Discussion / GearHead problems again
« on: December 17, 2014, 19:37 »
Once again, the GearHead website (which is run on a Chaosforge host) is having troubles.

It's very slow.  Particularly the main blog page, which may not come up at all.  The forum is readable, but will not allow logins (it says "You should fill in a username", but I did.).

I think the SEO spammers broke in again, but this time they literally broke the site rather than quietly infecting it.

Discussion / GearHead is down
« on: January 23, 2014, 00:44 »
Early this month, the GearHead site (gearheadrpg.com) went down.  It's currently showing a hosting company page.

I contacted Joseph Hewitt about it, and he said those pages are still handled by Chaosforge.  So it's an issue here.

Forum / Signup problem over on the GH forums
« on: January 20, 2007, 02:20 »
Hi.  Just recently I tried to signup for the Gearhead forums.  It didn't quite work -- there's now a "Michael" account in the list, but I can't access it because it wants a password to login and didn't let me enter one during signup.

I figured it was going to send a password via e-mail.  So I waited a bit.  And waited a bit more.  No e-mail.

So then I called up the rejection logfiles from my e-mail server -- and I think I found the message.  It was in the box190.bluehost.com domain and was blocked because my anti-spam system suspected that it was a made-up address (there are no MX records for box190.bluehost.com).

I could just try again after whitelisting *.bluehost.com (which I've done), but now the name "Michael" is permanently taken.

The system should really be fixed so that accounts aren't truly created until any such verification e-mail is acknowledged.  Otherwise, mail screwups like this only create useless accounts to which no one knows the password.

Bug Reports / Crash in Hell's Arena
« on: December 29, 2006, 01:47 »
On 0.9.8.5 with sound for Windows XP:

On my fourth play of the game, I experienced a crash in Hell's Arena.

After one of the "do you want to continue the challenge?" prompts (I think it was the second one, but I'm not sure ATM), I first noticed that some 10mm ammo appeared on the floor even though the battle was still in progress.  Almost immediately after, the game crashed:

ERangeError : Range check error
$004495A5  TBEING__CALL,  line 743 of dfbeing.pas
$0043E029  TLEVEL__TICK,  line 544 of dflevel.pas
$00403C82  TDOOM__RUN,  line 266 of doombase.pas
$00401097  main,  line 21 of doomrl.pas

It then saved a game, which put me back at the start of the second level, but with the powerups I was carrying at the crash.  I visited the Arena again, this time completing it with no crash.  However, I did notice some minor prizes, including a chaingun, appearing before the battle was finished.
