Bug Reports / [Fixed][0.9.9.6] Vampyre trait gives 202% health
« on: February 29, 2012, 12:47 »
I'm not sure what causes it, since it doesn't go up to 202 everytime, but it happens from time to time.

77
That's all there is to it. Have a look at the screenshot.

Few days ago I resumed playing Dwarf Fortress (I stopped when I discovered DoomRL =) and I thought I'd ask if there are people interested in trying a succession fort. I have never tried that myself, and I'm not very advanced player (my current fort is the first one where I managed to get a solid magma-based steelworks). But I guess being unexperienced isn't such a big problem, since DF is always *fun* anyway...

So, is there anybody who would play?

Edit:

Year - Player - Dwarf
1 - RSO - Erib Tunnêcik, expedition leader
2 - Klear - Klearol Rulolon, chronicler
3 - RSO - Kulet Duradushrir, sheriff
4 - Matt_S - unknown
5 - Kamikaze14 - ?
6 - ? - ?

Potential players:
Deathwind, Kashi, raekuul, Matt_S

0.9.9.5 / [U|AoB|89%|5|YASD] Death of a brute
« on: February 01, 2012, 03:44 »
"Get it together, marine! You are a brute! You are a berserker! Maybe you're not a badass yes, but you will be soon. Those bastards hit hard, but so do you and your chainsaw is hungry, it didn't leave anybody alive in the first five floors and something tells me that this baby could chew its way through hell itself! Well... yeah, you left a few of those stupid monsters alive when you found your baby, but that's just because you hate lava. Hate it! HATE! I'm not afraid of no monsters, but if they hide behind lava, I'm not going after them barefoot.

OK, focus. I'm bleeding all over, almost dead. Down to my last medpack, but I should save it for later. No monsters around and there is a switch nearby. It could be a medical station. Hell, I'd give anything for it to be a medical station! As long as it doesn't flood me with fucking lava, I'll be alright. Here goes!

More demons? More playmates all around me?! How is that possible? Eat chainsaw you bastards! Yeah! Just stand there and take it! YEAH! I'm a motherfucking killing machine! I need to taste your BLOOD! ... Wait, is that you, voice of reason? I thought I'd long since drowned you in boiling innards and blood. What, the medkit? Should I take it, I feel quite invulnerable without it, but... I guess you kept me alive through five floors. It's just a little too crowded with all these monsters still standing stupid around us. I guess you're right. I'll just lean here against this switch to easier open the medkit... Son of a bitch! Argh! I'm on fire! ARRGHHH!!! I'M ON PLASMA!!! ARRRGHHHH!!!"

So... yeah... I tried to use a medpack using "u" while standing on a "summon monsters" lever. I should be pissed, but it was hilarious.

Requests For Features / Keyboard unresponsive during transitions
« on: January 31, 2012, 07:29 »
Would it be possible to make it that the game doesn't accept input from keyboard while the screens are changing with the wipe effect?

It usually leads to me skipping name and sometimes choosing ironman as starting trait. (yes, I'm usually very eager to start a new game)

Recently I accidentally selected ironman in the middle of the game (which lead to no dodgemaster when facing Cybie and getting owned, I think).

Discussion / Version Change?
« on: January 30, 2012, 08:39 »
Since I'm still kinda new to DoomRL, I haven't really been around any version changes. I started playing in .994, but only a little and I really started to play regularly with .995, so I simply started over. It was indeed a matter of a few playthroughs to get all I had achieved before plus a lot I thought impossible for me.

So anyway, what (usually) happens when new version comes? Do you have to discard your player file and start over? Is it possible to keep the old badges/medals/discovered assemblies and keep playing with the new version? Will you only lose stuff which is changed in the new version (new badge requirements, new mod combinations for assemblies) or do you keep your badges even if the condition change to be more difficult?

I noticed a lot of people here had to regain all their badges, is that optional, forced, or just good practice? (so it's easier to find bugs?)

While I'm at it, how often do new versions come on average?

Thanks...

Requests For Features / Mods able to modify items in inventory
« on: January 27, 2012, 05:44 »
I hate it when I have to equip the armor/weapon I want to modify first (realistically, you'd probably want to unequip whatever you are modifying, btw), so I though that maybe the mod options could ask [abwi], the last one being inventory, which would allow you to choose appropriate item in the inventory.

84
I just finished AoD on first try (BTW, I had no idea enemies respawn there) and cleared out the Spider's Lair. I got the nuclear plasma (I really love that gun lately), but before I left, one of the spiders respawned (the lucky one - I ran out of rockets at that point)

The awards section of the mortem doesn't credit me with Arachno Silver Badge, and it says that I didn't complete a single special level.

I do have the Arachno Silver Badge, though, only the mortem didn't display it.

Discussion / Good build for AoI?
« on: January 21, 2012, 08:48 »
So.. I guess the title says it all. What build would you recommend for AoI? I'm trying to get all the missing bronze/silver badges, but so far I had no luck with Impatience.

It might be because I just managed a full win in AoMC UV (two invulnerability globes on level 23? What am I supposed to do with the lava element?) so it might be just that I'm much less careful now when playing on HNTR.

Bug Reports / [0.9.9.5] Teleporting with int2
« on: January 21, 2012, 06:36 »
I just noticed a minor graphical issue - when teleporting with Int2, while the teleporter animation is running, you can see the place where you are teleporting marked with a pink asterisk, as if an invisible enemy was standing there. No big deal (though it scared me quite a little)

Bug Reports / [0.9.9.5 Win7] Badge lost
« on: January 19, 2012, 15:41 »
I'm not sure how it happened, but earlier today I earned my Lightfoot Silver Badge. Then I had other things to do, and when I ran DoomRL again a few hours later, my new silver badge was gone, but the game says I have a full win on Angel of Light Travel. Furthermore, the items screen correctly displays the berserker armor I found for the first time (how the hell do you wear that thing?) and my second Cybie Head I got on that run.

The mortem is also present.

Oh, and after the run, the badge was displayed for sure. I remember checking there to see that I only need one more silver to get a new rank.

Lightfoot Bronze is displayed correctly, but I might have gotten it earlier. Edit, yeah, I got bronze badge in the previous run, before I realized I need a melee build.

88
I think this might be another effect of the "effect shown before cause" bug, but I just killed Cybie with a BFG and the blast was briefly visible upon loading of the next level. I don't think it hurt anybody (damn), so it's likely just a graphic glitch.

--------------------------------------------------------------

I wanted to advance both of my ranks, so I tried for a 100% kill HMP game with a pistol build. Some highlights are: In hell's armory I assembled my first speedloader pistol, since I remembered the schematics from .994. Then I killed the Shambler and reaped the rewards - schematics for speedloader pistol! Well, that sucked.
You may have noticed that went for 100% kills and yet ended up with 77% - that is because I knew I needed just one more medal to get the Heroic Silver Badge, so I decided to go for the explorer medal. I stupidly peeked into every special level and usually left immediately, though I'm not sure I'd manage to finish the game without the ubercharge I got in the mortuary (with homing phase device, mortuary can be a blessing).
In any case - I did kill 100% monsters in random levels and in the levels I wanted to clear, so I'm kinda sad, especially since the last few levels were very tough and would have been much easier if I just went down the stairs ASAP like I should have.

When I reached Dis, I had around 20% health and no healthpacks. Thank god for that nuclear plasma rifle. The little spiders sent you this, you bitch! See you in hell!

Requests For Features / Stairs = elevator?
« on: January 14, 2012, 01:56 »
I just realized that it's weird that there are stairs between levels, since Doom had either elevators or teleporters. How about calling the stairs elevator for flavour reasons?
