Title: PM system is broken
Post by: Malek Deneith on September 11, 2013, 07:47
/me walks in, takes out a hammer and hammers in a nail in the wall. On that nail he hangs a sign with text written on it in what seems to be blood of some unfortunate small animal

The ability to send forum PMs is broken. We captured and hold Guts/Gattsu hostage. Fix the PM system or we'll have him deported to be a protagonist in a generic, low budget harem anime.

/me ponders for a moment then nail a smaller parchment to the sign

Well it *didn't* work when I posted the above, I made sure to check. And I was getting the error since yesterday. Right now it does seem fixed - either KK saw the post and stealth-fixed it or it was something server-side and they happened to fix it, but it was broke before. Sure as sure.

Considering the fact that you'll be DMing me soon, all I can say is "Yep. Stealth-fix. Obviously." ;)

I've been getting that error periodically when posting normally.  If I posted more often I'd be really annoyed by it.

I have the same problem every now and then, and I definitely post more than /me copies and pastes
 yaflhdztioxo.

I usually refresh and it gets through.  I've heard that clearing your cookies/cache may help, but could just be some voodoo.

Edit: Aaand it just happened for this post.

This thing keeps on happening. I think I saw it three times in span of last week. Yes, refreshing helps but it'd be nice to see it fixed... do I need to form a mob of people with torches and pitchforks and knock on rimmon's door? (or door of whatever person inherited the role of maintenance-guy if he doesn't have it anymore)

Ever since I use waterfox, I get that 403 on the entire forum. I think it's some sort of a spam protection thing. The solution is to change your user agent string to something that is whitelisted, such as...

Code: [Select]
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:25.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/25.0
In the case of firefox you can change that somewhere in about:config.

(dunno if this post will be useful since it only happens occasionally for you... but these are my 2 millibitcoins anyway)

Eh, we probably need to rouse a mob for this.

Spam situation isn't getting better either.  Two massive spammers got through the net and I spent a nice amount of time removing all their !@#$% posts.

Is it possible to configure the forum or some plugin to have it show captchas for new untrusted users who have < x posts?

Maybe but I'm not going to attempt it as 1. I probably have no clue what I am doing and will fumble  2. we have a sys-admin already and I would be trampling on his responsibilities.
