Congatulations on the win! Some time earlier you said that you hate pistols - I hope you found some love for them :).

Good to see that you had no ammo trouble - two such powerful weapons combined with SoG5 can cause knockback more often than not, and this can easily lead the extra bullets from MBD to miss and go to waste.

One question though: How exactly did you expect Gothic Armor to help against Spidey? 6 protection is a fair enough reason, and with 300% durability it would last a while, but Spidey fires plasma, which cuts protection in half, and Gothic Armor has no resistance to plasma. Or perhaps you were not lucky with good armor finds (energy-shielded vest, for example)?

General Discussion / Re: Jupiter Hell concept art.

Kinda reminds me of Alice (a combat-modified power loader) from the good old Alien vs. Predator 2 first-person shooter.

Keep those pictures coming, Ewa! :)

It also reminds me that eventually I'll need to go dig up whatever old thread I ripped off to do Longinus Diamond on my old profile - I believe that also relied on an attack speed boosting method with Finesse, but I can't recall the exact build and I have no idea where to start going about calculating it.
You might have used a build somewhat similar to mine - a AoOC Scout with HR2 and Fin2. With that, both your movespeed and attack speed is slightly higher than AoD's, so you can then just run around in circles and hitting it when it cannot retaliate. Beating the AoD this way is possible, but IIRC the battle took me ~40 minutes realtime. You also need quite some luck, as you need to reach level 4 before descending to UC, which is not always possible.

@Zicher, I'd been attempting with Int->Int->SoG, for pseudo ESP, or SoG->SoG->Dualgunner, assuming the double damage was worth the slight increase in fire speed, but perhaps I was misguided. I'll have a look at your method tonight - it builds well into MSs, so perhaps I'll get a shot at Marksman Platinum as well if I pull it off.

I am, of course, playing AoMr, as that's required by both badges, Arena Gold and Marksman Platinum.

Edit: Mission complete, at least for Arena Gold - wasn't able to make it even as far as the Anomaly, though - Phobos 6 and 7 were both maze levels which were not kind to me. At any rate, thanks for the tip - attack speed is quite powerful. I suppose that makes my case for a MAc + Fin3 Burst Cannon even stronger...
SoG has not only the firing speed benefit, it also directly raises you damage by 1 per rank. These two benefits are really powerful together, raising your DPS from 5 (no SoG) through 7.2, 11.66, 20, 45 and 100 at SoG5 with a basic pistol (reloading and accuracy are not factored in this calculation). Quite an increase, if you ask me.
Add in the benefits of Sharpshooter, have a little luck with equipment, and you can go as high as 230 DPS (at SoG5 with a P3-modded combat pistol).

Congratulations, and don't downplay your win. Ao100 is fun (in its own sense) once you start rolling, that's true. Getting it rolling is a completely different matter.

... (I don't have the slightest clue how Arena Gold is even possible) ...

Not that difficult, in fact.
Pick a Technician, which starts with a T mod (-20% firing speed).
Pick SoG -> SoG -> SoG - you should get SoG3 in the middle of the Arena itself, and if you find a lucky vault on Floor 2, perhaps even earlier. Your firing speed is now at 0.32s even with a basic pistol.
A liberal use of cornershooting, pillardancing and running tactics should then do the trick. Of course, be prepared to take some damage, especially from the barons in the third wave, and hope that enemies will not simply swarm you from the starting position.
And if you are not playing AoMr, bring a shotgun for some help with first two waves (which include lost souls and demons).

I guess there's a hard cap on accuracy, and distance/sight penalty is factored in afterwards.
In fact that's only partly true. There is indeed a cap on to-hit chance, but that's applied after everything else is (weapon accuracy, range, Eagle Eye ...). For pistol builds this means that everything above EE3 would make any difference in extreme cases only (like GCB in full-auto mode, firing at targets at the edge of LOS), and even then the difference would be barely noticeable.

Note that the 50% miss chance against enemies out of LOS is applied after the shot would hit the target - your total hit chance against such targets will never surpass ~49%.

EE3 is definitely not overkill, as it is the requirement for Sharpshooter :).

Discussion / Re: Quick question about intuition + berserk
« on: February 14, 2017, 13:43 »
From a little roleplaying perspective, I like to think of it this way: You are berserking, raging, you need to taste blood! RIP AND TEAR YOUR GUTS!!!
No wonder Intuition simply becomes overriden by pure rage and bloodthirst.

By the way, this could make an interesting mechanic - while berserk, Intuition only works when you have no enemies in sight. You sense your next target, but as soon as you spot an enemy, you care only about them, you need to kill them, you need to taste blood! RIP AND TEAR ... umm, sorry.

I was running MB so anything that wasn't doing Acid or Plasma damage was a joke. I checked and unless my math is off somewhere, Barons would indeed have been able to deal as much as 6 damage in one shot, provided they did maximum damage. Most of the time I would just dodge their shots and run into melee range, though.
Awww, Malicious Blades. In combination with this armour. Makes me want to try such a run, just to post the stats screen with the resists :).

99
Well, rockets are always useful for corpse disposal, and shotgun plus shells can get you out of a really bad starting position after descending. I would probably not carry that shotgun with the Inquisitor Set complete, but hey, it probably worked for you (or made you feel safer at least).

EE5 is definitely overkill, but then again, if you wanted to stay on the safe side, the better for you.

Anyway, you might have kept the combat pistol for a full White Death (P3B2) modding. This creates a pistol with (3d6) [26/26] stats - enough to kill an unlucky Cyberdemon, that spawned close to you on a level descent, with no chance to even lift a finger. Even the GCB falls short of this beast of a gun.

Congratulations on the win - it's nice to see some good Sharpshooters around here.

I tried "altfire" and "altreload" in the soundhq.lua file - didn't seem to work.

After a little code-diving, I think it could be possible to add such sounds (and sounds for assemblies as well), but this would require quite a nit more tinkering than a simple config file modification.

101
Oh, but you can do that yourself :).

Check the soundhq.lua (in the folder with the executable) file to see the structure how the sounds are attached to weapons. At the end of the file, there are already separate sounds e.g. for chainsaw. Then just add the sound files somewhere into the DoomRL file structure, and assign the sounds to the items as you wish.

Note that currently the HQ sounds are in WAV format. Others formats may or may not be accepted.

Edit: I guess I spoke too soon, it doesn't seem to be that easy, as assemblies do not use standard format and assigning for items. But I'll try to find a way.

Yeah, I think the only thing dealing more than 1 damage/shot might've been Hell Knights or Cacodemons.. Possibly. Arachnotrons should've been down to 1/shot even with the halved armor.
Barons, revenants and mancubi can do still do more than 1 damage per shot as well, and barons double the armor damage. Also, don't take too many hits in quick succession, as the armor would not regenerate quickly enough, and trouble starts once durability drops below 50%.
Still, one hell of a piece of armor.

Congrats on this win - quick as a Sereg without Sereging! :)

For all I see at the Wiki, Lightfoot Platinum requires Ultra-Violence. The in-game description seems to be incorrect here.

Playing console version instead of tiles can help a lot here, or so I heard. All those movement and projectile animations don't really help with real-time speed.

Two Platinums, two Diamonds, and a 90%+ killrate on N!. Plus AoD. Plus Ao100.
Damn impressive win - congratulations! :)
