Well, I haven't had a lot of free time lately, but here's my best attempt at this game so far. After many games in which I mostly only got to level 1 or 2, I managed to get all the way to level 7 and got into the Main tower. :D (I'm guessing that the Queen would be in the top level of the Main tower) The Heavy Weapon specialist definitely seems to have an advantage over the other classes, since having that extra weapon really helps with ammo troubles. (are there even any other heavy weapons besides the HK MG4? I didn't find any)
In the end, I think my problem was that I tried to advance too quickly into the tower and got overwhelmed. (The Praetorian would have been difficult enough to deal with on its own without the other aliens accompanying it; I would have preferred to take them on one at a time) I had a few primary weapons at that point (combat shotgun, 1894 rifle, and M41A pulse rifle; I hope I'm remembering those names correctly) that I had dropped by the entrance of the tower, because I was still making up my mind which one to bring with me. I had the combat shotgun at the time because the spread seemed best for dealing with the groups of aliens attacking me, but the armour-piercing effects of the pulse rifle probably would have been better for dealing with the Praetorian. Oh well...
I really like the atmosphere that this game creates and I look forward to seeing new versions in the future. :)

Ooo... Tormuse takes on AliensRL! This wlil be an interesting thing to watch for. =)
I agree with you regarding the atmosphere. Sound clues are still not fully exploited yet, so at this point it is still relatively straightforward to play. If Kornel can get "3D sound" working, I think this can/will have more depth to the strategic and tactical choices as compared to good ol' DoomRL.
Oh, the architecture is lovely too. The glass windows really make a difference. See if you think that the number of glass windows in the rooms is excessive...

I don't know how 3D sound would work, but it sounds interesting. :)

Naw, I don't think they're excessive... but I do have to mention that I had a funny, face-palming moment in the Military tower where, after I used a security key, I discovered that the room had a back door I overlooked that was all glass. :P

Noises start to be more and more important in AliensRL, though it is still the beginning, I believe.
And there are more materials than glass (and reinforced glass), just maybe they are not used so often, yet.
The game packs quite many heavy weapons (Super Flamethrower - called Flamethrower here, Smartgun, SADAR - my favourite - called RPG there).
However, most of them are quite rare (e.g. I have found only one Flamethrower so far, during BETA testing - as opposed to napalm ammo, which is quite popular; Smartgun is also a rare sight).
H&K MG4 is "ok" weapon with trained skill.

It is quite alright atm. Maybe we just need even more layout variety and different materials (paper & plaster, wooden, plastic, etc).
