Title: request for new challenges (and other things)

1) new challenges:

angel of cowardice
- you always are in coward mode
- you have an extra bonus in dodge and run
- you don't get xp for killing monsters
- at leave a level, you get xp for monsters you left alive

angel of pain
- you only get xp for every hurt you get
- when you get big hurts, there is a % that you get berserk

angel of apprentice
- you need more xp for advance an xp level

angel of exploration
- if you don't explore completily a level, you loose xp

angel of madness
- every time you advance one level, another ``angel of ...'' challenge is selected

2) rooms with acid or lava, and strech passages:

3) keys:
- keys are invulnerables
- monsters can pick up keys, so you need kill them for get that keys
- in early levels, you don't need keys
- in next levels, you need one key for activate the exit stairs
- in next levels, you need two keys
- in last levels, you need three keys
- normal exit and red exit can or can not need same keys for activation

I'd rather call it Angel of Mercy ;)
Might be an intersting challenge.

angel of pain

With berserk it would probably turn into another AoB.

angel of apprentice
- you need more xp for advance an xp level
Sounds a bit boring :p
Simply finish the game with less XP than usual.

angel of exploration
- if you don't explore completily a level, you loose xp
How about earning XP for every explored tile? Losing XP doesn't sound right to me.

angel of madness
- every time you advance one level, another ``angel of ...'' challenge is selected
While I like madness, this would just cause too many problems (bugs).

This is how I thinked, but it maybe crash the balance of the game: you get more xp than before. If you go to loss xp, then you are forced to explore. The problem is that you could loss xp level also.

Why I request the keys for doomrl? Because I miss so mush the aspect of puzzle-maps of doom. I miss the exploration of level to find how to solve the map and then can escape.

Uhm, arguing with yourself? ;)

Keys could be intersting, but the impact wouldn't be that great since the levels are only one screen in size and you cannot go back. So all keys have to be on the current level.
It would probably end up being "kill all monsters till you find the one who picked up the key", but then again, you kill all/most of them anyway.

The only obvious change I see is that it might make accessing the special levels harder. i.e. Special levels always need a key, so you can't just escape down the red stairs if you start in a Caco cavern because you need the key.
But keys for all stairs, hmm, I don't really see it.

Keys could be nice in fixed precreated levels. As an example of key use: Hoc's BFG room could be smaller:

, so it's great chance to destroy BFG if you will try to open it with rocket(but if you're lucky or experienced, it is possible). But there is a room on the level, where are 2 or 3 BoHs that are guarding the key, which safely opens the door.

In future(when an ability to create custom levels would be implemented), keys could be a very nice way to create interesting levels.

Ooh, suddenly a picture in my mind: A maze level filled with mini-vaults, and also lots of mancubi, who coincidentally are guarding the keys to all the mini-vaults.

Another idea for a challenge game: When you go down to another level, you lost almost your all inventory. For example, you don't lost your equipment items, two items of ammo for your weapons and the thermie.

Angel of Speed - Get exp for diving not for killing. The quicker you dive more exp you get.
Angel of Teleportation - Teleport randomly every so often.
Angel of Vulnerability - Not allowed to wear armour or boots

Angel of Conflict
- Always in Aggressive mode
- Enemies are considered as they were in Aggressive mode as well
- Enemies sometimes attack each other when the player's around
- More enemies are generated
- Stronger enemies are generated at earlier levels

Angel of Vengeance
- All damage gains a +1 bonus
- Additional +1 bonus on each level up
- All enemies killed will respawn to the next level

Angel of Love
- Always a level up when descending to next level
- Enemies can't be killed or harmed, with the exception of CD and JC

I definitely would like maybe little passages or islands in those big acid areas...

How about a halfway lever, that when you pull it some lava or acid puddles pop up, but the whole thing doesn't get flooded?  I seem to remember there being one room with acid that didn't just fill the whole place, so while there wasn't a clear passage, at least there were stepping stones of a sort that you could use.

The Angel of Exploration is nice, but if you're worried about getting too much experience on a per-tile basis, why not have a set experience award that's given based on the percentage of the board that's uncovered?

I also like the idea of the coward one, just because it would be a different challenge to have to run past enemies instead of killing them.  As far as the XP stuff, I guess you need some way to advance...  how about combining it with the Angel of Exploration?  That way, you could just run to the exit all the time, but if you risk looking at more real estate, you'll get more experience in return.

Sort of like Angel of Infiltration or something.

Hmm... Angel of Poison ?
-Your life decays as if it were above 100%. (Badass trait still can slow it down, but can't nullify it)
-You gain a little of life every time you kill an enemy.
-Supercharges are disabled.
-More enemies spawned at every level.

Angel of Mercy/Angel of Cowardice sounds great. Vengeance is interesting, but maybe too easy... (Whoa, a chaingun on level 12 + triggerhappy and finnese !) Angel of Love idea is also good.
I don't like Angel of Apprentice and Pain idea.

Regarding the "keys" request:Can't players simply blow up the wall of the locked room with their rocket launcher...?I mean,why search a key for a locked door while you can simply nuke it?

It's hardly passable. Maybe:

Angel of Massacre
- Always in Aggressive mode(could be cautious. Or maybe even without restriction)
- Enemies sometimes attack each other when the player's around(could be, or not)
- Lot more enemies are generated
- Lot more weapons, armor, ammo, meds, and powerups are generated

Something like Arcade mode.)) All of that could result in no inventory space problems, no thoughts about what to pick, and what to leave, no weapon that is your primary(every weapon could be primary if you ran out of ammo for your current weapon and there's a lot of ammo for any other weapon. So no specified trait path at the beggining of the game, you pick traits that are useful in your current situation, if you are currently using shotguns, you pick Reloader, then you ran out of shells, you pick Chaingun, and on next levelup you pick Eagle Eye, then again, you ran out of 10mm, but you found lots of shells and Double Shotty, on next levelup you pick Reloader*2). Ammo, weapons, meds, and armor are just waste materials, you don't bother about them because there's a lot of them all around. And, of course, you need to constantly use all your arsenal, so for what lots of monsters are generated. Of course that all would result as much bigger exp flow, but that could be fun to have all-in-one marine at dlvl 20.)

Yeah, except that it doesn't really have a very good name. Who would ever think the High Lord in Heavens would have a lackey named Angel of Massacre with him?

Angel of War would be a loads better, IMO. While we're there, we could also have Angel of Death, Angel of Famine, and Angel of Pestilence.

Angel of Carnage

Starts with standard Shotgun
Can only equip Shotguns/Combats/Double Shotguns
More shells are spawned in lower levels
Perhaps a guaranteed Advanced Combat Shotgun and Double Shotgun at certain level landmarks

Also, on the topic of shotguns...Is Reloader supposed to be useless for shotguns once you get Shottyman? If you are focusing on shotguns, it kinda makes Shottyman a 3 point trait. What about either tying Shottyman into Hellrunner (2)? Alternatively, what about making Reloader reduce the distance the game considers your targets at for rolling shotgun damage by 1 square/level?

Merging would be futile - it would be much to hard to find anything in the topic, plus there are several other topics about challenges. I have a better idea - I'll make a new sticky about challenge modes in a second, then we'll move all current proposals from existing topics (tons of work so I count on your help here ;P) and after we have everything in one place than I can make the pool.

PS. If you are willing to help with gathering data for new topic, please start with topics other than the old one first, and THEN go for pages 6-10 of the first topic (I'll go for pages 1-5). Oh, and I'll remove the poll from this one.
