General Discussion / Re: How to get into beta?
« on: July 12, 2019, 01:15 »
I hope it's alright to ask here.

I've pledged £16.00 , which means I "get the  the game once it goes live on Steam or wait a bit and get a DRM free key at full release". I'm a little confused about the specifics of this. So can I have full access during both early access and after release, or do I get to choose? Also, what is DRM?

You get it once it hits retail 1.0 (that is after Early Access). DRM means "Digital Rights Management", AKA "Copy protection". DRM-free usually means you get it without any copy protection and usually either download it directly from the company or from a site like GoG.com that does not include DRM.

Steam, believe it or not, is DRM. In most cases, Steam must be running to play Steam games.

Okay, that's valuable info. That helps a lot in judging how things work. Thanks!

General Discussion / Enemy stats
« on: February 01, 2019, 06:16 »
Is there a comprehensive list of enemy stats (damage, accuracy, armor etc) somewhere, or does the in-game stats take into consideration armor and stuff?

I can see "Dam: 14" when I aim at an enemy, but I'm unsure if this involves their armor or not. I'm getting to the point where these things are becoming more important in order to figure out builds and balance and it right now feels like I'm flying a bit blind.

So its based off of pure luck to actually have both those things? Damn that sucks cause those levels are rare af. Oh well -.-
Uhm, no, they're not rare. They're literally hardcoded to show up, as they're paired levels. You cannot miss them.

It would likely take an enormous amount of work that Kornel just doesn't have right now with the development of Jupiter Hell.

Not bad! I haven't been in the DoomRL groove for a while, but once I get back to it I'm gonna make a real effort to reduce the chasm that is between your skill level and mine ;)

That's seriously impressive! I've been doing AoMr runs too lately and I haven't been having as much success, and this is in spite of me going for Gun Kata instead of Sharpshooter. Well played sir!

Some of the most heart-racing gameplay I've ever had. Terrifying is only the beginning. Nice surprise after killing the queen too. I was carried hard by the combination of the flamethrower and the pulse rifle. My early game was carried by an early shotgun find. This game is not easy :P

You can really just make your own "public" folder. You simply put everything in that folder and then create links for every file. Kind of like how you did before in the public folder.

I like console for the reason that I can see the entire map easily. I don't like console because it lacks clarity in some things. It's easy to miss an item on the floor for instance. Tiles have much higher clarity which allows my eyes to relax while I'm playing. It's really a tossup on which I like best.

Releases / Re: Vid's DoomRL Sound Pack
« on: March 02, 2017, 05:22 »
That is fucking weird.

Thanks a ton, though! I'll put them in as separate LUAs for Linux, since I can't be sure everyone has the HQ sound pack for windows, and I want mod installation to be as painless as possible. This way, I can be sure everything works. I credited you in the readme.
I've been digging through this even more, and now it runs with the original filename. I'm starting to think it may just be a bug that is local and unique to me and not something related to your mod.

Some files simply will not load SOMETIMES. The only one I'm consistently able to reproduce is the track that's supposed to play in the Vaults. Which is also funny, because that's a stock song, not one added by your mod. So I'd say unless someone has exactly my problem (they'll likely have it with their stock game too) the linux mod is ready to go.

I could probably make a couple of LUAs with your HQ pack as well, so you can distribute them equally. The only crash bugs are related to case sensitive file names being wrong and one MP3 file that won't load (SCHWING.mp3). I had to convert that to .wav to make it stop crashing on trying to load it.

You do get to keep the badge though, right? I don't remember how it works, tbh xD
