That was probably my favorite part about Hexen, the fact that it had hubs. You'd beat a level, get some important item, and open up a new area in the hub level. Made it all seem so much more epic.

It's possible. The wiki says that Lost Souls have 10 HP and the stuff does 10d1 damage so...

You'd have to test it out, though.

None that I can think of. Although, I did have a dream like this last night. My group and I were going to see some really important knight in this ancient monastery type deal, where monks in robes lined the hallway leading to his chamber. Before we could enter, we had to turn over all of our weapons which consisted of swords, wands, laser pistols, etc. etc. Also, there was a reptile dude in our group.

The knight himself wasn't anything too impressive; plate armor with tattered robes and a cape over it.

Actually, I guess the closest thing would Wizardry 6 through 8.

Maybe instead of armor, you could have both Health and Ego. The Ego would act as a form of regenerating armor, and you lose Ego before you lose Health.

Borrowing another idea from DNF, maybe you could have special items scattered around the levels that you can interact will have will provide a small, but permanent boost to your maximum Ego. Levelling up and killing bosses would also boost your maximum Ego.

Just a suggestion.

Fantastic ideas. I especially like the stress idea, and how more stress/fatigue inhibits your FOV. Although it seems like a facing system would have to be worked in (actually turning your character.)

I as well would love to see more Horror elements. DoomRL is a coffee-break fun shooter, but AliensRL has the potential to be a good tension/Horror type game.

How about flechette shells for the shotguns? That way they can more easily penetrate the aliens' thick hides and actually do damage.

Although, I'm not sure if flechettes exist in the Aliens universe...
