0.9.9.6 / [E|YAAM] First Mastermind kill

3 firsts on this one actually.  First time took out the mastermind since this was restructured into the "episode" style.  First time I managed to find the Jackhammer (AWESOME SHOTTY), and the first time I took survivalist master trait, which is also awesome.

Oh yeah first time I made a high powere nuclear plasma rifle.  Its surprisingly not that bad if you take EE, 1 full magazine (16 rounds) will kill all non-bosses except barons majority of the time.  Makes quick work of mancubi and viles I was thankful for. Mortem!

Any tips on getting the hells arena silver badge in the newest version?  I just cant survive the Baron.  I've tried shotty builds, pistol, and rapid fire.  All of them I do fairly well with as long as I dont have too much bad luck, get past the first 2 waves, sometimes its a struggle, but by the time I get to round 3 I just can never manage to take out the baron.  Im either out of armor, out of medkits, or just cant do enough damage depending on the build.

Tips?  Which class and build seems to have the easiest time in newest version?

Going for badges again in the newest version, this time wanted to get my strongman ones.  So yeah I did ITYTD just to get them, but the setup I had going was actually VERY effective, cant wait to try it with AoB

Went with Technician because Malicious Blades is just so god dang great I cant get enough of it.  Got myself 2 chainswords, Phaseshift armor with a power mod to make it as good as red armor with a massive speed boost to cover melee distance, then gothic boots with an agility mod to offset the knockback of the phaseshift and the speed reduction of the boots.

All in all, it was a heck of a lot of fun.  on level 24 found an invuln close enough to the stairs, and I had 2 nukes.  I was considering going for a full win, but I didnt want to push it with my first straight melee to get this far since i have yet to beat JC on any char.

  Just wondering, I didnt see it in the notes for the newest version, has the bug from the Berserker trait been fixed yet when going berserk on a killing blow, berserk does not activate properly?

  I'm not 100% if this is a bug or not, but as I recall, in previous versions imps fireballs could not hurt other imps (just like vanilla Doom) but as of 0.9.9.2 I have watched several imps injure and even kill other imps with their fireballs.

  Maybe its just me but I could have swore they didnt used to do this, if they did, I think it should be changed.  Would make a throng of imps that much more deadly.

well.  I took him out.  Then the next round I was taken out by everything else he kept reviving.

oddly enough no there was no error.log  However, I fixed the problem.  Instead of choosing to "save" the file in internet explorer, I just chose "open" instead and directly unzipped the temp file instead of saving it to disk.  Works fine now.

The site says the newest version is 2.33 mb, but when I was saving to disk the file was always 2.31, looks like something was stopping the download before it  could finish completely saving.

Windows XP.  Last version worked just fine, not a single problem.  Now, apparently Doom is destroyed. Fresh download, fresh install.  Re downloaded and unzipped several times, same problem.

Requests For Features / Secrets?

  So why are there no secret doors/rooms in DoomRL?  That was one of the major parts of doom, finding secret areas with goodies in them.  I dont think it would be that hard to implement, there are already vaults/caves generated on levels.  Intuition could reveal the location of these doors.  And to make it so you cant just rocket your way in, make the walls and the door in-destructable.  All you would have to do is bump into the right spot the door is located so they arent impossible to get in.
  Maybe also make it so no demons spawn inside them, that way if someone dosent want to take the time to track down that secret door it dosent hurt their kill count, they just miss out on the bonus items inside.

Or maybe someone can figure out how to make a RLDoom wad for doom?  Bringing DoomRL rules and character advancement to Doom!  Man that would be so cool, I love doom but its just so simple at times, I love the complexity of DoomRL and the character developement.

So until just now I didnt realize you could push barrels into lava.  Moved one too many times, pushed a barrel of napalm into lava and got the lovely message of "Oh my, how stupid."  hahaha love it.

Bulk mods add a percentage, on pistols they add 2 rounds per mod.  The T2 actually made things pretty easy, My fire time was down to I think .28 seconds.  Pretty dang fast.  Revenants never got shots off before dying, Viles usually only got 1 shot on me before dying.  The only thing I ever worried about as usual are Mancubi, boy do thoes things hurt.  My reasoning for WK>SoB was the fact I found no exotic or artifact pistols.  I didnt want to be slinging around 2 basic pistols with just one mod on them so I went with B2P1T2.  And the bulk really helps, the worst thing about a fast pistol build is the reload time, with B2 I can put out 20 rounds without having to reload, more than enough to take down anything besides the cyberdemon himself.  It was fun, but I think next time I will check out SoB.  Gun kata just seems kind of weak. That may be because ive never actually gone for it before.

first standard Angel of Marksmanship win.  Nothing out of the ordinary except the fact I found Onyx Armor on level 5 (!).  Modded with a power mod and agility mod.  better than red armor and can never be destroyed.  First time I found the revenants launcher and I cant even use it :( mortem below.

oh yeah, also made sergeant major after this run.  yay me.
