Title: You've just gained some free publicity
Post by: Sum Gai on August 24, 2013, 03:44
Check it out, I wrote a an article for Cracked featuring my some of my favorite Indi games, and they finally posted it (or what was left of it after editorial ran it through a grinder then added actual humor to what was left)

Check it out

Very nice!  I was wondering if it was one of the Forumites who did the writing -- and I was right!

Brownie points to you for the write-up.  =)

"Infinite game?"  "Dual-wielding chainsaws?"

Are these upcoming new features or just wishful thinking?  :)

I don't know... KK isn't really paying much attention to the DoomRL code base these days, so it is possible that we slip some things in without him knowing or something.

Uh, what is Malicious Blades for if it's not for dual-wielding chainsaws?

Actually it's for dual-wielding knives.

Blades.

Pretty sure the chainsaw counts as a blade, though I'll admit I've not tested it. Dragonslayer and the Butcher's Cleaver are though, it'd seem pretty weird if it wasn't.

I'm telling you, it is for knives.  And Chainsaws are not knives.

The Dragonslayer doesn't quite count because I don't think it is possible to dual wield it with anything else.

Having played a game just to check only to find that you are in fact right, I feel kinda stupid.

Nah that's fine.  Everyone makes mistakes here and there.  No big deal.

Wow, that article alone netted over 5k new DoomRL downloads over the last two days. Thank you Sum Gai!

I've never wielded Dragonslayer, but I would assume that if you have the Malicious Blades trait, you just have to have a knife in the prepared slot to dual-wield them.  Why would that be impossible?  Or is this somehow related to something I don't know about the Dragonslayer?  (Probably)  :P

Can't you dual-wield chainswords?

Yes, you can. But to my knowleadge, chainsword still counts as knife since it is assembled from it.

Yeah, editorial stuck the 'dual-wielding chainsaws' line in after I gave them the article. They also trimmed it down to about half it's original size.

If I remember right, you can wield a chainsaw and a knife (or chainsword), because Malicious Knives only requires the off-hand weapon to be a knife. So it's almost, but not quite, possible.
