I need a "playground" for the newly developed Neko library, before I move on to bigger projects with it. Due to speed of development, I'd probably choose one of the smaller projects. If you could see a revisted version of one of the smaller ChaosForge roguelikes which one would you like it to be?
Please don't take into account the "maturity" of the roguelike in question -- as it would be rewritten anyway.
Read about it here : http://blog.chaosforge.org/articles/36/aliensrl-berserk-or-diablorl
Also, if you vote, please comment!

I voted DiabloRL, as if you do work on it, I will endeavour to work on it with you if it remains open source.
-
BERSERK!
-
I voted AliensRL but my heart secretly yearns for GenRogue, lol...
-
I'm sure Tav's choice surprised no-one :P
In any case, I voted for DiabloRL as well.
-
Aliens RL.
-
I like DoomRL far more than the others in their current state. Voted DiabloRL out of the three, though.
-
Topic bump, I need moar votes!
-
I'll gladly vote for AliensRL as many times as you want me to...
...eh, I wish.

Can't you just sticky it? =P

I want a better version of DiabloRL. The game itself is already a roguelike-lite, but I wouldn't mind if it was made as close as possible so I don't have to pay for Diablo ¬_¬

Ya bum... isn't it dirt cheap now? =P

No money...yet.

I'd vote either DiabloRL or BerserkRL, both of them are good. But to make a proper DiabloRL you'd need to invest a lot of time in it, probably more than you ever did in DoomRL. To add six classes, skills, a lot of spells, massive number of quests, huge amounts of magical items and enemies plus the amount of playtesting needed to make everything work means this is a really big project and god knows how long it'd take to finish. Definitely not suited for a "playground".
On the other hand, BerserkRL is a rather simple game, since it's basically an arena where you fight nonstop. All the equipment is already there, so work is only needed on the skills, enemies and some other details. Much easier to work with and shouldn't take long to complete.
So my vote goes to BerserkRL.

I think Kornel is basing this on the first Diablo game, which is more rogue-like than we might imagine.

From the readme.txt of DiabloRL:
If I would (only if I get enough motivated by you ;-)) ever make a full
version it would have:
-- the full range of Diablo items, monsters, uniques, prefixees and spells
-- catacombs, caves and hell -- each with a unique level generator
-- all the original Diablo quests with the original texts
-- all the hidden quest locations and uniques
-- additional quests that by Blizzard that didn''t appear in Diablo
-- full spell and missile weapon system
-- six classes -- Warrior, Mage, Rogue, Monk, Bard and Barbarian
-- maybe additional Hellfire content -- spells, items, quests, uniques.
-- Programmer''s edition -- how the author himself see''s the world of Diablo
-- proper shops, and special rooms in dungeons
Remember that Berserk has a lot less stuff to work on...no shops, spells, quests and so on. It's a much simpler project.

Correct. There is the town, Tristram, with the dungeon below it. It's basically Angband without all the LOTR refernces.

After reading the blog post, I change my vote to Berzerk. I want a Happy Kornel.
Especially since a Happy Kornel is a Productive Kornel, and that equals DoomRL2.

Dang... the God Hand has spoken. >.<
-
Naw, he's giving his power to the people. He'll do Berzerk, it's just to see wether people want it now, or later.
-
Could you open the poll so you can change your vote, Kornel?

I think it is. You might need to remove the vote and recast it I think.
-
AliensRL... I'd love to see a new version of this game.

Thanks, the remove vote button blended into the background.

Voted for AliensRL o)
-
BERSERK !
-
Frankly, I think Berzerk is rather boring. Sure it is fun to play a couple times, but there is no replay value for me. AliensRL is relatively fun to me, but for long-term fun and replayability my vote is for DiabloRL.
All of you pansies who voted for something else because it is easier need to change your votes. :)
Kornel offered DiabloRL. I figured that he would not have if he did not think it is possible. It is also unfinished. What good would a remake of Berzerk or AliensRL do? We can already play both of those games?

What does that mean? Sure DiabloRL isn't finished, but it's playable, right? I can play it too. But I didn't like it as much as the idea of Berzerk after thinking about it. And I didn't vote for Berzerk because it was easier, I voted for Berzerk in the end because it 'll allow me a new version to kill things in. Version Kill.Stuff you might say.
-
Hey guys, Berserk =/= Berzerk. The latter is a crappy arcade game.
-
Hey Ruldra, I don't care. It the same thing as the "toe-mae-toe, toe-ma-toe" debte. at the end of the day, it's still Tomato. And i'm used to my Zed (am I using that right, anyone who's british?) being in Berzerk. Sorry.
-
And i'm used to my Zed (am I using that right, anyone who's british?) being in Berzerk.
Zed's fine.
-
9/10/7/2...
Definitively interesting...
-
Zed's fine.
Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead.
Voted AliensRL because I'm not familiar with the source material for the other two.
-
For me AliensRL is almost finished in a current state - it just needs few major and minor bugfixes and weapons tweaks (some of them suck badly).
Plus a few quite needed features would make the game more pleasurable (like autowalking-till-the-enemy-is-in-sight).
-
Berserk of course! Why would you want diabloRL? There are so many generic dungeon crawlers already. Just play angband or something. Berserk is unique and therefore much more interesting!
-
Or, you could go to hell. Just because its unique, it isn't interesting. The way you say it, its as if everyone finds it interesting, solely because its the only one of its type.
So what if there are heaps of generic dungeon crawlers? Many people grew up with the Diablo games, and I for one am interested as to how a finished version of DiabloRL would turn out.
-
I voted DiabloRL, because it just needs to be.
-
Still, what's the Kornel's choice? Or how many votes must any of projects gather to become a winner?
-
Don't forget, the current bounties on DiabloRL on neko are a lot more lucrative than all the others..
-
Counting 10$ = 1 vote and counting Kor's choise=5 votes we have
[A /B!/D ]
[12/18/18]
Personally I voted for B! because:
1)It's really cool, although needs some reworking, it could be done now.
2)Diablo itself is a good RPG game, and RLBasin says it's a RL, it doesn't need a RL version.
3)Aliens are good at current stage, they doesn't needreworking.
So the only choise is Berserk(for me of course, I don't wan't to violently persuade everybody).
-
3)Aliens are good at current stage, they doesn't needreworking.
AliensRL is in BETA state with all this bugs and issues. The previous stable version do not even have save option.
-
I voted for DiabloRL, as AliensRL is a pretty much working game, while DiabloRL was left out in a demo or "shareware episode one" stage, to use Doom parallel :)
-
BERSERK!
-
DiabloRL, of course. I'm waiting for it from the announce in 7DRL "demo".
-
BERSERK!
I'd love to see this get updated so much. As for the other choices:
DiabloRL - no offense, but I've played so much Diablo, Diablo II, LoD + mods that it's at the bottom of my list. If it winds up getting good and updated, though, I'll pop in the CD and play it through.
AliensRL - I wouldn't mind seeing this balanced and tweaked, as it's very cool and different, but my only experiences with it so far are running out of ammo and getting killed on level 1 a few times.
-
Beruseruku!
It will sound stupid, but I share the same opinions Ander has, especially regarding the issues with AliensRL (Which may or may not be because I suck at it badly). Either way, I'm also more interested into seeing how BerserkRL would end looking like, as the system it makes use of is one I find mildly interesting.
-
Wait.
Can I change my vote to HereticRL?
-
Wait.
Can I change my vote to HereticRL?
Does HereticRL even exist, or something?
Either way, another reason to why I vote for BerserkRL :D
-- A campaign mode, where you travel from battlefield to battlefield,
gaining items, levels, and loosing your sanity
I would kill my mother for a taste of BerserkRL's campaign mode xD

I want it to. .___.
