First Ultra-Violence Ao100 win, mostly smooth sailing after ~level 10.

Unique pistols are great to find on Ao100, since you get enough experience to level both Son of a Bitch and Son of a Gun.  +6 damage per bullet and a 0.28s fire time made the Grammaton a go-to gun when something needed to die immediately.  Grammaton also is affected by Triggerhappy when in burst or auto mode, which has perks and drawbacks.  Also allows a nice split between 10mm ammo, rockets, and cells.

Beginning Ao100 runs is the most difficult part, since poor luck with the RNG can mean spawning in a room of lost souls or demons and dying before you can move.  Likewise, the probability of an exotic is very low in the first 15 levels, and it's a rare run indeed that grants uniques as well before Phobos Hell.  Seeing a Missile Launcher on level 13 was very nice indeed, and saw constant use all the way to 100.

Honestly, the most fortunate spawn to get on a non-Ammochain build is a Nuclear Plasma Rifle, and the RNG graced me with two.  On UV it's a guaranteed 4-6 arch-viles per level, every level, except for caves.  Sheer number of respawns can be overwhelming.  Pain Elemental caves are extremely scary when limited by ammo, but managable with ammo regen.  Arachnotron caves in general are also easy with Cateye -- two volleys per Arach print plasma ammo like candy.  Hung onto the vanilla Plasma Rifle for the moments 24 Nuclear shots weren't enough.

Level 91 was a very special Arachnotron cave, though, spawned right in the middle of 20 or so, chewed right through a suit of Phaseshift armor and all my medkits and phase devices.  Lucked out with my last homing phase, putting me just out of sight of the hordes of As with 6% health.  Level 92 had an invulnerability globe, which gave enough of a boost to get restocked and back in the groove.  Lost the YAAM, but got the win, which I'll take any day.

Railgun's nice if you have the line of sight, but most maps are too clustered to get clean shots off, and the shots take too darn long compared to plasma rifles/pistols.  Same with the Minigun - it's better as a 10mm backpack than an offensive weapon.

Firestorm packs still work on Double and Super Shotguns; too bad I didn't find more Power Mods to fully trick out the Super Shotgun I had.  (10d4)x5 isn't too shabby.

"It's humid in here" level feelings wound up being like Christmas in July; water everywhere means no revives from Viles, very handy.  Intuition(2) made using those levers easy as pie.

Though, 100 levels and there was exactly one time a (Kill Monster) lever was in a room I was in and monsters were in, and I didn't examine the lever until after killing the Bruiser Brother.  That's a longer shot than any unique, I'd say.  :D

It took many, many YASDs before level 20, but a Ao100 run finally got going under 0.9.9.1.   At first I was apprehensive about the replacement of advanced weapons by exotics, but this run sold me on the new version.

Apparently exotic drop rates are very low in Phobos Base, but once in Phobos Hell, they show up about every 4-5 levels.  Since 85 levels in Ao100 are in Phobos Hell, I found more exotics than I could dream of using, including three full sets of Phaseshift and Gothic armor apiece and five Miniguns.

Whizkid's bonus slots apply to exotics just like normal weapons, so they can take five mods with two levels in Whizkid.  This leads to some seriously powerful gear, like a (12d4)x3 Super Shotgun.

Phaseshift Armor is now my new favorite armor -- modded, it hits 4 protection, and it lets you float over damage tiles.  I don't know if it's a bug that it lets you float over lava without needing the boots, but alone or with the boots, not having to worry about lava was very relaxing.  The armor is fragile, though: I went through three sets before having the foresight to just bulk mod a set.  You can Agility Mod both the armor and the boots for even more move speed; I was up to 0.37s/move by the end.

Minigun buff is very nice, leading to higher DPS than Plasma Rifles on some targets, especially with a full chainfire.  There is a cap on the magazine size after only one bulk mod; looks like no weapon can carry more than 255 bullets.  I didn't mind, since it was a space-efficient way to store 10mm ammo since Backpack wasn't available.

As for the run itself, it became very straightforward once Cateye was in full effect with Intuition(2).  Intuition(2) is essentially a wallhack, and there was no reason to ever have a straight fight with more than one or two enemies at a time now that each of their locations were revealed.  Even the new guest enemies show up as red dots, even though they don't make noise, removing some of the shock factor.  Levels became about how to punch out Arch-Viles before they got too entrenched in messes of Revenants and Mancubi.  The Railgun made things even easier, as entire lines would pop in two shots.  Technical mods and Finesse(2) were crucial, though.  Even with that, Railgun shots took 0.9s, which was agonizingly slow compared to a 0.49s Laser Rifle / Nuclear Plasma Rifle.

I'm of the mind that in an Ao100 run, Cateye is much more valuable than Ammochain, as the intel gained far outweighs the free ammo.  Case in point, nuclear plasma rifle meant free killing left and right.  Also, with Cateye, Arachnotron caves become free plama cell vending machines, since each Arachnotron can be killed with 10-12 cells and drops 20.  Also, human sergeants and captains are spaced out about every five levels or so, for restocks on 10mm and shotgun ammo.  With a mix between all 4 ammo types (~200 10mm, ~100 shells, ~30 rockets, ~200 energy cell), there shouldn't ever be a reason to run out of ammo.

All in all, a much smoother run than anticipated, thanks to exotic firepower!

0.9.9 on an XP machine.  Had a maze level spawn with "Khe, he, he, this will be a mess" level feeling.  Began level while invulnerable, charged to middle, Baron of Hell acid blast detonates several barrels, crash to desktop with above message before next action.  Upon reload was unable to recreate the bug, as a normal level spawned and invulnerability ran out quickly.

Perks were SoB(2), EE(2), Intuition(2), Triggerhappy(1).

Requests For Features / Pause Button?

I know I've had other obligations pull me away from a game in the middle of a level, causing serious padding of the real time the game took.

Would a pause button be feasible, to stop the timer for a while when unable to save the game (either on N! or in the middle of a level)?

I don't know if that would negatively impact the time-based badges, maybe limit it to one or two pauses per level to prevent spamming to save time on the badge?

After dozens of attempts whiffing before level 10, was nice to finally get the ball rolling on a AoMC run.  Took a couple breaks before Arena, Wall, Mortuary, and JC, so the time's a little inflated.

Two major tipping points colored the gameplay: first being finding a plasma rifle, second being one too many power mods on it.

Plasma Rifles in AoMC with Triggerhappy(2) and Son of a Bitch(2) will one-shot anything short of an Arch-Vile.  This was good, and easily attainable without relying on the RNG.  The AdvTech pack was icing on the cake, along with the Firestorm pack enabling large-scale Vile slaughter.  Firing madly into the darkness was the name of the game.

However, apparently monsters get knocked back when they receive a solid hit of 12 damage.  This was achieved with two Power Mods and SoB(3) sometime around Level 6 Phobos Hell, giving me a (1d9+3)x(8+2) damage profile.  Things got much trickier when shooting at angles, since the first shot would push monsters out of the line of fire if they weren't against a wall.  I had a good laugh and worked around it, but Arachnotron caves were much more tense for a while.

No invulnerability near the Mortuary, but it was simple enough even with the knockback going on.  Firing into the center until everything stopped screaming was downright pleasant compared to my AoB or AoSh Mortuary runs.

Had some spare envirosuits and did the Lava Pits on level 23, got the Phasewalk Armor.  Normally that wouldn't be much of a find, but level 24 proved otherwise: two invulnerability globes by the exit to the Cyberdemon.  Slapped on the Phasewalk Armor for the move bonus, sprinted to the stairs as the nuke went off, got to JC with invulnerability remaining.  Didn't even have time to use the BFGs, the plasma rifle was too powerful.

Too bad about the remaining Barons, probably could've been a YAAM if I had a second nuke.  Still nice to get my first platinum, leaping me up to Major rank.  Still got a ways to go before shooting for Diamond, Iro(3) was very nice insurance.

Lesson Learned: Keep your Plasma Rifles under 12 damage for AoMC!  :)

First Angel of Berserk win ever, was continually surprised at how effective a melee build can get once it's fully rolling.  After dying a dozen times on level 2 or 3, finally being able to wield the Longinus Spear was a really nice feeling.  Wound up knocking out a couple more badges too, to get promoted to 1st Lieutenant and Baron of Hell.

Not sure who first mentioned it on the boards, but many thanks go out to whoever recommended hitting up the City of Skulls with the Vampyre trait.  The Berserk effect wound up lasting four whole levels and through the Unholy Cathedral as well.

Opening levels were very lucky with plenty of med-packs and few shotgunners, allowing for an Arena run.  Knife-throwing to detonate barrels was very useful.

Once I hit Phobos Hell, the RNG went into overdrive, spawning a Hell Staff, Railgun, and BFG10K in the same run.  I've never even SEEN the BFG10K before.  Did have fun in the Vaults.  The Hell Staff gave a shot at getting into the center Vault, where another unique weapon was destroyed by Baron splash before being ID'd.

Not sure what possessed me to do the Mortuary without any intitial invulnerability or berserk, but it was a barrel of laughs after taking two Arch-Viles down and running into the other fifty or so revived monsters inbetween the three other Viles.  Vampyre saved my skin, I can't imagine doing the Mortuary with Blademaster.  The Angelic Armor protection bonus with the Longinus Spear was a pleasant surprise, though.

Four armour shards before the Phobos Arena brought the Angelic Armor from 0% to full very conveniently, making the Cyberdemon not be able to really even scratch me.  Was sitting on a nuke in case of a potential full clear, but no invulnerability globe surfaced.

The two stragglers that keep the mortem from being a YAAM were two former Humans in the far corner of the Chained Court; left them there thinking I'd rather keep the momentum going on the triple berserk pack timer I'd ingested.  But for a first AoB run past level 15, I'm pleased with the results.

Windows version of 0.9.9, OS is Windows XP.

Was on level 8 Phobos Base, maze level, unique generated (Blaster).  Went to Inventory to switch from combat shotgun to Blaster and selected "Fire" towards a Lost Soul, and got this crash message.  First time the program's crashed on me.

Saved game, reloaded Level 8, got to keep the Blaster.

Crashed again when trying to fire Blaster at former human, exact same message.  Reload, hit "F" to fire with Blaster, same crash.  Switching back to shotgun lets me work normally.

Current savegame is still going, Blaster in inventory.
