem could have been. vluaconfig.pas points to your config files, so there may be some kind of oddity in there if you've been messing with them at all.Well, I doubt it's about my configs. Since the only changes I applied was specifying an AlwaysName and turning on SkipIntro. (Both should only crash the game when starting a new game, not mid-game!)
And thanks for the welcome. :x
Edit: I also seem to have lost my Gatling gun after the crash. A shame. :(
