Do you REALLY think I'm using a BFG shot on one measly Arachnotron?

You're right. Dying is a much more sensible choice ;)

It's always tough when you have so many fully loaded BFGs in your backpack and just can't decide which to use :p

Can't you attack diagonally using numpad?

You can.
Just remember to turn off numlock.

Still I think it was too easy, because you made it without problems "the Royal Way" -- that is with the LS and AA. I think I'll restrict the Mortuary and the Unholy Cathedral to being generated only above ITYTD difficulty... what do you all think? They should be realy special, so there's no place for them on ITYTD :)

Sounds ok to me.

Requests For Features / Re: More Interesting Postmortem History
« on: December 01, 2006, 05:29 »
The mortem entries for the special levels could reflect whether the palyer cleared the level or not
"stormed the cathedral" = killed everything and "visited the cathedral" = did not.

"special" weapons ('advanced' etc) could show up
"On level x he was blessed with a stainless blender"

Leaving a level in less than x steps/not killing any monster/exploring less than x%
"he dashed through level x"

You could count the lever pulls prior to getting intuition and make a remark in the end
"he liked to gamble" = pulled a lot of levers

more to come :p

There is also a thread about AoM over at the discussion board.
Maybe you can post some of your finds or some general feedback on AoM there as well.

 66 of those were killed.
3 of those were killed by something unknown.
1 didn't read the thermonuclear bomb manual.
And 1 couldn't handle the stress and commited a stupid suicide.

Some rumours though, say that the Cyberdemon was killed already!
Is he immortal? 1 souls claim to have killed him...
1 killed the bastard and survived.

--------------------------------------------------------------

I got him down to severly woundet but his last rocket knocked off around 60% which I hadn't anticipated. I was down to one medkit so I didn't want to use it too early.
But those last 4 bullets would propably not have been enough anyway.

I also got to level 8 by rez-scumming

DaEezT                     Armor : red armor [4/4] (100%)   Phobos Hell  Lev5

I started on the far right in between 5 Cacodemons and used a phase device which took me to the lower middle part. There wa a computer map and I crept to the exit. But before leaving I fired a bullet down one of those corridors and blew up half the map. Then I remembered the last tiem I had an AV at a safe distance with easy mobs around him and kept shooting down the corridor. I kept doing so from around 7/20% to 8/sumfin. Which is propably the reason why I ran out of ammo when I fought Cybie.

Apart from that it was a pretty tough run. I used up all my meds prior to this level due to incredibly bad starting positions. Didn't find many meds to start with. Not a single nuke either. I had to literally sprint through lava for two levels because I couldn't fight any of the mobs with AVs around.
But then on level 23 the RNG had mercy on me and game me a level with 6 or 7 demons and one commando, nothing else. And to top that it had a supercharge, some ammo and three meds (the only ones I had when I faced Cybie).

So, that's it folks.
Gotta think about it a bit and update the AoM discussion thread.

I never dared pulling that lever in the City of Skulls on AoM.

How did Dualgunner (3) feel and was it worth it?

Quick update:

I gave Intuition a try but not havin soag(1)/(2)/dualgunner arealy on really makes the early levels apain. Also the lack of a rocket launcher kinda limits the use of intuition for sniping (maze of rooms anyone?).

I switched my tactics to taking Soag(2) Sg(1) and then Tan (1)(2)(3) and finally Soag(3) at level 7.
It feels a bit easier that way because you tend to have Tan(2) by the time Arachs show up. But I still can't seem to get past 23 :p

Bug Reports / Re: Arch-Vile's resurrection

That would be way too easy in case of former human types :-P.
Well, they would appear on the tile with their corpse (ar close to it) and then pick up their stuff ;)

That effect was annoying because all the items hid the stairs down and 'look' only showed the items, so I had to walk around and find the stairs by pressing '>'. D:

I found a computer map and since I was doing good I wanted to go straight to the stairs. But lucky me found an Arch-Vile guarding them (hint: the stairs are hidden under one of the items). So I backed off a few tiles and started bild shooting which lead to me firing about 500 rounds (I'm not kindding!) into the dark, killing one and the same former captain a dozen times and when I finally had the courage to approach the stairs I found three AVs and a Pain Element. I charged into their midsts and used all my medkits and armor to last long enouigh for them to kill each other with their area damage.
So I somehow survived this level without any medkits left and a severly depleted armor cache jsut to die on the next level after just a few steps...
to an AV of course!

Bug Reports / Arch-Vile's resurrection [NOT A BUG]
« on: November 29, 2006, 17:17 »
I noticed something strange about the resurrection ability of our beloved Arch-Vile. It doesn't really resurrect but instead spawns a new enemy of the same type as the corpse, including their standard equipment. In my last game this lead to a huge pile of weapons/ammo from all the monsters I killed and eventually this might lead to a crash (dunno what happens if all map tiles are full).
Maybe you could change resurrection so it spwan enemies with empty inventories?

Edit: spelling :p

Bug Reports / Rocket blasts go through indescructable walls
« on: November 29, 2006, 13:26 »
I noticed that when you hit an indestructable wall with a rocket the explosion from it reaches through the wall without destroying it and affects everything behind the wall as if it was destroyed.

I've seen the effect on two special levels so far:
Halls of Carnage:
Shooting the room containing the BFG with a rocket results in the BFG being destroyed.

City of Skulls:
You can shoot any of the rooms with a rocket launcher and kill the monsters inside without destroying the walls.
