Yes, I got an Inquisitor set to. Choose WK2 but not get large amount of mods as usual. Do not enter CoS and Spiders Lair. Do not enter UC and Limbo. Nuked Mastermind but JC have a surprise for me. Don't know how pistol build can do anything in such situation :( Anyway, this is my first marksman who faced JC. Melee much more easy!

Ordinary AoPc at minimum possible difficulty. But... Shielded Armor, Cybernetic Armor and Necroarmor in one run, when I just run to exit and can't kill anyone?
One of greatest danger level was Abyssal Plains - I enter here with Berserk and understand what I do... hopefully I have a homing phase. Lure all spawned souls and elementals out and use it.

Discussion / Does anyone got a Iron Scull?

well, untouchable series not for me... for now. I try another challenge - take A LOT of damage. well, past Chained Court only 890 taken :( I walk in lava and acid, I shot any barrels in close range, until I have a free medpacks or globes on level. well, need a lot of patience - die on lava :) But 10000 damage = approximately 300+ taken on every level, this seems near impossible. Does anyone got that medal?

Bug Reports / [0.9.9.7G/winXP] strange unwanted "run wait"?

So, I do not have a screenshot and crash report. But twice I have a strange thing: enemies do a some turns like I "wait" - but I do not wait, well...
1) have Int2 and was shoked how "X" quickly run to door and I face in arch-vile. Is about 8-10 turns, like I press "run - wait" and interrupted when enemy in LOS. But I DOES NOT press that!
2) was in door, shoot to hell knight in 5 tiles away. Step out... and hell knight appears in door! I do not have a gothic boots! :(

Discussion / What about previous version of DoomRL?

Now I try the NEW DoomRL - 0.9.9.7.
It seems like not completely but quite different game. Enemies shoot more, Lost Souls now have a new attack, and a lot of special levels rewritten or changed. Assemblies seems the same, but Tac boots nerfed (no dodge bonus), maybe some more changes that I don't find in first run.
I think that previous version was... not better, of course. But has another possibilities and ... Kornel, why you hide previous (0.9.9.6) version from download page? It was a good game, explored and documented at wiki. May be somebody wants try it later. I think that full archive of previous versions needed

May be I do not understand something. But... look on challenge raitings:
Angel of Berserk - Very hard
Angel of Marksmanship - Easy
Angel of Shotgunnery - Medium
Angel of Max Carnage - Medium
Angel of Pacifism - Very hard
AoB - complete on HNTR and HMP
AoSh - complete on HNTR and HMP
AoMC - complete 3 times on HMP
AoPc - complete about 10 times on HNTR and HMP
Why AoMs are marked "Easy"??? Can't win even on HNTR difficulty. Well, can't even reach Hell. The best result was killed by Cyberdemon. Pistols game looks very hard, harder then shotgun and melee challenge. Combat pistol not guaranteed, unique pistols too rare. Standart pistols have too low damage even with SoB*3 and DG. Have anyone some tips WHY this challenge has raiting Easy?

0.9.9.6 / [H|AoMC|YASD] + [H|AoMC|YAAM] Juggler game + some bugs

I decide check the Juggler, but at standard game we need more damage, and start from Fin-Jug not wise (I think that I even can't complete Hell Arena with such skills), so Angel of Max Carnage was choosen. Do not need MORE damage cause it always maxed. Not need MORE accuracy cause it always +10. And Juggler build really good for surviving!
On first levels I collect a 3 shotguns and 3 chainguns for quick switching. Hell Arena became a simple task. I can switch instantly shotgun (0) - chaingun - shotgun (loaded) and do 3 shots without reloading. Always hit + maxed damage + Fin2 = ultimate firepower.
With RL and chainfiring I kill Arena Master without trouble
The Wall was a good place for getting experience. Always hit RL+corner shooting+... so, I kill all :)
Strange bug appears on Phobos Anomaly. As usual, I equip missile launcher before opening room with Bruiser Brothers. Shoot one (knockbacked), then shoot second, then reload and repeat until they dies. It is my standard tactics. But one of BB was IMMUNE for rockets! First was dead, but second still marked as (unhurt) despite of 4 or 5 rockets (he take a knockback, but not a damage). well, switching to chaingun helps, and I kill him.
The more difficult game choosen the more mods we are find. So I take Fin-Jug-Fin-WK-WK and assemble tactical boots with A mod, then upgrade chaingun to burst cannon. Hell Armory was a good place for getting mods. I even assemble B-modded pierced chainsaw 6d7 and keep it at prepared slot (Juggler means I can use it anytime without switching).
I get 2 BFG from Halls of Carnage and Sity of Sculls, and unload both at Spiders Lair - I even not make a single step from center! 4 bfg explosions, quick switching to missile launcher (I add it to keybindings) and a nuclear plasma appears just were I stand.
Cyberdemon dies from 4 bfg explosions even have no chance to fire. Instant switching rulezzz
UC was a hard level - I easily kill souls and demons but Angel of Death was decent enemy! At this moment I decide build to MSv, so have a lot of health and piercing chainsaw. Well, result was 2% health and Azrael's Scythe.
At Vaults I was stupid enough for using Staff immediately. Mancubi+Revenants is a dangerous mix! My main weapon was burst chaingun (1d8)x6 (I try to save as much items as possible).
So, with only one large medpack and 46% health I leave Vaults and hear deep, guttural noises!... health globe near me restored health a little, I open door... and get hit to 8%. Using large medpack means next shoot and be knockbacked to lava, I decide try to run away but ... x_x

Now the same build, successful full victory. As in a previous game I start from Fin-Jug, then get WK2. Think about Survivalist and continue TaN-TaN-Bad. At this moment think "WTF? no, MSv a bad trait and does nothing!" Becouse of TaN, no other master traits (except Vampire - no-no, not in AoMC :)) were available, so I simple choose SoB3, TH, 3d Finesse - I can totally ignore this traits, actually. All that I need and use was Juggler and a lot of modified assemblies.
Find 2 P- and nano-pack at armory. P-modded red power armor is best that I can get. Then it was an easy game. There were only two dangerous levels: Sity of Sculls and Mortuary. At SoS use rocketjump to escape, at Mortuary run out of 10mm ammo (2 full ammochains, 500 bullets + 80 loaded) - last enemies in Mortuary killed from shotgun and nuclear plasma.

Approx. 4th death, Ultra-violence, Ao100. 2 first attempts were unsuccessful - level 7, out of medpacks, killed by something. 3d attempt was good... until for level 23 I forgot about low health. Now, I need some math - where a point when I must use a medpack... Have a ~30% of health and ... "Damn, man, this Hell Knights only drops it to 8-10%, and than I use medpack" - ouch!..

Well, nothing special. But I try to get as much of badges/medals as I can in first run. New virgin copy of DoomRL, first run.
Found Dragonslayer on Hell 6 (22), but can't get it.
As a result, need only 1 Bronse and 2 Silver badges for unlock all challenges (get 14/15 and 3/5). Impossible get more than 15 bronze badges on first run - last 15th possible badge is for 30 minutes, to quick for me :( 2 Silver badges more easy to acquire - advansed assembly, win on HMP, win in 25 minutes. So, now train himself for speedrun.

Of course, at 99% situations we always use them on self (num '5'). But I see a good usage for sometimes teleport not self, but one of monsters surrounds you. Using medpacks on monsters is not a good idea... but who knows may be we have a pet or some kind of companions in later versions? Or special level with another marine, who must be alive on completing?

Seems not good.

"...was completely toasted in small lava pool"
"...accidentally dissolved by acid"
"...can't run out of lava emission" - on special flood levels
"...was to slow and frozen to death" - on deadly chill levels
So, IMO more accurate death messages needed. Perfect if 2-turn analyze death conditions "Forget about boots when walking at Hell". "His last medpack was not save his life". And so on.

So, I just playing for fun, neither for new record, nor specially hunting badges. Choose a berserk-MVa run, was too injured for Hell Arena, and do not enter that. That was mean no Arena Master Staff. Past Phobos Anomaly I decide try "Clear Vaults by luck" and start to accumulate phase devices... Missed 4 pieces of hellspawn were Cacodemons at Chained cort, 2 at each of rooms past lava.

So I did it!
As usual, ground floor of Civilian tower did not have any SMGs. I picked up to the basic level Sidearms and then advanced. At this point completely run out of medikits and I decided to go to Medical.
Take a few kits, do about 3 or so laps around the perimeter to get exploration bonus. Level up Fitness. In one of the passages found MP5 and a decent pile of 5.56 ammo. Unfortunately 9mm ammo was low. Go to the store was a long time, and I chose engineering tower next. FN SCAR pile waiting here brave marines - so, I take one (actually, I take anything, grab ammo and drop empty rifles). After a little exploration I got enough experience for level up in Primary weapon. For bullet saving try shoot volleys only at close range, and from 9mm pistol - at distance or finishing off...
Summary of levels 1-2:
Large amounts of .44 ammunition and no Colt.
Heaps of 12g shells and no shotguns.
Too few tools (5 or 6). But has found about 20 sequrity keys.
The most uncomfortable was constantly change one weapon to another. Low 9mm - take FN SCAR. Low 5.56 - take MP5. But I understand purpose of droping something - droping SMGs on passages or near elevators was extremely useful.
So I decided to visit Military-2 and found pulse rifle. Drop it near elevator, take SCAR, explore Military-2 completely, visit one room in Military-1, then up to Military-3 and ...
...(there could be a long and boring story)...
At 5th level, all the lifts (apart from the elevator in the tower of the military) were broken. Fortunately Technician needs a little for mastering his Tech skill. I remembered the previous attempts and was not going to rise above 5 level through a military. As I understand reading forum, last task will be descend to Civilian-1. So I fix Civilian elevator.
On Engineering-6 I found sawed-off (damage 24L !!! A powerful at close range). Almost immediately after that, I got the Colt .44 - the weapon of my dreams. Good from distance, good at close range, and a lot of ammo. (Btw, lately I think that sawed-off more good because of master Technician reloading bonus...)
The Queen was not extremely dangerous. The most difficult moments were accending to the next floor past level 5 (a random generator create too large group of aliens around the elevators) and exploration the upper floors of the Military-Sequrity-Main towers. Escaping was easy but fun.
