First full run with 0.9.9.7G , got my first diamond too, so many of the special levels were truly a surprise and a great new experience too.
Thank God they were not enough to destroy the run, got scared many times, but made it in the end with a bit of luck! :P

Tried the random name too for first time, can't say I loved the result but oh well. :P

It got dangerous in some of the normal but also special levels, but late game was truly a breeze with loads of nukes and inv. globes.
Loads of drops, medpacks, exotics and uniques too, with the Beretta medal being the tip of the iceberg I guess. ^^

Anyway here goes:

(yeah i Know it's almost 10 hours... I become real careful on such runs lol...)

I had tried to get Anomaly damageless with the cateye build a few times, but always something unexpected happened and I got hit, or the phase just failed to get me where I wanted it to.
This time I got lucky though, mainly with the Phase Device in the Anomaly and the fast kill of the two bruiser brothers with a tactical shotty. Got teleported next to the hellgate got a bit up with running and hid behind the pillar. One bruiser brother approached from the top. Easy corner-shooting and reloading with the tactical shotty. At some point while shooting him, the 2nd one seemed to be going the other side around. The pattern was unpredictable the way he was moving. Thankfully he changed his mind and went left again approaching from the same top where the other was. This was their biggest mistake. I just kept knockbacking both together with the same shrapnels over and over and over with cover obviously. After a while they just died. :)

After that (wall of text)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Tbh with the above exceptions after the hyperblaster with Firestorm mod and finally getting enough ammunition which was 100% filled in the easy mode-Vaults, the rest of the game was very very easy, a walk in the park actually. Especially when I got juggler too. I love this trait. I find it great for rapid-fire builds. :P

Limbo was nuked with INV while I got the nuclear BFG with a phase (!!), Mount Erebus was too easy by now with the Cyberdemon boots I had made, everything died with 1 or 2 hyperblaster shots. Found much stuff on late levels including a Medical Power Armor, a Blaster, gothic boots and even a Minigun, but honestly I needed nothing of those.

And even at Spider Mastermind I got an invulnerability from last level and walked up to him like a gentleman, emptied the beretta in 2 shots with TH on full automatic mode, emptied the hyperblaster and finally killed it with two BFG shots.

Beretta is srsly a BEAST, wish I had found it on my AoMr runs...

I did forget to keep a nuke for mastermind though, so it couldn't be a full win facing JC. Who cares though? :P

SORRY for the HUGE post I got carried away....DAMN...

PS : And to think this run was just for the UAC Gold in the beginning. I'm pretty sure this is by far the easiest Diamond btw. Others will require much better skills which I currently don't have.

A Trigun on level 2 on AoMr.

I am afraid you have used up all your available DoomRL luck in a single run.

Indeed haha. I only remember finding it in vaults, or some similar level near the 20s...
And obviously not on a AoMr run!

78
I think it UV and N! where it really starts counting...

Mainly yes because the armored opponents there are countless.
Not to mention that on recent UV runs I did I almost never find full armors since they are all picked up by barons/hell knights/formers when I begin a level.
(the levels are usually swarmed by creatures anyway you never have time to get the armors first unless extremely lucky)
But anyway you'll notice the difference mostly on bosses on the low diff. levels.

Discussion / Re: Does anyone got a Iron Scull?
« on: March 26, 2013, 13:25 »
A relevant question:

Is the 10.000dmg calculated based on the initial dmg the creatures deal on each hit, or does the damage reduction and resistances first apply, so that only the final actual dmg counts?
If the latter is true then a zerked character will have an even harder time to get the skull since his resistances are so high, he practically absorbs most of the dmg... Not to mention TAN levels and armor that add up on that too.

You can't get Iron Skull on Ao100. It's specifically excluded.
And it's impossible to get it by simply playing. There's not enough healing sources to get hit that much and still don't die.
MVm is super-boring, but it's the only way. It's the only trait that heals you.
Damn I forgot that detail.
That's sick man.. I can't begin to describe my loathsomeness for such a medal's existence...

Lovely :) So the angel arm is somekind of a nuke ?

An instant nuke in fact though it does have a drawback.
You could have seen it in the wiki btw.

This OST actually kicks some serious ass.

Was wondering:

Did all of those terrific music tracks, actually make it to 0.9.9.7 in-game , and secondly as good quality ?? (Meaning ogg or flac and not mp3)

ooouh, about 1 hour of dancing around agony elemental.

phase-shifting boots is only way to survive. Accidentally kill AE, and things become too boring... kill all. Only 1/2 of needed value :)

That's uber-boring. Any other decent way of getting it? What about an Ao100 run? Isn't it easy to get it at least there??

The bad thing about this medal is that the more you play DoomRL, the more chance you have to never be able to actually get it. Since becoming better at this game is actually all about dodging and avoiding hits in the first place, how the hell should we get this medal if we play carefully and avoid hits all the time? ... It kinda contradicts any decent run which feels stupid...

PS : Untouchable medals/badges are actually easier than this one...

Lucky thing to get 2 nano and an onyx mod on the same play. (actually I have never found an onyx mod.. lol)

Anyway welcome back and gratz but I'm wondering:

Angel of Purity in just 2 hours in UV with Limbo cleared as well as most of the special levels?
Srsly those UV and nightmare runs on hard challenges in 2 hours or less will drive me CRAZY, they seem outrageously impossible in my eyes. I'll probably never understand how some of you can play this game so fast.....

PS: And yes I know that 2Dev's Times per run, are even more outrageous...

86
Fair enough, but from the little experience I have in this game, when you know how to cornershoot with a shotgun constantly, big dmg for knockback is even better than high firing speed. If the opponent never reaches you due to knockbacks why should you bother increasing your low firing speed? With the 2 reloader plus shottyman, you don't really need firing time with a shotgun, while it is a plus I don't deny, I think it's superfluous. Piercing armor on the other hand, feels amazing when you can kill barons with 2-3 shots from a range of 2-3tiles, without risking your life at all.  Saves ammunition too.

87
MAD is actually the only truly reliable skill for shotguns imo. For lots of reasons. It saves ammunition. It even makes the bruiser brothers and other armored opponents a walk in the park. Even the normal shotgun becomes a beast with great knockback potential. Not to mention the power it gives to a double shotty, the elephant gun or a tactical  or exotic shotgun. Piercing all armors, is the only sure way of killing fast opponents with a shotgun. Tbh I never liked other shotgun builds. And don't forget the extra 10HP and 50% powerups for the marine with MAD, it does count since it actually gives you better survivability for the shamblers too.

Other than that, rapid fire builds are probably indeed better in there as it had already been mentioned, I did kill both shamblers that way last time I entered Deimos (was a UV standard game with cateye build) but I can't say it was very easy. Lots of running around, using some medpacks and having some "minor accidents" in the acid. Plasma rifle with TH to end the fight quickly and kill the 1st shambler was eventually required to survive. The 2nd then was easier, since cornershooting was at last reliable.

Century Lounge / Re: [M|Ao100|YAAM] Easy melee]
« on: March 26, 2013, 03:07 »
Nice one.

It's not exactly masterless, he did get Blademaster after all.

It's more like a build that focuses simultaneously on melee (mostly) and less on some weaponry. Not bad since the high level permits it.

Tbh I haven't tried Ao100 yet. I'm afraid it might take me more than 20 hours given that an average HMP/UV now takes me something like 6-8 hours. (I'm slow I know) I don't have that much time to spare atm imo, it seems like an endless game that way which I can't say I'm fond of.

However if I do at some point try it, I think it would be very beneficial to play a scavenger build since finding loads of crap in so many levels is the only certain thing, and it is always healthy to get extra modpacks and crafts, from destroying useless items. It seems like an easy way to finish all missing assemblies and also get the badges/medals for them.

Nightmare! / Re: [N!|YAAM|YAFW] I want angelic badges too!
« on: March 25, 2013, 14:42 »
Congratz indeed.

And I echo the sentiment about no-damage badges;  it's quite rare that I even get a Gold UAC Star!  :|
Don't worry you are not alone. I have only done it with cateye/intuition build, it is completely impossible for me with any of the other builds tbh.

Discussion / Re: CyberDemon dodging
« on: March 24, 2013, 19:12 »
I actually prefer to kill him damageless with a cateye build which makes it too easy. The weapon choices don't matter that much. It can be bfg/plasma/rocket or whatever that can hit from big range as an elephant gun, it doesn't really matter.

The only true caveat is that you should try and have enough ammunition, plus as much speed as possible on the char (tactical boot & armor for instance and a HR trait or even more movement speed if possible) and perhaps an EE trait point or 2, to actually make hits from large distance. Easier done in AoMC ofc.

Supposedly Cyberdemon had a bigger sight range than the doomguy, but cateye with INT2 actually reverses the roles.

With the above requirements you just run around the level trying max distance shooting and running again. If you do it correctly then Cybie will never even manage to throw a rocket.
Done it twice or thrice till now, it does work at least in 0.996 it worked. I find that method even easier than dodgemaster but maybe it's just me.

Also, if you get cornered due to the layout and the positioning "run" to get away fast enough and raise the distance. Use medpacks for fatigue for more running if needed.

PS: It's obvious that antigravity boots, and/or phaseshift/malek's armor make the cyberdemon head (as well as the masterminds), a walk in the park with the above build.
