No it doesnt. Selecting the armor slot simply un-equips whatever is in it, so you cant "swap" anything.
Try press "i" key, then choose armor(or boots, or weapon) you want to equip. It will swap with already equipped.

That's what I meant. ^_^

My suggestion is very simple - no need to unequip an item as a separate action. Just open up an armor menu and choose a new one. Of course, that may be a really serious limitation to work around, but...

That's already how the game works... you select a new armor and it swaps with whatever you're currently wearing.

3) What do you mean by unconfortable? Do you have any suggestions?

One thing that would be nice would be to drop from the equipment menu.  When you have a full inventory and you're wearing steel boots and you want to put on those new plasteel boots you found, you have to 1. drop something in your inventory, 2. pick up the plasteel boots, 3. equip them, 4. drop your steel boots, and then 5. pick up the item you dropped to make room.  5 steps!!!

You should be able to drop your steel boots straight from your equipment (with "d") and then pick up the plasteel boots.  Then it checks to see if you're wearing boots and it asks "Equip the steel boots [2/2] now? y/n" (Same with armor and weapons - if you have nothing equipped for that slot, it should ask you if you want to equip it immediately.

Example:

Code: [Select]
-------------------------------- Choose Item -----------------------------------

  [a] 10mm ammo (x20)
  [b] ...
  [c] ...

  [w] (Armor) green armor [1/1]
  [x] (Weapon) pistol (2d4) [6/6]
  [y] (Boots) steel boots [2/2]
  [z] (Prepared) pistol (2d4) [6/6]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  Choose the letter of the item you want to drop. Escape exits.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would LOVE to see this happen. :)

In my opinion, these would add to the atmosphere of the Phobos base being a, umm, military base, you know :P

Wonderful ideas, Adral!

In 1.0 graphics mode of course you will instantly be able to tell different areas apart just by looking at them, but having interesting architecture and the right itmes will do the trick in ASCII.

Pre-0.9.9 / Re: First Win in the New Build
« on: December 01, 2006, 07:09 »
Still I think it was too easy, because you made it without problems "the Royal Way" -- that is with the LS and AA. I think I'll restrict the Mortuary and the Unholy Cathedral to being generated only above ITYTD difficulty... what do you all think? They should be realy special, so there's no place for them on ITYTD :)

Yeah, Unholy Cathedral is no problem with Brute and Berserk and then the Mortuary is a lot easier once you have the LS.  That sounds good to take both out of ITYTD, I think.  Makes sense! :)

Thanks!  Yeah, it was fun.  ITYTD is fairly easy... once you know all the tricks it's just a matter of not being careless.  Still, I managed to get myself killed a few times before I made it through, since I'm no Turgor! :)

I think the difficulty is pretty good to give beginners a challenge.

Requests For Features / More Interesting Postmortem History
« on: December 01, 2006, 02:26 »
Postmortem history right now seems fairly redundant, especially since it tells you all the special levels you went through at the top.  I suggest having some more interesting things to say for each level in the history?

First sentence could always be "On level X he A through B" like you have now, only with more options, depending on what occured.

Normal: "On level X he fought through B."
If a very low percentage of enemies was killed then: "On level X he quickly fled through B."
If all the enemies were killed then: "On level X he slaughtered his way through B. It was a bloodbath!"
If the player has below 10% health at any point in the level then: "On level X he nearly died in B, but survived."

Then you could have an additional sentence that displays any interesting things that were picked up along the way.  "There he picked up a thermonuclear bomb and an invulnerability globe."

And I'm sure there are other ways to make it more interesting.

"Many foes fell before his Longinus Spear."

"And he telefragged an Arch-vile!"

"Things were looking bad for him on level X..." (a modifier for the first sentence if he starts with low health, no armor, etc.)

"He gained the level 3 Dualgunner trait!" (would be nice for people on the forums to see :)

"His favorite weapon was the extended combat shotgun he received on level X." (for the end?)

"There he went on a berserk killing spree and turned N enemies into pulp!"

You get the picture! ;)

Probably not the best possible, but...

I'm making a post about the new version on TIGSource, Kornel!  Hopefully that will attract some more visitors!

The Mortuary is incredibly frightening, even on ITYTD.  I love the Arch-viles!

Two hits with the Longinus Spear to take out Cybie.

This game rules!

Halls of Carnage:
Shooting the room containing the BFG with a rocket results in the BFG being destroyed.

Yeah, that one's annoying.  I always end up blowing up the damn BFG. :(

I guess you have to hit the wall underneath the door?

Yeah, someone send in a good screenshot that shows an Archvile, maybe.  I need something action-packed to post on TIGSource!  C'mon, now!  I don't have time right now to get a good screenshot myself (I keep dying, too).

Requests For Features / Re: Unique Weapons
« on: November 29, 2006, 19:28 »
I wouldn't be against having "named" creatures and weapons in the normal game.  Wouldn't be all that unDoomish and it certainly would be a little more Roguelikeish.  I guess the question is would it change the normal gameplay and I think it wouldn't, really.  Might just make it a little more interesting!  The names have to be good, though.  I like "Ebony and Ivory."  I don't really like "Boomstick" as that's really just another slang term for shotgun.  I remember hearing about some cannon called "Baby Babylon" which I thought was pretty cool.  Maybe something like that!

The plasteel boots could be called "Icarus Boots" or "Icarus Feet."

But yeah, could be fun to walk into a chamber and see a named Baron named "Asmodeus," surrounded by two regular Barons (bodyguards) and some Hellknights. :)

Here are some demon names to look at!

tekknej, I like your ideas!  I think Kornel was talking about changing it so that Archviles could only ressurect enemies in their LOS, so the room you're talking about could work.

More room ideas!  More!  (I'll contribute more of my own later.)

Hahaha! :D

Kornel, you should put a little spot somewhere on the Wall map that says:

Quote
There's a quote etched on the ground here: "Hearing them screem soothens the soul."

Here's a great resource: screenshot maps of every level from Doom/Doom II!

A couple more room ideas I had:

Bridges over slime/lava (like in the first level of Doom 2):

Code: [Select]
########
#======#
#===...+
#==..==#
#==.===#
+...===#
#======#
########

Maze rooms with monsters and items:

Code: [Select]
########
#i#....+
#..#h#.#
#.####.#
#...[#.#
#.####.#
#h#{c..#
########

Crappy example, but it's hard drawing these maps!
