I don't mind using "l" too see things, it's mostly when I have intuition or a computer map running that I would love to know what those other objects are.  Maybe if I am berserk, I can stare at that computer map or my intuitive brain more closely?

There's a rational explanation for that actually -- if you're Berserk, you really don't give a damn to whether that's a medpack, envirosuit, or even a gun. You want to kill NAOW! Even more, I'd actually play around with the idea of Berserk locking your map memory for it's duration at all :).

Quit making the game harder D=

I think that's one of the reasons people choose MVa, and one of the reasons I would go for it.  If you find the cleaver, MBm is a wasted trait.  I think a unique that has the effects of MVa should be introduced.  Maybe Vampire Hunter D's sword, or Dracula's Fang?

Before him 952 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
 830 of those were killed.
3 of those were killed by something unknown.
58 didn't read the thermonuclear bomb manual.
And 38 couldn't handle the stress and committed a stupid suicide.

Some rumours though, say that the Cyberdemon was killed already!
Is he immortal? 23 souls claim to have killed him...
4 sacrificed itself for the good of mankind.
17 killed the bastard and survived.
2 showed that it can outsmart hell itself.

This would have been the perfect run if it was on HMP... but oh well.  I realize this isn't much, but I haven't won a game in awhile, and I'm proud of this!

Attempted a fist run on HMP, found a trigun and nuked a level, but not sure if that would still have counted.  Didn't matter since I spawned next to a Vile and Mancubi pack on the next floor.

Anyway, yay!

Impressive run.  I was thinking about doing a UV Conqueror run and trying to get both Vampyre and MAD.  Congrats on beating AoI.

Vince started to grow restless.  He had already spent far too long in one place than he would have liked.  This discomfort had been growing ever since he set foot into this empty metal vessel, but had been abated slightly by the presence of the A.I.  He couldn't quite explain it, but he felt more of an affinity toward the synthetic intelligence than the rest of his "friends."

The military types couldn't be rushed, he may as well find the medical facilities and distract his mind somehow from this lingering unease.  First, however...

"Carrion, I'm interested in hearing more about... yourself."  Smiling slyly, he imagined the faces on his companions to be quizzical.  "Tell us about your functions and capability, and anything else you may feel like sharing."

Eager to try this out, but it isn't working for me.  I just copy and paste all the files into the doomrl folder, right?

@KG - That is EXACTLY why AoMr needs a unique pistol with a railgun firing effect.

Discussion / Re: MAc/General Balancing (pt 2)
« on: August 27, 2010, 02:56 »
Making MAc block HR instead of SoG seems like a reasonable nerf. No defense for you!

I'm actually VERY in favor of doing this.  Why on earth is SoG blocked in MAc anyway?  Absolutely no reason, and if we're looking to nerf MAc, HR is a good bet.  It also fits the spirit of the master trait, since chaingunners aren't all about running around anyway.  Also, show me someone who is skilled at dodging while wielding a chaingun.  I can't even think of any movies where someone has dodged *anything* while firing a chaingun.

57
Even Intuition, unfortunately, doesn't let you see what type of powerups they are when "under the influence"

Yeah, I agree that it's one of those "extra little commands that are only really useful in extremely specific instances that knowing will help you during specific event" that are common in more complex roguelikes.

That being said, being able to kick an item to move it into a different square would be such a blessing on melee challenges.

59
This absolutely has my vote, it's pretty difficult to sort through, especially if all your runs of a specific challenge all have the same character name.  (Almost all of my AoPc challenges are named Ghandi)

60
To be honest, I think you have a good idea as is.  Having a few challenge modes just for fun with all badge earning disabled would be fun and is currently a missed feature in DoomRL.  For these fun challenges, I would recommend all of the following I've seen...

AoBones - If this became a badge-earning challenge, I could see a lot of trouble balancing it and a lot of abuse when it came to setting up levels to get the badges specifically.  Let it be an awesome fun experience in and of itself.

AoFuture - Giving all the enemies plasma weapons, including yourself, is just a very fun idea that doesn't seem like it would be too difficult to implement.  Even if the changes were simply that all enemies did plasma damage and dropped plasma weapons for pickup.

AoSpeed - Having Running and charging seems a little unbalanced and weird, but why not just have your marine constantly in running mode?  There's already penalties for running, I would love to play a game in constant running mode, even if there were no badges for it.  It would even be fun to be able to switch to a tired state for awhile, then be forced back into running.  "You feel unsettled.  You begin to run!"

Since it seems like badges are the thing that is difficult to balance, why not add in modes just for fun?
