Bug Reports / Crashes in Linux with 1.2
« on: January 06, 2022, 00:23 »
This is extremely frustrating, but also probably hard to pin down.

I got a new machine at about the same time version 1.2 was released. Since then, I fairly regularly get crashes either when leaving the special level of Io, or Io's last level Gateway. Often these lock up my machine with the disk activity light lit up solidly. (Of course I also lose my save...)

IIRC this has only occurred when I've played the game straight without stopping. If I save & exit when I first get to Io, the game never crashes. But I don't always remember, especially when I'm in a game that I'm really focused on.

I've played a few games on v1.1 with this machine and none of those crashed, but I can't be certain that it's a problem new to 1.2 and not to this computer. I haven't had anything remotely similar with other games yet.

I've attached what I think are all the relevant files for the most recent crash. There's no crash_report_xxx.txt from these.

System is Arch Linux (EndeavourOS) stable, with NVIDIA drivers. I'm using the GOG version. Choice of GL or Vulcan doesn't seem to matter; running the Windows version in Wine is just as crash-prone.

So I play JH on a minimum-spec, Intel HD laptop using Linux. Performance is pretty bad, but I knew it would be going in, so I don't have any complaints there.

Occasionally though, the game will lock up and I'll have to kill it. Sometimes this gives me the "Game Crashed!" dialog box, other times it doesn't. Again, no big deal, I can't be too surprised with this machine.

BUT, when I don't get the dialog box, it also means my save doesn't get preserved, so my run dies. This is pretty frustrating. I get that removing the save while the game is running is meant to discourage save-scumming etc., but it's not like it does that much to prevent it since a player can just save & quit and then copy the save. Meanwhile I feel like I *should* be backing up my game regularly to avoid losing it in case of a crash.

Unless there's a foolproof way of forcing JH to quit that will preserve the save, please avoid deleting the save while the game is running.

AOD master trait levels 2&3 are supposed to increase the optimal range of shotguns, but the unique shotgun Monster isn't affected by this. Unsure if this is intentional or not, but it was disappointing.

Bug Reports / 1.0a Crash on Linux with game over [solved?]
« on: August 21, 2021, 11:14 »
In 1.0a every time I finish a game whether it's winning, losing, or even abandoning a run, the game crashes. This wasn't a problem in 1.0. Using "vulkan" with Intel HD 4000 gfx, on an up-to-date Arch Linux. Here's a crash log, I can post more if needed.

It may be possible that the crash is unrelated to upgrading to 1.0a and just a coincidence, but unfortunately I don't have my 1.0 installer any more.

Bug Reports / Two special levels in one moon?
« on: March 04, 2021, 13:29 »
Don't know if this is a bug, or something intended, but in my latest game in Europa, I cleared Conmara Chaos Labs (2 levels) and then the Containment area, and it put me back on Europa 5 where I was able to to Refuling Base (and then died stupidly lol). Unfortunately I don't have the seed, I didn't realize it wasn't included in the morgue.

0.9.7a, Hard, GOG Linux version.

morgue:
Code: [Select]
Kitchen Ace, level 10 Scout, killed on
Refueling Base by a ravager.

He survived for 7949 turns.
The run time was 57m 18s.
He scored 2015 points.

Bug Reports / Large part of level inaccessible (0.9.7a)
« on: March 02, 2021, 19:22 »
Seed 2465, Hard, Scout
Linux 0.9.7a from GOG
Europa 6

A lot of the level is blocked off. There's a main room with two doors out, but the other side of the doorways are solid walls.
