When you choose to play AoM (a challenge game, hence it is challenging) on UV (the second to hardest difficulty level), some tough situations will arise :) You can't expect every such situation to always be reasonably winnable, considering levels are randomly generated - RNG can be cruel, yeah.
Your best approach in this specific situation is likely to be avoidance, at the cost of a 100% game. You can't expect a 100% game to be the norm when playing these difficulties.

That said, be fair: if you're going to complain about AVs not being as convenient as they were in Doom, complain about the skills, the weapon mods and the unique weapons (that balance things out and make things easier for you, where tougher Viles make them harder), too ;) :)

Do magazine mods work on SGs? I thought they didn't work on single shot weapons, as I tried using one on a rocket launcher.
Oh, yeah, accuracy *and magazine* mods can't be used in SGs. My bad.
That leaves damage, reload and speed mods. That's 5 mods and a max of 12 mod slots.
I haven't been keeping track of the details lately, and many keep skipping my mind :)

So, is this one a point in favor of "leave shotguns as they are"? :)

Why'd you take WK as your last trait when you hadn't any advanced weapon? From all I've read (I don't play shotties much, so there's little to say from personal experience), I'm led to believe that a 3rd point in HR would have done much better, especially if spent earlier (probably all 3 ranks put in before TaN, which is good but inferior to HR in this case).

3, I believe, as I'm quite certain I remember you can max out all 4 mod types on an advanced non-SG (which iirc can't use accuracy mods), by maxing WK and getting 12 mod slots per weapon.

Took me a while to figure it out... :)

Anyway, in the past I suggested that there would be 2-3 different classes of levers, each with different beneficial, neutral and dangerous effects. That way you could gamble safely on lower tier levers even without ranks in Intuition. Right now levers are most often not worthwhile past the early stages of the game, which wastes them as a feature.

I'm a chaingun person myself, but I've read plenty of posts by people who're content or more with the way shotguns work now, so I'm guessing it's more a matter of playing style and your own habits than it is a matter of shotguns being inferior.
Read and test what experienced shotgunners write before you judge by your own strategies.

Don't expect the same trait path to be good with all weapons - it's a matter of character specialization. You naturally don't expect an AoB char to use that same Assault Rifle, and you get bummed out when you find one. You should feel mostly the same when your EE*3 char finds it - bummed, but accept that's how it works when you choose to play a certain way.
If you're cunning, however, and aren't playing AoB/Mr, you could use it well for backup using the Juggler trait I love so very, very much (keep it in secondary, and access any numbered weapon only through primary).

Oh, you could have likely ripped "him" thoroughly apart :)
But no biggie - you'll have more chances to do that. Though less... convenient chances, I reckon :P
Good game :)

I suggest jumping into higher difficulty levels. HMP and UV have a good blend of difficulty and rhythm, the kind of balance that allows a player to get more out of himself than he'd expect.
I feel lower difficulty levels make me more prone to making stupid mistakes, the lack of action leading to me paying less attention.

Good job, never mind the shitty ending :)

Try HR or SoaB instead of IM. You already have many defensive traits, so an increase to offensive is more useful, and HR can help outmaneuver most monsters when you have CE to support it - much better than more [almost temp] HPs, IMHO.
