Discussion / Halp, my sharpshooters keep dying!

After taking a break cause exams were comming, i decided to give the Sharpshooter another try. I've had to fight strongly against my hoarding instincs in my UV sharpsooter runs. Yesterday they took a victim that was almost a win, cause i tried to save one large medkit (and also cause i was using that shield armor, and when you kill the cyberdemon the bastard doenst let you prepare for the next floor), but that didnt anger me, cause i took a bad tactical decision. I've died a million and 1 times trying this build, and i plan to die one million and 1 more until i master it. Its all fun. BUT, i still need to learn, and UV doesnt lend itself easily for experimentation.

For context, i usually go SoG->SoG->SoG->EE->EE->WK->EE->MSs->Int->Int (by usually i mean the 2 times i've actually gotten sharpshooter in UV) with the WK mostly being after MSs, but in rare ocasions like this one entering earlier cause i had all the mods for stormbolt and i needed a strong single target weapon quickly.

So, a few questions:
- Only found the combat pistol once in UV. Just bad luck? Where should it start spawning?
- I tend to use plasma riffles against shamblers, are they better or worse than a Storm pistol? And with a single technical mod?
- When do you get rid of your tactical shotgun? (i ALWAYS build one) I usually do around city of skulls (wich i usually dont do, since i always seem to end up behind in resources).
- I ALWAYS do hells armory, specifically cause i wouldnt know how to kill the bruiser brothers without the rocket launcher and the extra experience is very nice early on. The blue armor deosnt hurt either. I usually spend 1-3 medkits in there. However, ive heard that the Chained court is much easier otherwise, and it tends to be one of my problem levels. So, Pros-Cons?
- Im starting to hate radar shooting (not really). It almost always causes humanoids to spend medkits i could have gotten otherwise. Also frequently blows up barrels wich destroy other items. Am i using it too much? Is the only other alternative run-wait?
- Sometimes when i run wait mobs shoot at me. Usually near closed doors. Is it location dependant? Any advice on how to prevent it?
- What do you build for Sharpshooter?

I usually go:
* Tactical Shottie
* Maybe a microlauncher
* Stormbolt
* Tactical boots
* B+P Red armor if i have them. In that order, i wont P a red armor without B unless im swimming in Ps or red armors.
* Hyperblaster
* Energy pistol

I've usually aimed at stormbolt, since i had a stormbolt combat pistol in my previous Sharpshooter win (HMP) and it was amazing, but the normal Storm pistol doent cause knockback, so i've been thinking of simply modding a normal pistol with power mods and abuse knockback instead.

Post Mortem / [YASD] Damn UV Sharpshooter

I've died a million and 1 times trying this build, and i plan to die one million and 1 more until i master it. Its all fun. But deaths like this one anger me. This run started really strong, finding a combat shotgun in lvl 2 and having enough mods to turn it into a tactical immediately after the (un)chained court. At the start of military base i had a storm pistol, and at the end i had sharpshooter online, wich is a rarity in my games. I breezed trhough the bruiser brothers, and then came hells armory. I had a BP Red armor, and i cleared most of the floor easily. I reached the switch, and after preparing for the incoming battle i defeated the shambler with 14% left. So, happy about my victory, i go for the loot and the supercharge to replenish my health... keeping 4 (left) pressed. A former commando i had missed shows up and gets what i think were 2 rounds of shots on me, might have been one, and BAM, GG. I should have known, i keep close watch on the corner color, but boss levels have that feeling of "ok, im done" when you kill them. Now i had only one medkit left, but i was swiming in mods and would have been swimming in some more after looting hells armory, so i would have probably made it to the end.

Now, i wasnt particularly lucky on this run, i mean the best stuff was an onyx mod and a nano (first time i ever found a nano), but the nano i found in the middle of a level, outside of any vaults or anything. Last game i had made it to the halls of carnage and i also ran into an onyx mod in the middle of nowhere. Thats something that didnt ever happen in my easier games. Now i did have some luck, and that luck was named minigun. That with a nano allowed me to conserve ammo in silly ammounts. Still, i could have easily won without it, but it made the endgame very comfortable, just see anything and fill it with lead, then wait for the ammo to refill a bit. I just wish i had grabbed the

when it spawned. In previous games i had seen lots of them, so i guessed they were kind of common, but aparently they aint, since i only saw one in the game and thus was unable to get a complete victory. Anyway, heres the morgue =D.

Discussion / Nightmare demons, how to deal with them?

I ran into these nasties in the phobos lab (Now im 100% sure i like the base better), and i was unable to kill a sinlge one. In my first encounter it was in the small cave, where i expected to melt norml pikies with my combat shotgun, but things went badly and i teleported. The next one i saw killed me. Knockback seemed to happen only rarely, and even when corner shooting one at max range (cateye max range) with a combat shotgun i didnt manage to get him beyond scratched until he was eating my face (not a native english speaker, so if thats a double-entendre please ignore). I could have used the rocket launcher (im pretty sure i will next time, IF i enter that damned place again), but is there a normal way to kill them? Specially if you run into them at close range (it was ignorance tho, expecting pikies, next time it shouldnt happen). Now, maybe it is the lack of a "pain" sound effect, but it seemed my chaingun was barely hurting the things. So... anyway, i had SoBx2 THx1 and an A-modded chaingun, and it seemed to fare poorly.

Also, this is the first nightmare something i meet in UV, the furthest i've reached was the halls of carnage, where the lava speed got me (another nasty surprise), so i must ask if i will be meeting another nightmare thingies and if they are as nasty as these. If so, and the answer is just "nuke them from orbit", i will take out the rocket launcher and do as told.

Discussion / Good builds and tips for ultra-violence

Well, since i already finished HMP with 3 of the 4 main builds (still havent done melee), I've been trying to play in ultra violence. Thing is, its really damn violent. It might be my fixation on doing the arena and the chained court, but i havent been able to survive past floor 5 or go beyond 5th level. I have been radar-shooting like a madman, but while it helps it doesnt do magic. I think ive only finished the court twice, and one of those was thanks to an early plasma shotgun. I quickly died on the next floor due to mistakingly activating the damn Arena Masters staff instead of a medkit (I dont remember anytime where that staff has served me outside the vaults), but that fact doesnt alleviate my propensity to being against the ropes way too frecuently. Im currently using a scout with a burst build. Since im using shotguns so much on the early game i go SoB SoB EE TH Int CE, instead of going SoB EE SoB, to incease the damage of the shotgun early on. Anyway, any and all advice is welcome on all fronts. Im willing of course to try different builds of all kinds, whatever works for you, and the more detail you give the more ill be able to learn.

Discussion / Advice for pistol builds requested

So, i won a burst scout today, reached Mt Erebus with a fireangel (lesson learned: explosions may not hurt you, but the lava they throw you in does) and... died repeatedly before even reaching the bruiser brothers with a pistol technician. I havent even been able to get the master trait yet, early survival is pretty hard. Im going Sog, Sog, Sog, EE, EE, EE, or at least thats the plan, i have survived to lvl 5 at most. So, advice? Im tempted to not use the pistol for a while, relying on the goodwill of the chaingun and the shotgun, but without any kind of support, those weapons dont cut it either. I mean, math tells me the pistol is straight out better thn the chaingun with SoG 3, and even with SoG 2 considering the accuracy, but it feels underpowered. So, general and particular advice welcome.

Stuff like "dont use the technician" would welcome some explanation, btw. And lowering the difficulty is out of the question, HMP feels right for me.

Bug Reports / Trapped in Mt Erebus

So, I used a phase device to avoid the lava, and i got teleported inside the mount. Already tried the BFG, it cant bring down the walls. Now maybe im mistaken and its intended, but it was my understanding that a "No teleport into" flag exists and is used in vaults, so im guessing you forgot to apply it? Also, this would be the farthest ive made it in a game (except in HNTR, wich was way to easy). But as far as i know, the game doesnt make savefiles. So, is there any way in wich you could restore my game without a proper savefile? Or am i screwed?

PS: I suck at reading your captchas, i fail at least once before succeeding.
