I prefer to clear the wall using mostly shotguns, since I hate the thought of wasting a mod on the rocket launcher, which is about to be replaced by the missile launcher.

Indeed. I'm pretty methodical about it. I'll blow an ideal corner-shooting area out of the wall with the rocket launcher. And an alternate one I can fall back to if I get swarmed.

The "wasted" EE does suck a little in the early game, but it makes all the rockets hit straight in the late game, so there's sort of a balance.

And then you find a Revenant Launcher.

300 shells is weak. I regularly carry 560 or more (that's 8 stacks with the backpack).

SO far I expect the best dedicated shotgun build with the scout is Int-Int-Rel-Rel-SM-HR-HR-DM-Fin-either into MSH or WK, depending of mods abundance. Tactical shotgun is a must I guess.

Granted, Int->Int first thing certainly helps survivability, but I usually prefer Rel->Rel. Double-reloader turns the regular shotgun into a tool that allows you to corner shoot any enemy in the game indefinitely. Rel->Rel->SM also makes Hell's Arena easier than Int 2, in my opinion.

Ah, and about shells—if you have the chance to archvile-farm sergeants safely, do it.

Yeah, spawning near a pack of enemies is common enough that you always want to have a phase handy. I also find it beneficial to have a shotgun out before you take the stairs to a regular level. The spread will usually allow you to attack most of the pack at once.

You always get several free turns at the beginning of the level. What you decide to do with those turns is very important. Usually, you want to play to your strengths. If you have a really good firing speed but poor movement speed, then you'll want to light them up immediately. In the opposite case, you'll probably want to run away.

I didn't know you could turn off running early. I don't think that's too useful. I guess you could wait until an enemy fires, then turn it off and fire yourself without the accuracy hit. I guess you turn it off once you find good cover. That's pretty useful.

Anyone have any idea about the napalm launcher? I shot it against a nearby wall on JC's level to create a pool of lava, walked on it and tried to reload, but the game wouldn't let me.

Specifically, the silver daredevil badge (awarded for completing angel of confidence). The mortem says I completed it, the high score screen says I completed it, the game counted as a standard win, but the badge screen says I didn't. I nuked the mastermind but died to JC.

Edit: I just realized that those screens may merely be saying that I attempted the challenge. In that case, though, isn't it a bit counter-intuitive that the game counted as a standard win? It is confusing to me that I can net a standard win without getting the badge.

By the way, I couldn't reload the napalm launcher on that level. Intended behavior?

2) MAc allows you to actually carry more...stuff, also allows you to carry spare weapons, mods and even a shotgun with ammo, (If you so choose) since you don't really need more than two stacks of 10mm/cells.

In the last cateye rapid fire build I did, I carried a combat shotgun, BFG, missile launcher, chaingun, and plasma rifle, with enough shells to shoot to my heart's content. I had pretty sizable stacks of 9mm and plasma. With a bit of management, I never came close to running out of either ammo type. 9mm on weaker enemies, rockets + plasma on harder. I agree, though- if you want to spam plasma, MAC is the way to go.

Rapid fire builds are actually best-suited to do just that. You're guaranteed to get one salvo off before retaliation; formers and imps are guaranteed kills with a vanilla chaingun once you have EE and SoB (barring armors, of course). (Once you tag an enemy it will head straight for you without delay, so it's not like it's a long wait.)

Doorways are pretty inferior to proper cover (unless of course your enemy is along the wall). With int, you should be able to lure the enemy to an advantageous spot. So basically: in close quarters, game intuition. Long-range, game cateye. Really, you shouldn't ever get hit unless you get surrounded.

Int/cateye is superior in every way to ammochain, in my opinion. Not only is ammochain basically pointless unless you're doing AoLT, but it blocks all the best traits.

Ironically, this was probably my easiest run ever. I decided to do a cateye/int build in order to take as little damage as possible. It worked quite well. I even got the untouchable badge.

This time, I got a lot of use out of the missile launcher, which was cool. I got pretty lucky with mod packs; once I assembled powered red armor (I learned the assembly this game!) the game was pretty much a breeze.

Yeah.. it's all about speed. I just had a game where I could corner shoot it around a single pillar with impunity. 0.46 movement, 0.66 firing. Zerking w/ heavy armor is pretty effective too.

That was some run. My strategy was to obtain the nuclear plasma rifle from the spider's lair, thereby clearing up most of my inventory spots for non-ammunition.

The early game was a breeze. I built up slowly to a rapid fire build with the occasional nicety such as finesse. My approach here was to use both a chaingun and a shotgun, scavenging whatever ammo was available each level. This worked well, since a lot of times a level will be heavy on one ammo type or the other, allowing you to burn whichever has excess. My basic inventory setup was two slots for primary ammo, one for backup ammo, one med-pack, and one phase.

Things got a bit rough when I entered the spider's lair. I (fortunately!) ditched the phase for another med-pack before I went in. Got some bad luck getting double-teamed and had to burn through both of them early. Then I played really conservatively and somehow managed to pull out a victory with — get this — 2 shells and 2 bullets left. My reward was the nuclear plasma rifle!

A couple levels later, however, tragedy once again struck with the cyberdemon..

My strategy was going really well, keeping out of his range with my excellent speed and using cateye to get potshots off on him, but eventually, I had to 'turn around' so I could keep kiting him. I learned the hard way that there is no surefire way to do this; the pillars usually don't last long enough to do it with impunity. At this point, I had no med-packs and could only take 2 rockets to the face. A third one would kill me. Wouldn't you know, I did take those 2 rockets to the face. Fortunately, I took no more, and he went down while I had 8% hp.

Fortunately, there weren't any enemies in sight of where I spawned on the next level! And there was an invulnerability nearby! From this point on, I kept improving my build, and I found the mod that adds 2 extra shots to a rapid fire weapon. That was pretty cool.

With the 20% speed boost from AoLT, my tac boots/armor, scout class, and a point in hell runner, I had a ridiculous 0.46 movement speed. I could perpetually corner shoot the mastermind with impunity with no threat of retaliation, so that was rad. :)
