missile hits the former sergeant. You die!... Press <Enter>...

 Material Defender,

Igor Savin, level 6 Cacodemon 1st Lieutenant Marine,
was spooked by a lost soul on level 1 of the Deimos base.

Heh. You should see the days I spam AoOC going for some Gold or Platinum badge I could otherwise never touch - I get literally hundreds of these in a row =P

Although now I wonder... is it unusual to die this many times in a row for most players? Even when I'm not forcing something with OC, I die way more then I win:

-- General ---------------------------------------------------

1479 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
 1343 of those were killed.
5 of those were killed by something unknown.
34 didn't read the thermonuclear bomb manual.
And 74 couldn't handle the stress and committed a stupid suicide.

 23 souls destroyed the Mastermind...
6 sacrificed itself for the good of mankind.
17 killed the bitch and survived.

I've got:

-- General ---------------------------------------------------

383 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
 319 of those were killed.
2 of those were killed by something unknown.
24 didn't read the thermonuclear bomb manual.
And 17 couldn't handle the stress and committed a stupid suicide.

 21 souls destroyed the Mastermind...
2 sacrificed itself for the good of mankind.
12 killed the bitch and survived.
7 showed that it can outsmart Hell itself.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Not pictured: the many hundreds of doomguys who shift+Q'd after an enemy died on my many Pacifist Angelic attempts. I don't play a lot lately though.

It's the sun, we've already got four insane solar flares within two days, and scientists say even more are on the way.

God, I am always surprised by the huge number of poor doomguys who never make it. Usually five deaths in a row make me ragequit the game for a day :)

0.9.9.6:
363 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
 321 of those were killed.
5 didn't read the thermonuclear bomb manual.

 36 souls destroyed the Mastermind...
8 sacrificed itself for the good of mankind.
20 killed the bitch and survived.
8 showed that it can outsmart hell itself.

0.9.9.7:
170 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
 122 of those were killed.
1 of those was killed by something unknown.
12 didn't read the thermonuclear bomb manual.
And 11 couldn't handle the stress and committed a stupid suicide.

 24 souls destroyed the Mastermind...
4 sacrificed itself for the good of mankind.
14 killed the bitch and survived.
6 showed that it can outsmart Hell itself.

It feels like I play a lot, but I also shift+Q a lot too. But I've definitely died more times than I quit out early.
And these days I'll die because...god knows, really...ragequit, grumble along the lines of "stupid game and stupid mechanics" for about 2-3 minutes, and then start up another run. This happens about 2-3 times a day, depending on what I was playing it.

Edit: Killed by something unknown? Hmm, I wonder if that was the time I was messing around with teleporters...

Something unknown is a death to JC, I believe.

1059 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
 1010 of those were killed.
1 of those was killed by something unknown.
11 didn't read the thermonuclear bomb manual.
And 10 couldn't handle the stress and committed a stupid suicide.

 26 souls destroyed the Mastermind...
4 sacrificed itself for the good of mankind.
19 killed the bitch and survived.
3 showed that it can outsmart Hell itself.
Most of AoOC are quits, usual games usually end in death.

And no, unknown is not related to JC. Iirc it's about object that killed you not being present, oh something like that, i'm not sure.

P.S. 6 loses in a row? Now i'm gonna brag how it took me a month to win one of challenges.

From what I read, unknown is, indeed, for cases like "the baddy which killed you killed himself first", with a bareel, or his own damages.

And for those wondering :
1188 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
 980 of those were killed.
8 of those were killed by something unknown.
27 didn't read the thermonuclear bomb manual. -> F***, fix AoRA death ! Stop giving me YAAM and record a stupid nuke suicide when I'm killed by a former human !
And 4 couldn't handle the stress and committed a stupid suicide. -> includes an AoHu walking for 1 tile of lava in HoC, and another one shooting a rocket at himself in the wall due to LOS glitches. Sigh :(

 167 souls destroyed the Mastermind...
12 sacrificed itself for the good of mankind.
115 killed the bitch and survived.
40 showed that it can outsmart Hell itself.

So I just got punched to death by a former elite while attempting HMP Angel of Humanity.
The run by itself wasn't important or note-worthy enough to warrant its own thread in the post-mortem, but I felt like I really had to share. Wasn't even angry, just baffled.

A former elite sergeant punched me down from 100% to 10% (but when you're playing on AoHu that isn't as much as you initially think). I had heals. Small medkits, large medkits, had them both. The former elite sergeant was down to "severely wounded", and I was blasting a P-modded shotgun to his face. I thought "the next blast will kill him, and then I'll pick up the large health globe in the upper-right corner of Military Base"

Nope.

Not transferring my DoomRL profile from my work computer upon leaving work means all progress in 0997 is lost for me. A truly bad day for Doom. One Diamond, three Platinums, all is lost and gone.

Ah well. With two months "vacation" ahead, I have more than enough time to get back on track.

My solution: Playing from a flash disk. Works wonders for playing both at home and at work ;)

Yep. Not copying DoomRL was quite a mistake this time, and I realized a bit too late. Ah well ...

I think that's the nice thing about the DoomRL achievement system: you may lose the badges, but this has no effect whatsoever on your style of play. And  find earning them by the bucketload the next time around ever so satisfying :)

While that is nice, nothing will give me back those >200 games played before what happened. Sure, I did get better, and I believe I will achieve those  ranks faster then before, but still, it is a loss.

And why the hell am I even talking here? I could already be getting my first E/YAAM game, just for the start :).

Right, see you in fifteen minutes then :)

Well, first I have to figure out some at least semicomfortable way of movement - a laptop without a numeric or xternal keyboard is not exactly DommRL-compatible. I have to figure it out somehow. The standard Home-End-PgUp-PgDn layout is not an option for me, so this may lead to some serious remapping here ...

My runs usually end very swiftly.

Yay.
