Title: Help Wanted
Post by: Xenomoth on January 09, 2013, 19:25
Hey, after finally getting interested back in rougelike games and the whole Aliens deal, I decided to come back to this game. I've played it quite some time ago and wanted to play it again, but it seems to crash every time I start it up.

The error looks like this:

And the log it gives me looks like this:

I don't exactly know what I did wrong, because I have played it before and installed the right one. I've even gone back and installed it again, try old versions, and see if making changes to Admin/Firewall would work, but none of them really work. Any help would be appreciated.

Hmm the logs don't really tell much, but I wonder... have you tried running it in console mode?
abrl.exe -console

(EDIT: To clarify... since the last couple versions, if you run it normally, it's not really in a console. It's SDL imitating a console)

Access Violation... Either you're missing a dependency or you've run into a bug. What OS are you on?

Edit: your log says Windows.

It can hardly be a dependency thing since all the dependencies are packed into the windoze archive.
Since the previous version won't work either but the version from ages ago did work, I am guessing that your computer somehow doesn't like SDL, or something like that.

Also, make sure you unpacked the archive properly with directories, and that you're running the game from its folder!

Alright, that's the thing that is coming up, when I bet it through one of those dependency things, but I have no idea what it means. I'm not much of a tech person at all, so I'm going to say it might be bad??? Or maybe my computer likes to screw with me. Anyways, I've re-downloaded the game many times, too. Also, I've tried to run it using the "Run" program, but with no luck.

Also, I've had the game like this, in its folder:

Looks like some DLLs are missing ...maybe patch the system first?

If it doesn't help, search for missing DLLs, download them, register in the system and restart, like mentioned here:

No... those file dependencies make absolutely no sense.  Can you provide more details about your computer?  Which Windows operating system are you using?
