It took me quite a while to realize it but, why on earth (eh... not best way to put this) are there trees growing around the entrance to the phobos base? I realize that there isn't where else to put them (as long as the former AI bug making them shoot at the trees is present), but I just realized that it's a little weird. The Phobos base is supposed to be a normal research base, the trees grow only in hell in the original Doom.
So.. yeah, it's not a big issue, it can be handwaved easily in a number of ways and more importantly nobody but me probably cares enough to warrant any handwaving but still... it feels wrong to have trees growing on Phobos.

Lol, maybe it's a bad pun?
"Hey Doomguy, why don't you make like a tree and leave!"
-
make them sight blocking boulders for the entry and let trees spawn in hell
-
What bothers me more is that those trees block bullets but not shrapnel.
-
well, they do block shrapnel, but since the mechanics of shotgun blast determination uses several lines of fire (against some 15-distance tiles IIRC) you can aim your shot that it will hit the enemy right behind the tree. You can avoid the shotty blast if the sergeant is lined with the tree in one of the 8 straight directions, this way the only LoF that could hit you will be blocked by the tree.

Hmmm ... A few trees here and there around the Unholy Cathedral could make a nice touch.
-
And maybe in Dys? But that would require that they stop mastermind plasma bullets. Or get obliterated by them.
-
Yeah, trees act exactly like any 1x1 pillar in the game. Thing is, they aren't exactly common. They crop up in caves sometimes. And they don't permit normal corner shooting.
-
I figured it was due to some extensive terramorphing. I mean, the atmosphere is breathable there, isn't it? Anyway, some trees in some other areas of the game would fit well.

Well, the doomguy keeps a helmet on, he's probably equipped to deal with lack of air. The zombiemen are already dead, so they wouldn't mind. On the other hand, there is quite a lot of open windows in doom. I guess they didn't really bothered to think about it. There are no trees on phobos and deimos in doom AFAIK though.
BTW, trees in doomrl don't work the same as pillars right now, since you can see through them and the AI (both enemy and your aiming) doesn't consider them an obstacle, even though the projectiles do.

Actually, i think it would be cool if the 1st level of hell would take place outside, just saying. And that is an excuse to have trees elsewhere in the game...

And that would be more logical if UC as a big building was outside.

Hmm.. the same for the city level type.
I could imagine trees growing in the middle section of the anomaly, but now that I think of it, that's still very much Phobos.
In any case, the trees need to be destructible or flagged as an obstacle for the AI first.
