Sorry I wasn't commenting lately. Unfortunately I didn't have time... I also wanted to inform you guys, that I'm away till the 22 of November. The good news is that when I'm back I'll start seriously working on the 0.9.9 version. See you then!

Pre-0.9.9 / YAVP with nuke

before i used the nuke, i've tried overcharging the BFG9k, but you know what? it only make the Cyberdemon (almost unhurt).
That really frustrated me...

An overcharged BFG is mostly good for it's great range. As for plain damage it adds +20 AFAIR.

He faced The Wall. =no rocket launcher when i'm there...

You must have destroyed it ;-).

3 sacrificed itself for the good of mankind. = i've done this twice, but in my highscore has 4 (?????)

Hmm... it doesn't count the current victory (only past ones). Is that still ok?

Bug Reports / Bug - Item Drops
« on: November 09, 2005, 16:20 »
It's meant to be that way. DoomRL is based on fixed arrays (contrary to for example DiabloRL). If there is no way to place an item it should be destroyed. Except for making all arrays open ended (which would be a lot of work, not worth the effort) I don't see any way to change that behaviour.

Perhaps have it automatic for every character.

This isn't good cause the files will get MASSIVE.

Also, sounds hard to program :(

Nope :-P

Actually it's already implemented... the only problem is that the recorder records a frame each time doomrl calls refresh -- what makes targeting and explosions look stupid :-P.

advanced combat shotgun too (6d4)

These toys rule IMHO :-]

Quoting: James
So... what's up with this overcharge deal :>

Try the alternative reload (capital 'R') :-P. Warning : the weapon will be destroyed in that process.

Phobian, level 7 soldier, defeated the Cyberdemon

Congratulations! :-)

Quoting: James
He faced The Wall.

Have you completed it?

Quoting: James
advanced rocket launcher (4d5) [1/1]

Guess that answers my question :-D.

Quoting: James
On level 18 he found a hellish city.
Then he ventured into the Spider's Lair.

Just before the final showdown... You got a lot of hellish cities this game.

Quoting: James
Before him 56 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
56 of those were killed.

Kheh, no suicides ;-).

Quoting: James
After I managed to beat the spider lair, ended up with 2 BFG's (carry more plasma that way and less reload). BFG twice on the big C, switch to second BFG and fire a few more times, hit a +, reload and fire a few more times...

You could have overcharged one ^_^

Quoting: James
It was strangely satisfying to win for the first time. This game has to go to my top 5 best games ever made.

Oh come on, don't exaggarate!

Quoting: James
and I hope to see sequels!

As Jake pointed out there will be additions instead of sequels. Two that might interest you most are 1) difficulty levels (greater challenge) and a more complex "dungeon"... actually to give off a secret I'll tell you that Phobos will be completely redesigned and I play with the idea of adding Mars, Deimos and Hell...

Angel of all trades

Unfortunately increasing the inventory size would be quite problematic source-wise :-/

Requests For Features / Linux bineries (or source)
« on: November 04, 2005, 16:14 »
Quoting: Aerton
It is a question for Korenl, as I have no access to the source code. AFAIK, he is using some library for sound, so it might be a limitation of the library.

I'm using FMOD for sound and it states clearly that there is no MIDI support for Linux :-(.

Discussion / I really like this game

Duel pistols would be kind of cool. They would not stack up to the chaingun so they would not affect the play that much except add a different play style.

Yup I like it. And I found a way to implement it in the interface.

Really? Besides showing it off to all your friends?? This game is full of suprises, not long ago I just found an interesting thing to do with the plasma rifle :-)

You can do that with the BFG too ^_^

Requests For Features / Just some requests

Quoting: Almafeta
I was invited to post them here, so:

Welcome :-).

Quoting: Almafeta
*Command: Use 'w' for Wear/Wield.

Change your ini-file :-).

Quoting: Almafeta
*Feature: Silhouetted. +10 to be hit when your back's against a wall. Counts for monsters as well as humans...

This doesn't seem obvious to me.

Quoting: Almafeta
*Healing: You would heal 1 HP every 10 steps for 50 steps after you got hit. This could be improved by a trait (Fast Healer, heal 10% faster per level).

Believe me -- not a good idea. Most of the fast pace of DoomRL comes from the fact that there is no natural healing.

Quoting: Almafeta
*Monster: Zombies. Weaker than former human soldiers, but they're not generated one at a time, they're generated in packs of 2d6...
*Monster: Zombie dogs. No melee, but they're at least twice as fast as you are.

Undoomish :-(

Quoting: Almafeta
*Request: Nods to the games Fallout (gauss pistols?), Quake (lightning guns), or Gamma World (death ray pistols, don't work on the undead).

Out of those only Lightning gun could make it to the game -- other's are definitively undoomish. Also the current philosophy is that each weapon should be a) always useful b) different.

Quoting: Almafeta
*Challenge: Stupid (start with no traits, don't gain new traits as you level up).

Nice :-).
