Well, here's my first successful intuition build. Lost a few guys to trying this before, but this one finally took off.

If there's one thing I've learnt, its that Cateye, Intuition and an (A) Chaingun (eventually an Assault Chaingun paired with a Hyperblaster) are amazing. If you're cautious, you can snipe basically everything on the level; and the only thing that really threatens you are ambushes at the start of a level, levels like the wall, and the bosses (which all do indeed drain more medikits than usual, but still).

Ran out of 10mm ammo in hell again even though I had the backpack and brought tonnes. Fortunately, I had the hyperblaster this time (and no pistols restriction) as backup. I then found two 10mm chains shortly afterward, so I was in the clear.

Decided against doing Spiders Lair this time since I was looking pretty ragged at the time (had lost all medikits since 3 barons and 4 cacodemons were camping on the stairs at the start of the level).

Somehow generated a level with an Invincibility globe right by the entrance to Dis again so got Masterminds Brain for the second time. (and again, no nuke!)

This guy also got my Silver Armoury badge, so cool. Only one silver and one bronze to promotion now.

Well, that was bizarre, but I guess it proved something else to me.

I started this run under the assumption that I'd be taking Army of the Dead for the first time, but, silly me, for my level 5 pick I wasn't paying attention after a swarm of demons and grabbed Hellrunner automatically. About 2 minutes later I was like F@£&!

Despite this, as you can see, this character continued shotgunning like a boss and went on to be my first full win. Funny that, and hence proving to me that Master skills aren't always the be all and end all point of a build. In fact, having a Whizkid Marine was quite refreshing.

Having Badass from level 1 was amazingly handy; since I guess its like have 2 and 1/2 Ironman picks (on a Marine = 90 health?). Well, at least on ITYTD. It'll perhaps be less useful on higher settings where theres less health globes, but for this run, it was great.

Of course, skipping out on Army of the Dead meant that Barons were generally a complete pain in the butt. The Wall was rather hard, but fortunately I had picked up a tactical shotty on the level before, which, combined with a 1-wide hole and a bit of radarshooting, made all the difference (hilariously, I levelled up after one hell knight shot the other in the ass here). I think it was kind of a fluke that I managed it this time; but are there any consistant tips for making sure you blow open just a 1 space wide hole?

The RNG tried to kill me quite a few times after that. First level of Deimos appeared to be a tiny cave Cacodemon theme-level which was scary. I finally managed to assemble a tactical shotty two levels after that which really helped until I could pick up Whizkid and make the Focused Double Shotgun later (which is amazing, by the way- kills the only real weakness of using a Double Barrel, that awful spread).

After this point (tac-shotty), though, the game utterly swamped me with P and B mods. Not even joking, I've never seen so many, must have seen 12 P and 7 B mods over the course of the game. I assembled a Gatling Gun for a laugh at one point since there were so many. At least I was also able to generate a Nanofibre Green Vest as a result; this lasted me most of the game.

Hell was utterly horrible in its level generation. There were two Arachnotron themed levels, then one with two Arch-Viles standing behind a huge crowd of Formers.  The Focused Double Shotty continued to perform well though. Lava Pits had the entire Gothic set lying around and an Energy Shield Vest. Nuked Spidey with the Nuclear Plasma Rifle I'd kept this time (ate the Lava Element to invincible myself).

The ES Vest helped immensely for the JC fight. I was duelling him with the focused shotty for quite some time, but eventually there were just too many Hell Knights and Cacodemons swarming the place so I pulled out the BFG to clear them away, but this also finished him off (he teleported into the BFG shot aimed at the Hell Knights, which was hilarious).

My first attempt at Malicious Blades, and my first win! Shoop-da-whoop!

For the first ~half~ of the game, I pretty much just relied on my basic shotty and rockets (built a Microlauncher really quite early). When I hit Halls of Carnage and got Malicious Blades, I then switched over to the Piercing Knife I'd prepared earlier (standard Knife in off-hand) and turned into a human blender!

The Wall was very hairy here, nearly got swamped because unluckily there were 4 Hell Knights waiting at the top the moment I broke through. Blew them back with the minilauncher and then switched to shotty. Fortunately, I had a Shell box in the offhand, and the uber-fast reloads are probably the only reason I survived!

Next problem showed up on Deimos 2, where a Baron had got his hands on an Onyx armour!! Took about 30 shells and two large medkits to take that sucker down; but of course as a bonus I got the Onyx armour for myself, which helped alot. I eventually found Lava Armour on Hell 4 that replaced it. I kept the Onyx under the assumption the Lava would eventually be destroyed, but as luck would have it, Megaspheres kept it going (didn't realise that they fixed ANY armour, even normally unfixable ones).

Spiders Lair almost killed me this time. Ending up spamming the BFG to deal with them.

Found a Berserk pack and Gothic Boots just next to the Babel stairs. This helped immensely for Cybie; I charged him (boots meant basically no knockback!) and slashed him to ribbons! Barely took any damage!

Hell 1 was finally nice enough to give me a Bulk pack, so turned my offhand knife into a Chainsword, finally.

Hell 5 was a problem; there was a stack of Barons on the other side of a lava with no bridge across. Ended up using all the rest of my mods at the time to build a Hyperblaster and cornershoot them. It worked, but took quite a long time.

Lava Pits was actually a cakewalk since I'd had the forsight to bring an Envirosuit pack (still had it from early in Deimos, actually).

Then, finally, Hell 7 immediately dropped me next to an invincibility globe and I was like 'hmm... this is going to be bad, isn't it?'. I chose not to take the globe and stepped out of the door. And it was bad! 4 Mancubuses immediately opened fire! That was painful because, silly me, I'd taken off the Lava Armour! Barely survived, ducked back inside, and large medikitted myself. Fortunately, they all then wondered around my scrap of a remaining wall and I blended them into a fine paste. A pair of Arch-Viles joined the party, but they were too late to ressurect more than 1 mancubi.

Now, the Dis stairs were at the far other side of the level. So I decided to be cheeky. Went back to the start, picked up that Invincibility Globe that was still around, then used my homing phase device and immediately went downstairs! Derp, watching the health percentage is a good idea when two-teamed by a Baron and Cacodemon. I kinda got absorbed in my Minigun barrage and the last time I looked I was on like 60%. That dissapeared much quicker than I realised!

Real shame, as I had a good thing going on with Casronn. Nevertheless, he'll be remembered for several firsts!

First time I've got the Backpack~ clearing the Wall using the peak and creep and cornershooting rather than spazzing rockets as I did the very first time I cleared it (and yes, I nuked the rewards that first time- was like 'all that and I just get 3 rockets!? WTF!').

First time I figured out the correct strategy to take out the Arena Master on Unchained Court~ grab berserk, chainsaw, and ignore the Formers entirely to just straight charge at him and rip him to shreds. This really works (I just did it successfully on HNTR difficulty too just now- then died at the Anomoly but oh well). Since the Formers only barely chip you, its fine and dandy to this. It just takes balls (and 1 medikit), I guess.

First time clearing the Spider Lair. By going toe to toe with the swines, at that! This was because there was an Invincibility globe close to the stairs to the Lair, though, made it a bit of cakewalk.

First time using Ammochain. I really like it, despite the 'AND HOW?' connotations of firing 7 shots from 1 bullet. I found a Minigun lying around and that was pretty rocking in conjunction with the Plasma Rifle. What's best about it is having a Chaingun that can fire 40 times for (6d6 + 12) before reloading. And a Minigun fires 1600 rounds per reload... 0_o'

Finally, figuring out the best way to dodge the cyberdemon: actually looking and watching for him to reload his missile gun~ first time I defeated him I had Dodgemaster but got hit alot more (wasting medpacks) because I didn't really pay attention and fired during all the wrong gaps.

Hello everyone. I've just recently got into Doom RL a week ago. I've previously played a fair bit of Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup (only ever had 1 win with that though! I'm not exactly amazing), wanted a slight break from that, and realised DoomRL has tiles (sorry, I'm allergic to console!), so I figured why not give it a shot?

Anyway, spent a few deaths finding my feet on ITYTD, switched over to HNTR, and here's my first significant progress, a Gun Kata Scout. Hopefully any present masters will give me some further advice!

This was my first Cyberdemon killing character~ thankyou dodgemaster and BFG9000. Glad I hoarded cells ready for him this time; but this may have led to my later downfall, since, as a result, I probably hadn't packed enough 10mm for hell.

First level of Hell spawned me right in the middle of three barons and 4 demons. Used a phase device and it put me one space to the left. Raged, used another one to get away. Later, a switch did a lava flood of the level, and there went the only remaining homing phase device. (le sigh)

Also, very annoyingly, the last two levels didn't generate a SINGLE clip of 10mm. The 300 or so bullets I brought to Hell was soon depleted. Therefore, I was forced to pick up a Double Shotgun to survive. Sadly, I then met a Mancubus at the end of a corridor.

Nevertheless, Speedloader Pistols are a godsend; and when Gun Kata happened it was awesome. Never got to use the Grammaton, since I had just its starting clip of ammo at that point.

Just about getting used to cornershooting for the first time with this guy as well~ killed a few things this way.

In case you were interested, the guy who nuked himself went to the halls of carnage and didn't realise he needed a rocket launcher to escape. Lulz.

Also, some Questions:
1. It seems that ITYTD provides less overall XP; so when you get the big bads you're not likely to be able to take it without great equipment luck. This intentional?

2. Recently, I've never done the final stage of the Arena entirely because of Arenamaster spawning on Chained Court later. How are you supposed to even think of taking out an Archvile at that stage, not to mention a stronger than usual one? Of course, it was due to this I couldn't do the Wall. Perhaps I should do the final round, skip Chained Court, and instead do the Wall? What do you guys do?

3. Does dodging work at all vs. Mancubuses? He seemed to hit me alot!

4. On HNTR difficulty, is there any way to do the start of Phobos Anomaly WITHOUT needing a Phase Device? I've tried the tip of ensuring I've got RUN MODE active, but even then the Lost Souls manage two spaces towards you and it doesn't look plausible to make a run for it. To be fair I've had a Double Shotty character with Shottyman survive there, barely, but its harsh on anyone else.

5. Does Intuition ONLY see at the edges of view, or does it also work on anything you can't see? i.e. can it be used to help you cornershoot?
