Requests For Features / Re: Rank requirements
« on: November 11, 2008, 03:29 »
How about some weirder, sillier requirements along the way?

* Destroy 100,000 barrels.
* Kill 1 Baron...with your fists.
* Kill 1 Archvile...with the combat knife.
* Kill 1 Cyberdemon...with the chainsaw.
* Kill 7 enemies with one shot.
* Use 3,000 levers.
* Reach level 19 in 10 games.
* Reach level 20.

...and so on.

Destroying 100.000 barrels, use 3.000 levers, and other requirements not related with KILLING: If you haven't realized, all the rank requirements are set around killing different amounts of different kinds of enemies, in some way or another, so these requirements don't fit.

Kill 7 enemies with one shot: Oh, too easy! Even I can kill 7 enemies in a single shot! By the time I reach the level with the Lost Soul rush, I already have gotten the first BFG9K.

Kill 1 Baron with your fists, kill 1 arch-vile with the combat knife, kill Cybie with the chainsaw: Now we're talking. Although, let me tell you, someone who has managed to kill the Angel of Death in the unholy cathedral will already have enough training to attain these challenges more or less easily. The Angel has a shit-ton of HP, more than Cybie, AND you have to take him out in melee in order to retrieve the Spear of Destiny. Therefore, we need some flavour of this requirement that proves to be a challenge, but still is out of the threshold of absurdity.

Immortality? In DoomRL? HERESY!!!

Seriously, Challenges are supposed to be challenges, not super-easy walks by the park where you unload your frustration on the demons while you don't take damage.

Off Topic / Re: Where did everybody go?

I have been busy obtaining BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD AND SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!

Also, watching Soul Eater, playing Warhammer 40K and Exalted... The usual for a freaky. :P

Berserk! / Re: Should/will there be sound in the final version?

Forces shall make it to the intro screen of the game. It is just too awesome to be let aside. *nodnod*

40K RL? Now THAT would be awesome! I think there was one on the net with Imperium and Orks fighting indoors in an abandoned tower in a forsaken planet, but I can't remember well.

If Kornel, or someone else, makes a 40K Roguelike, he/she must add the possibility as playing as a servant of Chaos, or he/she will be killed by my hand! BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!!

Hmm, so XCOM Roguelike... Now THAT is something I would like to see.

Playing as "Evil" would be pretty cool. Didn't exactly picture it like that though, lol. A mech would be somewhat out of place.
I'd hate to waste rockets just to widen the doors I couldn't fit through...

Actually, he meant that the final enemy of the evil path, not you, shall be riding some sort of mech armour, you know, like the boss of the Predator path in AvP2. You, the Champion of Hell, would still have to fight on foot. :P

AliensRL / Re: On some ideas etc.
« on: July 01, 2008, 16:34 »
Oops! Sorry for misunderstanding your complain on the Elite/Praetorian. I thought you meant it was, simply, capable of surviving a direct RPG hit, but still took damage, instead of being completely unscathed. If it goes out of it without taking a single wound, then it is obvious you have encountered a nasty glitch.

1. The idea of adding a middle term Heavy Weapon Armor is actually nice. Would help making the game less hell.

2. Well... Have you tried entering look mode to check which is which?

3. Instant Reload? Come on! No matter how fast you can reload! You will always spend a little time changing the clips! And those beasts are supposed to be really FAST, anyways.

4. Yeah, RPGs are supposed to hurt... And I agree that the blast radius should probably do a bit more damage. But the Elite/Praetorian surviving a direct hit is actually not as insane as you think. Those guys are EXTREMELY HEAVILY ARMORED, you know.

5. Well, scouts are mostly used to quick movement and retreat, as they have to run quickly to explore the surroundings, then reporting back to the superior. In this game, the scout is based on quick movements. If you want fast reload, you shall pick the technician.

6. Nice try... But, what does Turok have to do with Aliens?

Discussion / Re: Angel of Purity overboard

Still, they are things you have to take from the ground, and you shouldn't grab things from the ground (EXCEPT WEAPONS, WHICH CLEANSE IMPURITY BY THEMSELVES!) if you wanna remain pure.

Plus... Come ON! Challenges are supposed to be that! Challenges!

42
Wow... Just... Wow.

The idea of doing the "Evil path" is certainly seducing. Being in the other side of the conflict can prove to be an amazing point of view.

It is obvious that we all here think the true meat and potatoes of Doom is the single player mode.

44
I see what you have done there, pal. It may be complex to add, but it may add a lot more ways to make you yell in desperation. I like it!

45
Heh! Walls you can shoot through, but not pass through, were actually present in DOOM. They were called 'Iron Bars'. :P

But the idea of walls you can pass, but not shoot at... THAT is weird! Perhaps they have some kind of hellish enchantment? Maybe they are walls of hellfire? But in that case, shouldn't crossing them damage you?
