-- General ---------------------------------------------------

4 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
 2 of those were killed.

 2 souls destroyed the Mastermind...
2 killed the bitch and survived.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Speedruns are still here and the foruma hasn't changed - Run to Chainsaw, hit level 2 off of bruiser #1, level 3 off of Bruiser #2. Level 4 (maybe 5 too from Cybie?) and dash to Spider. Used a homing phase on level 23. Didn't bother to put on armor or boots. Had to use a large medkit for Spider and at least one earlier.

Now if only I could find the time to sit down and play a serious game...

Fun!

I would love too!
Someone link me to the software to install on my Win7 laptop and a place to post a vid...or maybe I'll just send it Game Hunter to share on his YouTube channel.

Also some notes for would-be speedrunners:
Console version only since Graphics = delay
Edit config file to skip intro and disable bloodslides
Maybe Autoname and Autotrait since I think the trait screen time may count towards game time.

Use DOS Recorcer, guys.

Maybe some tutorial should be stickied here somewhere? I'm sure it's easy to figure out, but just having such a thing would perhaps motivate people to record more of their runs.

People would get bored watching mine =) .

It would be mostly shotting in the darkness and collecting every shell once the level is cleared :P .

Yes please! I love watching other people play. It always gives me all sorts of good ideas.

The best way would be built-in demos recorder. So you could playback demos with sound. I don't know if it's hard to make, but surely it would be so awesome..
Game could record every time but you could choose wheter to keep demo or delete it, when you watch mortem.

Some level skip/playback speed manipulation would be nice..
Anyone knows how hard it would be to accomplish? Surely it would be an answer to request of many players who wants to see demos. Especially demos of those 'impossible' achievements by DoomRL most skilled players.
But yea, let's use DosRecorder for now!

Another good way to record (and actually have it as "normal" video) is Camstudio.

I'm not 100% sure on the details RE: sounds, however it should be more than possible.

Demos are nice, but require the game being there, a Youtube video is...just that! (Well that's my 2c anyway)

Exactly... a Youtube video is a Youtube video. A slow-loading Flash video with de-synched sound on a site that will bury you in advertisements.

Whereas a demo for the game I hope everyone on this forum has would be smooth and probably small and when you're done watching it the game is right there.

I think you are underestimating the inherent laziness of the human race - a youtube link is something you click and watch.
A demo is something you need download, possibly extract, put into a correct folder, run the game and launch.

It may not be much, but it's a psychological barrier that can mean the difference between watching it and thinking "I'll get to it later." never to return to it. Hell, this happens to me even with youtube links, so demos would have even less chance =)

That said, making it possible to record demos would be a great feature. Don't let this naysaing make you think that I wouldn't appreciate it.

Nah, you just need to download DOS recorder and put it into folder of choice. After that configure system to automatically open *.dm2 files with player distributed together with recorder ...

Ehh, maybe I will spare some time in the evening and create a guide :] .

Nobody was saying it was hard. It's just a lot more effort than clicking a single link.

Please do, actually :)

What's simple and obvious to the experienced can still be intimidating to noobies. I'd like to watch DoomRL demos one way or another but I've never used DosRecorder.

I can't help the loading issue but if you are running firefox i can at least take care of the ad issue with this addon
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock_lite/

There are versions for other browsers but you would need to google around for them...
