I figured I would test out .994 AoB with a classic Sunrise Iron Fist attempt, but I didn't think it would end up Untouchable. Shame I missed the Compet-N Plat by 30 seconds. Yes, this victory involved punching Cybie to pieces with the fist...and I dont think I bothered to put on armor even once during this run.

0.9.9.4 Spoilers for all! Ok not really because I dont use many 'new' features except classes.
Honestly my first day trying to grind out AoB on N! and it took fewer tries than I thought.
Yeah I know the 24% kills and clevel 7 is sad but the 13m time means I can probably do this again on standard for UAC Diamond...hmm.

This is a premature request considering 0.9.9.4 isn't even out yet...But here goes anyway:
How about an option for a 'Classless' game (a good name would be "Recruit") that has no perks similar to pre-0.9.9.4 games. Of course this opens the door for new challenge medals, etc. And perhaps some 'extra fun stuff' for the people that elect this route.

In the bottom right was a patch of water outside the level boundary. The problem was that my last enemy (a demon) was trapped inside. I used two barrels to open it up, but this wouldn't have been possible without a computer map.
I suppose the stairs could have generated in there too...

Discussion / Class System Concept - Community Discussion

The rumor is that this will indeed make it in to 0.9.9.4 but there isn't much talk about what it's supposed to be. So I'm just going to pull this post out of thin air to generate discussion (AND motivation for Kornel). The only other thread I've seen on it is the list of build names created back in February, located here:

Some assumptions going in to this are:
1) Classes won't affect actual gameplay, but will be an information layer on top of existing system
2) Not at classes are viable (which means painful RNG fun in trying anyway!)
Brief Description:
As noted in the post linked above, your trait selection determines your class. Gameplay proceeds are normal
Player files will track your ultimate Class AND difficulty level victories
For example: If you beat the game with Army of the Dead (MAD), your class will be Stormtrooper.
Difficult level determines degree:
ITYTD/HNTR MAD = Novice Stormtrooper
HMP MAD = Journeyman Stormtrooper
UV MAD = Master Stormtrooper
N! MAD = Elite Stormtrooper
This will add a new screen to the player files that will read like a list of 'discovered' class combos and the difficulty level you managed to win using that class. Right now we have ideas for 50 classes based on either Master Traits or two two advanced trait combos. Can you beat even ITYTD with ALL of them???
Pros of the system:
1) Enhances Standard game replayability
2) A new system of 'discovery' of classes, much like assemblies
3) Probably at least one new badge series
In a nutshell: I see this system can add great value, especially to replayability to Standard games. Obviously 'Challenge' games will dictate one or two dominant classes anyway.
Ideas for expansion:
*Somehow buffing a player in N! gameplay for achieving Master in a specific class and USING it in N! :P
*New Badge series for being a <Novice,Journeyman,Master,Elite> in 10,20,30,40,ALL classes

This has been a supposed feature for a while that doesn't occur due to a bug. It's time it gets added to the tracker.
Today's IRC chat about it:

Probably could have Angel Armed a bit for the Fallout and I guess nuking cybie didn't count for his head. Shouldn't have bothered with JC since I had the LE for god mode and insta-kill weapon

Now that we have lava/acid rivers, it's time to add some Doom-ish interactions with the levers.
Sometimes we run across a lava or acid river with no bridge. In Doom, when this happened, there was usually a lever around that would raise a bridge up for the player to cross.
Sounds like a new purpose for a lever - to generate a bridge if one doesn't already exist. Of course RNG would never be convenient enough to put the bridge in a useful place...or guarantee the lever is on our side of the river!

Requests For Features / New Level Event - Monster Invasion

This happens quite a bit in the real Doom and I think it would work well in DoomRL as one of the new level events.
Sometime during the level, monsters will start teleporting in. It should probably be all of one type of monster.
Most of the time in Doom, it would be all of one type of monster, typically imps or captains, that would start teleporting in from nowhere. (In actuality they are kept in some inaccessable room off the edge of the map and the players movements triggers the open teleporter and they 'wander' in to it to give the appearance of an invasion). Hopefully in DoomRL we can avoid the amusing telefrag

Simple tweak that might appeal to veteran players.
Change the Spider's Lair to just "The Lair" and make three possibilities for the inhabitants
All Arachs (like now)
All Revenants
or All Mancubus
The player shouldn't be able to tell who is living inside before they enter but the mortem will tell you what happened.

I've been grinding away to Colonel rank and I needed 2 more Golds (the next version requires more than 0.9.9.2). AoI/UV was the goal, but it didn't happen due to RNG dropping me in a huge pile of enemies. Remember, no phases or medpacks on this challenge.
But I did manage a few lesser seen awards and a gold I didn't expect due to the armory granting me my final basic assembly. And this was my first time receiving the Shambler's Head in the armory.
I could try this challenge again to get that final gold badge OR I'm 3 medals shy of Heroic Gold...hmm decisions decisions.

This run was pretty smooth until I got to Phobos Arena. The Cybernetic armor was a great find.
I only had 30 shells so I knew I couldn't do enough damage to Cybie to win. HoC was my last opportunity to find shells
No Nuke and couldn't get the BFG from HoC because I didn't want to risk crossing lava.
Spider lair didn't spawn nor did City of Skulls for the other BFG. Doh!
NOTE: I'm only playing this challenge on HMP+, have not tried HNTR since my first post on this challenge. I'm not a fan of the Int2 build for this challenge

Bug Reports / [0.9.9.2] Phase devices and enemy behavior

This has been an issue for a long while but since it ended one of my good runs today, I figured I'd post whine about it because it's probably 'unfair'
Ever start in an arena-type level and get surrounded by Barons or Revs and use a phase device to escape to a side of the level...just to find that those same enemies come charging at you a few turns later from the center?
It's because once an enemy sees you, they maintain their knowledge of your position AFTER you phase. Verified using Int 2 and getting surrounded...use the phase and landed in a corner...and I waited, watching those enemies in the center run directly toward me to the corner.
EDIT: This is most noticable with enemies that tend to maintian a long-term fix on your position after spotted (Barons & HKs) but I've had Revs and Former Commandos cause trouble as well.

This one was played straight through without break. 4.5h wasn't too bad considering the painstaking grind that YAAM games require
