I've read that shotgun builds are supposed to be hard, since the supply of shells in hell is a touch low, so this game felt way too easy. The only thing that almost killed me was overconfidence. I got a bit closer to death than I should have a couple of times just by running and gunning without watching my health. The mastermind also almost did me in - I was pretty sure going into the fight that it deals bullet damage - but the only reason it was able to hit me at all is because I just stood out in the open while raining damage on it. It's just pretty hard to feel threatened when your action speeds are all hovering around 0.20 seconds.
It helps that I wasn't depending solely on shells to do damage - I was making full use of all the rockets and cells I found (most of the latter got funnelled back out through a plasma shotgun). It also helps that the requirement traits for Shottyhead are all extremely useful in general. Juggler, finesse, reloader and hellrunner all serve to keep you alive. As a point of contrast, I've also been attempting sharpshooter builds lately. Eagle eye is significantly less important after the first point you put into it, and son of a gun is useless without a good pistol. This being the case, none of my sharpshooters have lived long enough to earn the master.
Back to the mortem: I skipped the Cathedral as I didn't bother to invest in brute, and I skipped the lava pits as no envirosuits were ever generated and I didn't feel like wading through lava without one. Also, I have no idea where I missed that one kill.

Much more impressive than my recent run, congratulations on your win! Looks like you had a lot of random stuff scattered about, I can never find more than usually 2 or 3 Special weaponry.

I found such a ludicrous number of exotic weapons I actually started to feel bad for leaving them behind. It's like the game was politely trying to offer me gifts and I had to keep saying, "Thanks, but I can only hold so many things in my backpack, I hope you can understand."
Let's see. Besides what I kept to the end of the game, and besides guaranteed drops, there was:
- the Grammaton Cleric Beretta
- an assault shotgun and two supers (these showed up too late to be really useful)
- two miniguns
- tristar blaster
- acid spitter
- a spare duelist armor

I'm fairly sure that the Mastermind does Plasma damage. With Duelist Armor, your best bet is to bait her to melee and put that 50% melee resist to work.

I agree about EE, but SoG is good even with basic Pistol. Moreover, it is SoG that makes the game acceptable.
Try to play AoMr without SoG and you will see :P .

Yeah, I was also finding so many mods that I was literally using weapons as dumping grounds for them. I even ended up dropping that fireproof armor and those tactical boots later on when I got enough mods and gear to replace them. Maybe it's luck rather than skill that got me through this game.
I think my problem with sharpshooter builds is that I actually leave putting points in SoG until I've already bought the rest of the traits I need. I suppose most people get SoG and use the pistol right away. I'm just not convinced that a pistol, even with SoG level 3, is better than that first chaingun.

I usually use shotgun until I get sharpshooter, though a chaingun is probably a good choice with EE. I'm not very good at using chainfiring weapons, though. Must be the lack of Angel of Chingunnery which would teach me to value them and use them.

It is the other way: basic chaingun needs EE (or two), otherwise you won't hit anything, unless it is at a point blank range.
AoMC is a good challenge for learning basics about chainfire.

AoMC is pretty much Angel of Chaingunnery. Sure, you could use other weapons, but the +12 accuracy and rolling max damage every single time really shine for rapidfire builds, making them proportionally much stronger.

Yeah, I know that, and I've already finished AoMC UV.
It didn't stick with me though. I should really train with chinguns a little more once I'm done with playing AoHu.

Then try AoLT. Ammochain Master Trait is a really good choice there.

Hmm.. I passed that with a melee build. I'll just try a standard MAC game. I'll get a hang of it eventually.

MAC (and shottyhead) games are good for training you to play without EE, if nothing else. You'll probably have to pass up the burst cannon for something more accurate.
