Recently there was a discussion on the #DoomRL IRC channel, wether we should move to WorldIRC network (currently we are on quakenet). The reason behind this is that the majority of roguelike channels are on WorldIRC anyway (#tome, #angband, #bay12games, #rgrd). So we decided to make a poll!
I especialy would like to know if there are people that:
* visit the channel but won't, once it moves
* didn't visit the channel, but will visit the channel if it moves
If you don't care about IRC anyway, please don't vote. But please all post your comments if you have them :).

LIke I said on IRC: I won't argue the positive points of moving but I won't be moving myself.
-
No real opinion - it doesn't matter to me where the chanell is - if it helps get it more lively I might even start appearing :P

The majority of the roguelike channels are on WorldIRC? That's bullshit!
If your "roguelike channel" means all channels that have something to do with the roguelike genre, you don't seem to know the amount of roguelike channels on IRC. Check the QuakeNet's roguelike channels for example, there are roguelike channels there. Then check a few popular servers more. You'll see that there are many large and active channels scattered across IRC. It's not just WorldIRC. Who likes Angband and its successors anyway. (The last sentence is not a flame bait, don't eat it!)
I'd like to hear some good reasons before moving. Is there something on WorldIRC that QuakeNet can't provide? Of course moving is a good thing for those who hang on WorldIRC, but there are those who don't want to add new servers to their favorites. I know I didn't want it before #RGRD, but I couldn't change that.
I guess I'd keep visiting #DoomRL even if it moves, but I don't see it as a positive thing. Maybe I'd boycott it for a while if you can't think any good reasons to move. I didn't like adding a new server to my favorites when #RGRD was formed, WorldIRC, yuck. Who suggested this anyway?

I'll roast you next time you'll dare to appear on IRC!! :P

It was Kornel who first thought up the idea, actually.

I don't really care what server i go to.. soif there needs to be a change, go ahead.
-
I'll go where the server goes.

I don't know if this is the place to put it, but I don't know how to connect to quakenet. I'm a IRC noob, and it tells me something about opening ports:
As a preventative measure against abuse, all users from *.rima-tde.net are now required to run ident (and have port 113 open). This is due to an increased amount of abuse from this host..
What should I do to connect?

I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with yet another server tab on my Xchat. I already got four and only chat in two.

* Adral raises his hands. Adral chants. Adral chants. Adral chants. A large flame engulfes the thread! The thread is resurrected!
Well, since quakenet decided to ban me because I connect from Spain and our ISPs are shit and after a month I'm still banned, I guess I'd like to see this channel elsewhere, just to have a chance to connect from time to time.
If you aren't going to move, it's fine - you won't probably miss me much :P.

Well, actually it was a sarcastic commentary because I connected only 2 or 3 days before they hit me with the ban-cannon without any hint that they were going to do that . I didn't mean to sound like a drama queen. :P
Edit: Emphasizing :P

Do you know wether they banned your ip specifically, or just the whole ip range? If they just banned you, get a new ip, and run that identd server they require (mIRC has one built-in).

First of all, thanks for trying to help.
They have banned almost the whole ip range of Spain. Just because. They say they've received "abuse" from this host "before", so just in case, Exterminatus for my country. Quakenet wins!
Also, my ISP provides a static ip, so I can't change it anyway.

How about using a proxy? And if that doesn't work, please contact me.

I don't know how to set up a proxy properly :/ also I don't know how to open ports on my router.
Thank you for your help, but I think I'll just pass on connecting on Quakenet. If they weren't so stupid, I'll think about it, but having to go complete the 12 Glorious Quests for Immortality to connect to an IRC server just because seems like moderation abuse to me.
